Summary of February Meeting Twenty-two people attended the February meeting to hear a presentation by Steve Morrison, Regional Director, National Bank Securities, and David Schofield of National Bank. The primary focus was on Global Economic Review and Investing in 2012 and a few minutes were spent in explaining the Tax Free Savings Account, its provisions and advantages. Mr. Morrison explained how the National Bank has been named the strongest bank in North America in terms of financial strength and ranked third in the world based on certain key selection criteria. He went on to explain that increased life expectancy, inflation, long tern cost of health care has necessitated better investment planning and a rigorous asset allocation of investments. He explained the need to diversify and stay invested long term for better results. According to him in spite of the volatility in the market, the Canadian market is strong and globally we can expect a growth in excess of 3%. He summarized that: The recovery of global economy continues The key to financial success is diversification Assistance from central banks will support stock markets All in all market outlook is good To always consult your financial adviser regularly Mr. Morrison and Mr. Schofield then explained the Tax Free savings account, the limits per year and how the earnings are also tax-free.
