National Curriculum Textbook 2A This book, along with Textbook 2B covers every outcome of the Year 2 course, as laid out in the National Curriculum England framework document, (July 2013). There are no A and B exercises. The book covers the first half of the Year 2 course without the teacher having to pick and choose which questions to leave out and which exercises are important. Subtraction with Exchanging (Borrowing) Subtraction 2 Subtracting 1 digit number from 2 digit number with exchanging. Example Subtract :- 24 8. = = = 16 24 8 = 10 + 14 8 = 10 + 6 = 16 Then the 2 tens become 1 ten. Now we can do the subtraction. This can be written as T U 1 1 2 4 8 1 6 We cannot take 8 away from 4. 2-D Shapes 2 Quadrilaterals What is meant by Quadrilateral? Be able to recognise quadrilaterals and know some of their basic properties. A Quadrilateral is a 4 sided shape with straight lines. The shape is made up of 4 straight lines. You have already met the square and the rectangle. In this chapter, we look at some of their properties and introduce 3 other special quadrilaterals... parallelogram The Square Exercise 1 rhombus Your teacher will help explain what to do in this exercise. 1. Either trace this square or use a ruler to draw one of your own on a piece of paper. Answer these questions about your square :- square kite rectangle a Are all four sides the same length? b Are all four angles the same size? What kind are they? c Does it have symmetry? How many lines of symmetry has it? d Use a pair of scissors to neatly cut out the square. Turn your tracing over to see how many ways you can fit it back into the actual square on the page.
