CARE & MAINTENANCE KIT G R A N I T E Now from Sheridan, a care kit that is a necessity for every work surface. It includes everything you need to keep your worksurface in first class condition, simply follow the instructions for a trouble free, good looking worktop. We feel that the inclusion of our Care Kit, is a must, given a number of problems which in our experience are often preventable. Including this kit will greatly reduce the occurance of such problems in the future. A Care Kit will be sent out with every worksurface order, the cost will be shown on all our quotations and invoices. Contents of the Kit 1 bottle of 500ml Stone Seal, 1 bottle of 500ml Wax Stone Cream, 1 bottle of 500ml of Stone Detergent, 1 pair of disposable gloves, 2 White Cloths, 1 White Scotchbrite, 1 Care & Maintenance Booklet. Stone Seal Protection for your worksurface, apply and allow to dry fully. Protects against stains caused by food and drinks such as coffee and tea etc. Stone Wax Cream A detergent polishing cream especially developed to clean and maintain surface shine. Removes most dull patches which may have been caused by soap and water residue or by general use. Stone Detergent Keep your worktop clean by applying our specially formulated cleaner regularly to your worksurface. For general cleaning of your worktop this should be diluted 1-100. For heavier grease or stains this dilution rate can be reduced accordingly. For more comprehensive details re g a rding caring for your Granite worksurface, please refer to your Sheridan Care & Maintenance booklet.

G R A N I T E TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Due to the nature of granite, thickness of worktops can vary slightly. Sheridan endeavour to keep this variation within a tolerance of ±2mm. Work surfaces are shimmed up with laminate packing on site, adjusting the thicknesses to suit each installation. Granite joints are finished with a small ariss to the top edge, silicone sealant is applied to prevent water ingression. Slips (kit form) around sink and hob cut-outs are fitted in certain circumstances - if tops are too long and depending upon type and size of cutout etc. Limiting factors like access, stairs, service lift size, fragile nature of the tops should also be taken into consideration. For installations you will need to supply additional labour on orders which have worktops weighing above 150kg. For supply only please note we only supply one driver, you will need to supply additional labour for orders which have worktops weighing above 75kg. Every additional 75kg requires an extra man to assist with lifting. Size of scant or slab, is a major factor in selecting the maximum usable length of a work surface. Approximately 2.8m x 1.5m is the l a rgest work surface we are able to manufacture, this may be drastically reduced if you require a cutout, especially in granites with larger crystals. Due to the weight of granite, please ensure that your units are level and securely fixed. STAINLESS STEEL SINKS Please specify the preferred undermounting of Stainless Steel Sinks. Silicone sealant may be rendered ineffective when plumbing the sink in, it is important that the sink is re-sealed by the plumber, or the 12months guarantee will be invalid if the work is not carried out. INTERNAL RADIUS Internal profile edges on all edge detail other than bevel edge must have a radius of at least 60mm. Bevel edges don t have this constraint as they are hand finished. UPSTANDS Upstands should be ideally 100mm high, as under this upstands are extremely fragile for handling. HOT STUFF!! Hot pans should not be placed directly on a granite worktop. LIMITATIONS Molecular structure renders granite very stable but rigid and will not bend or flex in worktop thicknesses, granite is not suitable in long span applications. Can incorporate natural flaws, pot marks, veining, irregularities and can never be guaranteed to remain consistent throughout the whole installation. Breakages can and do occur in the manufacturing process, should this be the case, delays can become inevitable. Sawn into slabs from a 4 cu. m block, which weigh around 10 tonnes, cutting can take up to a week, and can reveal variation in the consistency, colour and thickness throughout the block. Granite is difficult to work, requiring water cooled diamond tooling.