keraflex 3 The System Variants With keraflex, BSW has developed a modular paving system that makes it much easier to refurbish balconies. keraflex offers two different system variants: keraflex MC and keraflex EL. All systems can be quickly laid on the old, damaged surface once the balcony has been suitably prepared/sealed. This avoids cost-intensive procedures and minimises the time involved in refurbishment. Furthermore, there is a wide range of colours available for designing your terrace or balcony. keraflex EL keraflex EL Balcony and Terrace Tile is made of synthetic rubber with an EPDM rubber top layer. keraflex EL The System Structure keraflex EL and keraflex MC Balcony and Terrace Tiles are made of natural and synthetic rubber (EPDM). They are uniquely pleasant to walk on. The tiles are as soft as a forest floor, each step sinking in slightly. Just go barefoot on keraflex EL and relax. The material is pleasantly footwarm. The tiles are permeable to water thus the surface dries quickly after a downpour. In addition, the wear layer possesses outstanding slip-resistant properties. Individual Tile Size 1,000 x 500 x 30 mm per tile, dummy joint in the centre of the tile Dimensional Tolerances length/width ±1%, thickness ±2 mm Single-tile keraflex EL are offered with dummy joint in the centre of the tile. Top Side PUR-bonded rubber fibres Underside PU-bonded rubber fibres, fitted with drainage grooves Edges with dowel holes (supplied with dowels for connecting the tiles to each other) Weight approx. 24 kg/m² Close up of keraflex EL: underside with drainage channels. * Note regarding freshly laid tiles: When keraflex EL tiles have just been laid, there may be slight temporary wax colouring which will disappear as they weather. The wax is used in the manufacturing process and once it has disappeared, the true colours will come through in their full intensity. The lightfastness of coloured keraflex tiles is due to special manufacturing process and is only available from BSW. We only use selected and certified materials during the manufacturing process. Nevertheless, the colours/particle size distribution may vary slightly due to the nature of the manual manufacturing process. Therefore, we recommend the simultaneous take-up of various pallets. Please feel free to contact our friendly customer consultants, if you require exceptionally high UV resistance.

keraflex MC / EL Installation Instructions Connecting the Tiles to Each Other keraflex EL and MC Balcony and Terrace Tiles can be joined to one another by means of dowels, and glued if required. In the majority of cases dowels will be sufficient, reducing the time needed for installation. The tiles must be glued one by one to the bound sub-base. This prevents deliberate levering out and displacement of the tiles. Laying the Tiles You should begin laying the tiles in the corner bordered by the house wall. First lay a row of tiles from this corner to the opposite end, connecting them with dowels and gluing if necessary. Now lay the second row of tiles offset, this means starting with a half tile (precut half tiles are available on request). Proceed as stated. When connecting with dowels then first connect together the tiles of the second row, and then connect them to the first row. Proceed as stated. Dowels to connect the tiles. Dowels can be used to fix the tiles to each other. Laying Edge to Edge As you lay the tiles make sure that they are perfectly aligned. There should be as little space as possible between the tiles, so it is recommended that you apply strong horizontal pressure as you position each tile. This will prevent subsequent gaps from developing, as the material may shrink over time. Anti-Stumble Edging When surrounding a tiled area with Regupol Anti-Stumble Edges, they must be glued to the tiles. This gives added strength. The installation of anti-stumble edging is identical to that of tiles. Continued on the next page. Anti-stumble edges for barrier-free building

keraflex MC / EL 9 Installation Instructions Cutting the Tiles Cut the tiles using a good pendulum jigsaw (coarse wood saw blade or wave blade) or carpet knife along a steel edge. This also applies to fittings to banister feet, drainage points, other floor surfaces, etc. Cut the tiles with a commercially available carpet knife along a steel edge. Gluing to a Bound Sub-Base The adhesive required for gluing the tiles to a bound sub-base is available at BSW. It is a two-component PU adhesive. The tiles should be glued to the bound sub-base at the nine glue spots on the underside of the tile. You must ensure that the base is dry and clean, the outside temperature should be at least 5 ºC. Adhesive consumption: approx. 1 kg/m 2, subject to the base course. Useful Tips When laying on an unbound sub-base, the tiles can be glued together using a single-component PU mastic besides connecting with dowels. The process can be carried out between outside temperatures of +5 and +35 ºC. One cartridge is sufficient for approx. 4 m 2. The bead diameter of the mastic adhesive should be 5 7 mm. When the tiles have just been laid, there may be slight temporary wax colouring, which will disappear as they weather. The wax is used in the manufacturing process and once it has disappeared the true colours will come through in their full intensity. keraflex MC / EL Cleaning Recommendations Removal of Normal Soiling Slightly soiled surfaces can be cleaned initially with a broom. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the pores of the flooring. Remove any stubborn dirt by wiping the surface with a damp, lint-free cloth. Add an appropriate quantity of commercially available ph-neutral cleaning agent for flagstones and ceramic floor tiles to warm water. Wipe off with clear water. Removal of Strong Soiling Proceed as described above for severely soiled surfaces, without wiping off with clear water. Let the water with cleaning agent soak in for about 10 to 20 minutes. Then clean the whole surface using a scrubbing brush to loosen the dirt in the pores. Now wash the floor with clear water to remove the loosened dirt. Wet-vacuuming is ideal for this step. Severely soiled surfaces can also be treated with a high-pressure cleaner. Here it is important to ensure that the maximum pressure does not exceed 40 bar, while holding the nozzle at least 20 cm away from the surface. Removal of Algae and Moss Planters, etc., should not always be left in one place but moved around from time to time in order to avoid dirt rims, discolouring and the formation of algae and moss. Use commercially available cleaners to remove algae and moss. Proceed as for normal cleaning. Treat severe algae and moss accumulation by increasing the mixing ratio as recommended by the manufacturer. Once the concentrated solution has soaked in, you can treat the surface with a scrubbing brush. Unsuitable Cleaning Agents and Equipment All cleaning agents that leave a residue are unsuitable; this includes wax, solvents (acetone, nail polish remover), nitrocellulose thinners, bleach, scouring powder. Unsuitable cleaning equipment includes sand, steel wool, sandpaper, wire brushes, etc. When using special cleaners, please also comply with the manufacturer s instructions. Removal of Special Soiling Chewing Gum special chewing gum remover or icing spray Emulsion and Gloss Paint commercially available paint remover Rust rust neutralising agent Apply all of these special cleaners with great care.
