CONSTRUCTION SAFETY DATA FOR 2015 - US 4,836 workers were killed on the job in 2015 (3.4 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers) - on average, more than 93 a week or more than 13 deaths every day. Falls - 364 deaths (38.8%) Out of 4,379 worker fatalities in private industry in calendar year 2015, 937 or 21.4% were in construction Struck by Object - 90 deaths (9.6%) Electrocutions - 81 deaths (8.6%) Caught-in between - 67 deaths (7.2%)

SAFETY INCIDENT DATA FOR INDIA It is estimated that about 165 per 1000 workers get injured in the construction sector. The rate of fatal accidents in construction sector is 4 to 5 times that of the manufacturing sector Falls accounts for highest causes of deaths in construction sites i.e. 12803 deaths in 2013, which is about 3.2% of the total accidental deaths reported in India for the year During the year 2013, about 10218 persons died due to electrocution, which had shown an increase of 1468 deaths compared to the year 2012 1690 deaths occurred due to fire, which had caused due to shortcircuits in the year 2013

PREDICTIVE ANALYSIS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE HOW DOES IT HELP Are we collecting meaningful data? Are we analyzing the data to throw meaningful insights on safety parameters? Are we utilizing the data to predict and prevent safety incidents? Data the lifeline of future technology and innovation How are we utilizing AI (artificial intelligence) to prevent incidents?

PREDICTIVE ANALYSIS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE HOW DOES IT HELP

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY... ROLE IN SAFETY With construction wearable s ability to monitor and report biometrics and dangerous environmental conditions there will be more immediate responses to safety issues. Insurance companies are investigating how wearable technology and BIM can help reduce risk and increase efficiencies in the construction industry. Safer safety vests, equipped with GPS systems to monitor worker location, are becoming more common. Proximity Warning System (PWS), is an audible and visual warning system designed to reduce the risk of vehicle personnel collisions. This can help to avoid 10% of all construction fatalities.

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY... ROLE IN SAFETY IBM Employee Wellness and Safety Solution to collect data from various sensors that continuously monitor the worker s skin body temperature, heart rate, galvanic skin response and level of activity, correlated with sensor data for ambient temperature and humidity. The solution then enables user to provide personalized safety guidelines to each individual employee. The same platform can be used to prevent excessive exposure to different temperatures, radiation levels, noise, or toxic gases, using sensor tags for temperature, humidity, noise, or light measurements. Gases can be detected using personal sensors enabled using Wifi or Bluetooth low energy sensors. A survey reported by Accenture, said that that nearly two-thirds of insurers expect wearable technologies to have a significant impact on the industry within two years.
