Horizon (Ορίζοντας) 2020 H2020 is the main R&I funding instrument of the EU. Nearly 80B for R&I the most ambitious R&I programme at the moment worldwide Main 3 Pillars: Excellent Science Industrial Leadership Societal Challenges

H2020 & Industrial Modernisation Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT) a dedicated budget for projects related to KETs KETs: Micro and nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology, Industrial biotechnology, Advanced materials, Photonics Advanced manufacturing technologies.

Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT) rebalancing of research, development, and innovation (RD&I) support towards closer-to-the-market projects (including pilot manufacturing lines and demonstrators); priority for cross-cutting KETs projects (30% of the KETs budget); industry-oriented selection criteria to increase participation along value chains H2020 & Industrial Modernisation (business and exploitation plans, commitment to first manufacturing, introduction of Technology Readiness Levels in topics, etc).

H2020 Public Private Partnerships Expected to leverage more than 6 billion of public investments. Based on multiyear roadmaps for research and innovation activities with major input coming from industry. The PPPs in the "Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing, and Biotechnology" part of Horizon 2020 are: Factories of the Future (FoF) Sustainable Process Industry (SPIRE)

Tools for synergies between RIS3 & H2020 The Greek experience NCPs were officially involved in some regions only Organised by regional authorities At the level of "Entrepreneurial Discovery" Workshops with local stakeholders were: H2020 and relevant thematic priorities presented Active role in assisting groups of SMEs together with researchers build up project ideas & link them with H2020 topics

We have initiated this dialogue, involving regional authorities Organised 2 workshops on Agro-food in two major cities in Greece (2 different regions) Tools for synergies between RIS3 & H2020 Involved SMEs, Academia, Industry Associations & Chambers of Commerce Involved reps from ministries to describe instruments funded by ERDF, CAP Presented H2020 opportunities in SC2 Organised networking/brainstorming session to build project ideas for regional/national/european projects.

This is not good enough!

The role of NMP TeAm Have identified 2 key issues: There is a need for stronger synergy between RIS3 & H2020 Lack of governance mechanisms and strategic business and policy intelligence that relate / complement policy instruments across governance levels, across borders, and across policy domains and ministries. Lack of concrete examples and guidance to proposers on how to design and describe the synergies in their proposals and their projects

How to tackle the policy issue Need to involve the NCPs at regional level To assist national and regional authorities in the creation of a framework To coordinate actions between the H2020 and ESIF funding instruments.

How to tackle the policy issue NMP TeAm will design a set of guidelines A set of best practices from the partners' regions and from other regions in the EU on: how NMP NCPs can collaborate with regional and national authorities on H2020 and ESIF synergies for various processes within the RIS3 development and provide information, assistance and advice concerning the H2020 part. Starting point: Analysis of Smart Specialisation Strategies in Nanotechnologies, Advanced Manufacturing and Process Technologies

How to tackle the implementation issue We will create a set of guidelines that will assist proposers (coordinators) and their consortia foster an optimal combination of H2020 and ESIF funding for their projects How to clearly reflect this information on their proposals. Information will be adjusted to address the H2020 NMBP programme and the related PPPs and cppps. The guidelines will be augmented with a set of good practices from current and future projects and will be renewed annually.

Outreach Identify (using EYE@RIS3) regions with NMBP related priorities. Establish links with regional stakeholders With assistance from NCP Promote tools of project (Guidelines, best practices) Design common activities (under consideration) Information and exchange workshops Trainings Etc.
