Metering Standards Title: BASIC USE OF DRANETZ ANALYZER FOR METER MS 8. Page: of 9.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to describe a method for using the Dranetz analyzer to commission transformer rated meters. 2.0 SCOPE This procedure applies to the use of the Dranetz analyzer as part of reference 3. Commissioning Procedure For Transformer Rated Meters. 3.0 REFERENCE 3. MS 2.2, Commissioning Procedure For Transformer Rated Meters. 3.2 Dranetz Analyzer 8000-2 Operator s Manual. 4.0 EQUIPMENT 4. Safety Equipment - Safety Glasses - Safety Footwear - Hard Hat - Work Gloves - Rubber Gloves - Fire retardant clothing (for use under live conditions) - Alternate Light Source 4.2 Test Equipment 5.0 POWER - Dranetz Circuit Analyzer 5. Verify that the voltage leads are connected to the back of the Dranetz as follows: red to A channel, yellow to B, blue to C, and black to Common. 5.2 Verify that the CT leads are connected to the back of the Dranetz as follows: red to A channel, yellow to B, and blue to C. 5.3 Verify that the ground lead (green) is connected to the Safety Gnd at the back of the Dranetz and to an available grounding point at site. 5.4 If there is a 20VAC outlet, then power the Dranetz from it. 5.5 If there is no 20VAC outlet, use the internal battery. 5.6 If there is no outlet and the internal battery does not work, use a voltmeter to check for 20VAC at the test block. If so, use the modified power cord to power the Dranetz from this source. The Dranetz will do a self-check, and then display the MAIN menu when powered up. 6.2 Initialize the printer as follows: - select option 4, Configuration Setup - select option, Inputs/Outputs - select option 6, Other Devices - press the second key on the bottom row (below the screen) to turn the printer on. 6.3 Select the configuration setup as follows: - select option 4, Configuration Setup - select option, Inputs/Outputs - select option, Analogue Inputs - press the select config options button on the lower left corner of the screen. - choose one of the following options for Present Configuration depending upon the service: Service Type Single phase 2 wire, one 2-wire CT) Single Phase (3 wire, one 3-wire CT) Single Phase (3 wire, two 2-wire CT Present Config. Required Single Phase Single Phase Split Phase 3 Phase, 3 Wire, Delta 3 Phase, 3 Wire, 2 Probe 3 Phase, 4 wire, Wye 2 /2 Element (2 /2 Element Wye) 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Wye 3 Phase, 4 Wire, 3 Probe (3 Element, Wye) 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Delta 3 Phase, 4 Wire, 3 Probe (Three single 2-wire CTs) 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Delta 3 Phase, 4 Wire, 3 Probe (One 2-wire CT and one 3-wire CT) OR (One 2 -wire CT and two 2-wire CTs connected parallel) 6.4 Verify the screen is displaying FREQ. SYNC:EXTERNAL. If not, then press to change it to EXTERNAL. 6.5 Press the Exit button a several times to return to the MAIN menu. C:\Documents and Settings\AG976\Desktop\Metering Standards\MS 8-.doc

Ensure that the arrow on the CT clip leads point to the meter side. Service Type Connection to Test Block Single phase: Black lead to BK (neutral). Red (2 wire, one 2-wire CT) volt lead to R (red hot). Red CT clip to R/W (current) Single Phase: Black lead to BK (hot). Red (3 wire, one 3-wire CT) volt lead to R (hot). Red CT clip to R/W (current) Single Phase: Black lead to neutral. Red volt (3 wire, two 2-wire CT) lead to R (hot). Yellow volt lead to BK (hot), Red CT clip to R/W (current). Yellow CT clip to Y/W (current) 3 Phase, 3 Wire, Delta: Jumper yellow and black leads. Red, yellow, blue volt leads to R,Y,B (red, yellow, blue voltage). Red CT clip to R/W (current), Blue CT clip to B/W (current) 3 Phase, 4 wire, Wye: Jumper yellow and black leads. (2 /2 Element Wye) Red, yellow, blue volt leads to R, Y, B (red, yellow, blue voltage). Red, yellow, blue CT clips to R/W, Y/W, B/W (red, yellow, blue current). 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Wye Black lead to W (neutral). Red, (3 Element, Wye) yellow, blue volt leads to R,Y,B (Red, yellow, blue voltage). Red, yellow, blue CT clips to R/W, Y/W, B/W (red, yellow, blue current). 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Delta Black lead to W (neutral). Red, (Three single 2-wire CT) yellow, blue volt leads to R,Y,B (red, yellow, blue voltage). Red, yellow, blue CT clips to R/W, Y/W, B/W (red, yellow, blue current). 3 Phase, 4 Wire, Delta Black lead to W (neutral). Red (One 2-wire CT and yellow, blue volt leads to one 3-wire CT) R,Y, B (red, yellow, blue (One 2-wire CT Red CT clip to R/W and voltage). (red current). Yellow (not two 2-wire CTs blue) CT clip to B/W (blue current). connected in parallel) 7.2 The last configuration above, total Watts seen by Dranetz will differ from the total watt seen by the meter. Refer to clause 0 for the required calculations. 8.0 OPERATION 8. Print the Voltage and Current vectors as follows: - select option, Meter Mode - select option 4 Voltage and Current Phasors - push print to get a hard copy of the vetors. C:\Documents and Settings\AG976\Desktop\Metering Standards\MS 8-.doc
MS 8. Page: 4 of 9 - select Next Param to choose the other vectors. - push print to get a hard copy - these vectors should closely match the vector diagrams in this procedure. 8.2 Press the Exit button a several times to return to the MAIN menu. 8.3 Print the summary as follows: - select option 2, View Reports - select option, All Channels, All Parameters - push print to get a hard copy Note : The summary should be printed at the same time as the disk timing or instantaneous meter readings are taken to avoid the errors introduced by fluctuating load. Note 2: If the load is fluctuating, obtain one print out at the start of disk timing and a second print out at the end of disk timing. This will show the load fluctuation and the average value may be used to compare with the meters present demand reading. 8.4 Attach the print outs to the Metering Installation Commissioning Sheet. 9.0 COMPLETION 9. Once the commissioning is complete, disconnect the Dranetz and remove voltage and current leads first and then the neutral. 9.2 Return the CT/ PT cabinet and meter test switch back to its normal operating state. Install security seals to ensure the metering is adequately secured from unauthorized personnel 0.0 FORMULAS Refer to clause 7.2 and the vector data obtained from the Drantez Analyzer: Secondary Watts = V A I A Cos A + V B I B Cos (B - D)- V c I B Cos (C - B) where A is the angle of phase A current, B is the angle of phase B voltage, C is the angle of phase C voltage and D is the angle of phase B current. Example: V a = 207.6 volt, V b = 2 volt @ 9 V c = 9 volt @ 27 I a =.46 amps @ 33, I b =.943 amps @ 64 = (207.6) (.46) Cos (33 )+ (2) (.943) Cos (9-64 ) - (9) (.943) Cos (27-64 ) = 62.25 + 209.48 - (-206.02) = 578 Watts This is what the meter is expected to register.
