Olivia s Pyjamas Bag Pattern can be expanded to any size to fit the intended contents. Designed by Christine Mitchell. Read instructions carefully before starting the project. Materials: 45cm main fabric (I used a linen cotton blend) 45cm lining fabric Two small pieces of appliqué fabric for tree tops Two small pieces of fusible web to back the tree tops 1.8mt cord for draw strings Optional Perle cotton for tassel ends on draw strings Threads for machine embroidery and construction Tear-a-way stabiliser for embroidery Tools required: Brother embroidery and sewing machine The free embroidery design download with this pattern J foot, buttonhole foot and the embroidery foot for your machine Fabric marking pen, scissors, measuring tape and pins Optional cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter

Embroidery Design: Preparation and Cutting: 1. Cut 2 x 17 ¾ high x 15 ¾ in wide (45 x 40cm) from bag fabric, repeat for contrast lining. Or substitute your measurements to make another size. 2. Fold main fabric in half length, place pattern on top and cut top shaping. 1. Stitch small tree top position 2. Stitch down small tree fabric 3. Stitch large tree top position 4. Stitch down large tree 5. Tree trunks 6. Grass 7. Flower petals 8. Flower centres There are three embroidery sizes; Large: 143.2mm high 148.4mm wide Medium: 110.0mm high 114.0mm wide Small: 92.1mm high 95.0mm wide 3. Repeat for the lining. 4. Using the pattern as a guide, place a small mark with fabric pen at the start of the buttonholes (not on the lining). 5. Cut 4 x 1 x 15 (3 x 4cm) out of scrap fabric to use as stabiliser behind the buttonholes. Embroidering the Design: 1. Load the free embroidery design to your embroidery machine (I used the large). Free download included at the end of the instructions. 2. If you would like to include a name and pyjamas bag add now using the fonts on your machine. If your machine will not allow, add as a separate embroidery when you have finished this embroidery. 3. Hoop the embroidery frame with a good embroidery tear-a-way.

4. Position fabric and attach to the stabiliser with a basting stitch, or if there is a preferred hoop with the stabiliser. 5. Choose thread colours to compliment your fabrics. 6. Iron fusible web to the back of the applique fabric used for the two trees, cool and remove paper. 9. Trim excess fabric from around tree leaving about 1/8 (3mm). 7. Even though your machine will show four different colours to embroider the raw edge appliqué trees, just use the colour you are using to stitch the tree tops. The different colours are so the machine will stop, allowing you to trim the appliqué fabric from around the trees before stitching the next stage. 8. The first stitching shows the placement for the small tree, after stitching cover with the small tree fabric, making sure it extends beyond the stitch line. Stitch the second stitching. 10. The third stitching will be the placement line for the large tree, and the fourth will be the stitch down. Trim as before.

11. Continue stitching the tree trunks and flowers. 8. Clip and notch the top edge around the curves. 12. Remove from embroidery frame and carefully remove the stabiliser. 13. Press embroidery face down onto a towel. Construction: 1. Sew sample buttonhole, cut and make sure cord fits the hole. 2. Place fabric stabiliser behind buttonhole position remembering that the buttonholes sew backwards. Sew buttonholes. 3. Right sides together pin the front and back of the bag together. Using 3/8 (1cm) seam sew sides and bottom of bag. 4. Repeat for lining but leaving 4 (10cm) gap in bottom. 9. Turn right side out through the gap in the lining. 10. Press, making sure curves are smooth. 11. Take the flat bed with accessory compartment off machine and slip the bag top over free arm. Sew two rows of stitches, one level with the top of the buttonhole and stitch again level with the buttonhole bottom. 5. Press side seams open. 6. Turn lining right side out, place lining in bag right side together. 7. Pin top edges together matching side seams, sew 1/4 (6mm) seam around the top. TIP: To get a straight line, use your ruler. 12. Edge stitch the gap in the lining closed.

13. Thread the cord through front left front buttonhole, continue all the way around and come out the back left buttonhole, repeat for the right. Congratulations your Pyjamas Bag is finished!