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS G R A N I T E PROPERTIES Ability to withstand extreme pressure loading Pleasing to the eye Complete with polished finish Great variety in colour and pattern options. Ideal for vanity tops, worksurfaces, cladding etc. 7 on the Moh s Hardness scale CUTOUTS A minumum of 200mm is required between two hob cutout. A minumum of 100mm is required between hob and sink cutouts. A minumum of 70mm is required between two sink cutouts. Sink cutouts are placed 90mm from the worktop front edge. We were one of the first manufacturers to regularly fix steel bars to cut-outs, adding greater strength. The table in Fabrication Section shows our recommendations for the maximum length when a cut out is to be included in a granite worksurface. Unpolished Sink/Hob cut out Barred* Front & Back Large cut outs need to be scored and cored on occasions. This leaves the corners of the cutout in place, ready for removal on-site by the installer. Polished Sink cut out Barred* must be 90mm min from front to back. Unbarred - 300mm below maximum recommended length. Still 90mm from front to back. One piece is possible if absolutely necessary * The term used to describe the fitting of steel support bars to give additional support to cutouts. Without steel supports bars, the length of a cut out is reduced considerably. Colour matching is not always possible as granite can vary dramatically throughout each scant. Samples provided should be used as a guide only. Granite sometimes is susceptible to 'blowing out'. This occurs when contact is made with the material whilst cutting or grinding. This is very common in large particled granite. ie. we fill and seal the affected areas with epoxy resin (colour may vary) to ensure the material is not left with any sharp edges or chips. Although one of the least absorbent stones, Granite can be stained by grease, wine, coffee, sweet and sour, nicotine, fruit juices, even champagne! Any spillage must be removed immediately from a granite worksurface, delay could cause permanent damage. Granite worksurfaces are sealed prior to despatch and upon installation, then every 6 months by your customer using the maintenance kit. Worktops should be re-sealed periodically, to prevent damage occurring. This is especially necessary in high traffic areas.

AESTHETICS GRANITE Although we will endeavour to supply product as close as possible to the sample in-store, granite is a natural product and variations in colour will occur, as will veining, pit marks, fisures and other natural flaws. Please contact us for samples of current stock, as we cannot accept responsibility for differences between samples and stock once your worksurface has been manufactured. When installed, some worktops may appear to vary in colour. This may be due to reflectors in granite moving in different plains i.e. L shaped worktops in colours such as Blue Pearl and Emerald Pearl. Baltic Brown, Giallo Veneziano, Antique Pearl, Nero Bellissimo along with a number of other colours, are more fragile when compared with say African Black and are resin treated at source to fill natural flaws and pit marks and often render the material more stable. E D G E D E T A I L F A B R I C AT I O N The edge detail can completely change the appearance of a worktop, although the more complicated the detail, the more the cost will be as a result of the additional work that has to be done, as this is very skilled and labour intensive. A Double bevel Edge is included in the linear metre price of a worktop, but all other edges carry an additional charge. It should be noted that the only material available in 40mm solid thickness is Granite. Birds Beak, Milano and Visage edges are only available in 20/20mm, whilst Venetian is only available in 30/30mm E D G E D E TA I L DOUBLE BEVEL IS STANDARD - OTHER EDGES ADDITIONAL COST AVAILABLE IN 20mm, 20-20mm & 30mm thickness (40mm is also available in Granite, subject to availability, can be up to 8 weeks lead time). 20/20mm EDGES DOUBLE BEVEL IMPERIAL BIRDS BEAK SINGLE PENCIL FULL BULLNOSE MILANO DOUBLE PENCIL SINGLE OVOLO DRAINER GROOVES PAN RESTS VISAGE EDGE Visage Edge detail provides a metalic laminate finish, enhancing the look and thickness of the worktop. 5 GROOVE DRAINER Drainer Grooves available with 5 Groove Drainer or 3mm Recessed Drainer. Pan Rests are aesthetically pleasing and provide a solution to the problem of hot pans on worktops. Hot pans can cause thermal shock when placed on a worktop and the consequences can be both dangerous and can damage worktops. WEIGHT/AREA RATIO F A B R I C AT I O N Handling worktops is always at least a two man job, for example a 30mm granite top 2.6m long x.6m = 145kg or 23 stone!! Granite is a very hard but brittle surface and great care must always be taken when handling or installing it. Additional labour may be required for installations where the weight of a worktop is over 150kg, each further 75kg will require an additional man to assist with handling. The table above gives a breakdown of the weight per metre for each colour.
