Do-It-Yourself. www.sailrite.com Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit a spinnaker launching bag is a modified duffle bag designed to house the spinnaker and launch it directly from the bag. The hinged lid on the bag keeps the spinnaker secure inside the bag when hanging from the forestay, bow pulpit, or shroud but will easily release the chute without twists when the halyard is raised. MaTeRIaLS LIST: KIT #320400 (100-300 SqFt.) #320410 (300-700 SqFt.) #320420 (700-1000 SqFt.) #320430 (1000+ SqFt.) 4 OZ. nylon FLaG CLOTh 2 YD 2 YD 3 YD 4 YD V-69 WhITe ThReaD BOBBIn 2 2 2 2 3/16" ShOCK CORD 4 FT 4 FT 5 FT 6 FT 12" STaInLeSS STeeL hoop 1 16" STaInLeSS STeeL hoop 1 20" STaInLeSS STeeL hoop 1 24" STaInLeSS STeeL hoop 1 #1 Snap piston 2 2 2 #2 Snap piston 2 1" nylon WeBBInG #1100 2 FT 2 FT 2 FT 2 FT hand SeWInG needle #16 1 1 1 1 5-pLY WaXeD TWIne BOBBIn 1 1 1 1 SeaMSTICK BaSTInG Tape 1 1 1 1 SaILRITe LOGO 1 1 1 1 InSTRUCTIOnS 1 1 1 1 103807*1 Sailrite Enterprises, Inc. 260.244.4647 800.348.2769 www.sailrite.com

Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit 2 1. Pattern KIT Finished diameter pattern diameter #320400 12" 15" #320410 16" 19" #320420 20" 23" #320430 24" 27" Circumference + 1-1/2" 1-1/2" Top 60" 1-1/2" Barrel 54-1/2" Bottom Lid Rim 5-1/2" Fabric Length 1.1 Pattern Top and Bottom Circles 1. Refer to the chart above to determine the appropriate pattern diameter for the kit purchased. Using a compass, mark two circles equal to this pattern diameter measurement (A). 2. Measure and mark a line on the circle 1-1/2 inches inside the edge (B). This marked side is now the OUT side. 3. Cut along the outer circle using a hotknife or soldering iron. 1.2 Pattern Lid Rim 1. Mark a rectangle that is 5-1/2 inches wide and the entire length of the fabric (C). 2. Cut out the lid pattern from the fabric using a hotknife. 1.3 Pattern Barrel 1. Determine the length of the barrel by finding the circumference of the marked inner circle on the circle pattern and adding 1-1/2 inches (Length = (Diameter x 3.14) + 1-1/2 inches). 2. Mark a rectangle using the Length measurement and the entire width of the fabric (D). 3. Cut out the barrel pattern from the fabric using a hotknife.

Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit 3 2. Assemble Bottom Circumference + 1-1/2" 54-1/2" 2" 2.1 Attach the Bottom Circle Sew This Direction 1. Align the raw edges of one circle pattern with the length edge (circumference + 1-1/2 inches) of the barrel pattern. The center of the circle should be approximately 2 inches in from the barrel width edge (A). 2. Sew a row of straight stitches around the circle directly over the 1-1/2 inch line to connect the bottom circle with the barrel. Stop approximately 2 inches from the starting point. Keep the edge of the circle even with the bottom edge of the barrel when sewing. Start 2.2 Build the Barrel 1. Match the edges of the barrel fabric together to complete the cylinder. 2. Sew a row of straight stitches 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch from the edge, working from the top to the bottom (B). 3. Finish sewing all around the circumference of the end piece (C). 2012 Sailrite Enterprises, Inc. 260.244.4647 800.348.2769 www.sailrite.com

Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit 4 3. Assemble Top 2-1/2" 3.1 Insert Metal Hoop 1. pack the spinnaker tightly in the bag. 2. Slide the metal hoop over the top of the bag to the intended height and mark the line (A). 3. Measure and mark a line 2-1/2 inches above the hoop line. Cut along this line to remove the extra fabric (B). 4. Bring the hoop in line with its mark and fold a hem down over the hoop (C). 5. Sew a row of straight stitches around the top (with the hoop inside the hem) 1/4 inch from the raw edge (D). 3.2 Attach Webbing 1. Turn the bag right side out. 2. Cut two 8 inch strips of webbing. 3. Take one strip of webbing and fold in half to make a loop. position the webbing flush with the bottom edge of the barrel, directly over the side seam, and loop side down. 4. Sew in place with a Box-X stitch (E). Sew a box first and then sew the diagonals, reinforcing the top and bottom stitch lines. 5. Repeat with the other webbing strip, sewing it at the top of the bag's side seam loop side up (F). 6. attach snap pistons to the loops by tightening the self-tapping screws at the base of the snap through the webbing (G). position snap pistons so the clip openings face away from the bag.

Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit 5 4. Assemble Lid 1-1/2" 4.1 Sew Lid 1. Gather the second circle pattern and the lid rim pattern. 2. Measure and mark a line 3 inches inside the long edge of the lid pattern. 3. Fold the raw edge to the marked 3 inch line and baste in place to make a 1-1/2 inch hem. 4. Sew a row of straight stitches just beside the raw edge to create a sleeve (A). Reverse (bar tack) over the stitch ends to lock thread in place. 2" Sew This Direction 5. attach the lid rim, finished side up, to the circle in the same manner as the bottom circle (B). Sew along the inner circle in a careful, counter-clockwise direction stopping approximately 2 inches from the starting point. Measure how much fabric will close the circle and remove the excess. Finish sewing the circular top. 6. Join the ends of the rectangle together and sew a seam stopping at the 1-1/2 inch hem (C). 3/4" 4.2 Insert Shock Cord 1. Cut a length of shock cord equal to approximately 85% the circumference of the bag. 2. Work the cord through the sleeve formed on the inside of the lid circle by the 1-1/2 inch hem (D). 3. Overlap the 2 cord ends by 3/4 inch (E) and sew together using a needle and doubled length of sail twine. penetrate both cords at one end of the overlap and wrap around both cords several times. penetrate both cords again at the opposite end of the overlap, and run the needle through the middle of the cord to secure. 4. Tuck the shock cord into its sleeve and sew the pocket shut. Be careful not to sew through the shock cord.

Spinnaker Launching Bag Kit 6 4.3 Attach Lid 1. Turn the lid right side out. 2. Sew the lid to the barrel near the side seam using a 1 inch square box-x stitch (F). Take care to not sew through the shock cord inside the lid hem. 5.1 Attach Sailrite Logo Patch 5. Sailrite Logo 1. Smooth the adhesive backed Sailrite logo in place on the outside of the bag. 2. Run a row of stitches around the logo to secure in place.
