Name: Perid: Date: Genealgy Prject 7 th Grade Scial Studies The students will spend the next few weeks researching their families genealgy (family tree). Last year in the 6 th grade, students made a family tree as part f their autbigraphy prject. This year, the main gals are t expand the family tree t include mre distant ancestrs, t research the rigins f the family surname, and t learn abut the ancient cultures f ur ancestrs. The gal is t take last year s prject t the next level. IMPORTANT NOTES: If students chse t make their family tree n the Internet, students must NEVER enter their wn persnal infrmatin n any website (real name, birthday, hme lcatin, etc.) Use a nickname r pseudnym. Fr sme peple genealgy is a tuchy subject. The pint f this prject is t learn abut ur past, nt t pry int family secrets (adptin, divrce, suicide, crimes, etc.) This is intended t be a psitive experience. Students can pick and chse which family members t research. In the case f a divrce r adptin, students can research step /adptive parents r bilgical parents r all parents. Students frm sme Asian cuntries have traditinally had prblems adapting Asian naming systems (particularly the system used in India) t the system used by Eurpean descendents, s feel free t imprvise. Mst African American students have Eurpean last names due t the slave trade. Thse students can fcus n a cuntry r regin in Africa rather than Eurpe fr My Ancient Ancestrs if they chse. Yu can make a family tree n paper, in bk frm, a pster, a scrll, r n the Internet (print it ut fr the final prject). Fr the first cuple weeks, we will gather research infrmatin in a ntebk. The cntent f each part will cnsist f 20% f yur final prject grade. The remaining 20% will be graded n neatness, creativity, visuals such as phts, and verall lk f the finished prject.
