And this unique IR technology can also simultaneously measure the thickness, density and oil content providing a comprehensive picture of total film quality. 4 Roll Inverted Textile Calender Thickness, Basis Weight and Oil Measurement NDC s FG710S infrared sensor is able to measure both the thickness and basis weight of clear, voided, cavitated, porous and translucent films. Thickness measurement of voided films has proven difficult due to density variation through the product. Now NDC s patented FG710S combines discrete near infrared filters and powerful gauge algorithms that enable direct thickness measurement of these voided films. NDC uses proprietary IR filters, algorithms and spectral shift of absorption curves to determine on-line thickness of micro-porous film in the typical range of 10 to 40 microns. This also allows density to be calculated based on the infrared thickness and basis weight measurements. In addition the FG710S can measure the oil content in PE battery film across the entire process, beginning with the wet cast film, after the biax stretch and the final film itself. The measurement strategy uses threshold measurement limits to ensure that sensor readings below a certain uncoated value are ignored.
