Libby on Your Mobile Device (This Handout is not for the Kindle Fire.) Downloading the App Your device s app store offers a free app called Libby by OverDrive (You will need this app to download library ebooks and audiobooks.) It is Free! Creating an Account for the App When you first open Libby, she will tell you, Hi. Click on the round, light blue hi. Next, tap Find My Library toward the bottom of the screen. If you have your location, turned on your device, Libby will search for your library. Your location should be Southeastern Libraries Cooperating. If Libby tells you that, click yes. If not, click No and type in your Zip Code. This will prompt Southeastern Libraries Cooperating. (If your location setting is not turn on, you will be prompt to enter your library location. Use the zip code option to bring up Southeastern Libraries Cooperating.) Click on Find My Library. Tap Hi! Select yes. Next, Libby will ask if you have a library card. Select yes and have your library card ready. On the next screen, type in your library card with no spaces and tap sign in. You are now ready to search the catalog. Type in your library card number (no spaces.) Tap on Yes. Click on sign in.
The Catalog Browsing for Books Before you start browsing the catalog, set your preferences. To do this, tap the plus sign (+) in the maroon circle. You can indicate whether you want to see all titles or just available titles. When browsing, it is recommended to select available titles. You can also select a language and audience. Selecting an audience is a lot like selecting Juvenile, Young Adult, or Adult Collections. Once you have selected you preferences, select Apply Preferences. Tap the + to set your preferences. Tap on the preference that you would like to change and select your new preference. Now you are set to start browsing the collections. You can browse either newly added items or popular collections. Items newly added to the collection are located directly below your preferences. To view all the items, click on the phrase Over 8,800 titles >. The popular collections are located directly below the section on newly added items. You can look at all of the collections by taping Explore Our Collections. Tap on over 8,800 titles to view all the newly added titles. Tap on Explore our collections to view all of the collections.
Searching for Books To search for books, click the search icon at the top of the page. You will now be able to type in your search. You can do either title or author. Search results will then populate. Tap here to search. Type Search Search Results Appear. Searching: Tips & Tricks How to Tell If a Book is ebook or Audiobook: Audiobooks have a pair of headphones at the bottom of the cover. Ebooks just have the book cover. How to Tell If a Book is Available / Checked Out: If an item is available, it will say Borrow to the right of the book. If it is checked out, it will say Place Hold. This book is available for checkout. This book is not available for checkout. To find out more about a Book: Tap the cover of a book to find out more information about it. A plain cover means it s an ebook. Tap book to learn more about it. This is an audiobook.
Placing a Title on Hold & Checking Items Out Placing a Title on Hold When an item is not available, there is a holds list for it. To put yourself on the hold list, press Place Hold to the right of the cover. The card you have linked to Libby will appear. Tap the Place Hold! button below it. Tap Place Hold. Click Place Hold on This Screen. The next screen will prompt you to enter your email and apply changes. Type in your email and click Apply Changes. The last screen will prompt you to select Keep Browsing or to Edit Hold. You will receive an email when the hold is available. It will automatically be checked out; to access it, see the section on Reading an ebook/ Listening to an Audiobook. Type email address here. Select to either Keep Browsing or Edit Hold.
Checking Out a Book Once you find an Available item to check out, click borrow located to the right of the book cover. The next screen will show you your library card and the borrow button will be below the card. Click borrow. The last screen will tell you that you have borrowed the book. At this point, you can continue to browse the collection or go to your shelf to read the book. Tap Borrow Select to either keep browsing or go to shelf to read the book. Click Borrow on this screen. Reading an ebook/ Listening to an Audiobook There are two ways to go to where you need to go open a book. The first is right after a book is checkedout. Click on Go to Shelf. The second is from the bottowm of the screen. At the bottom-right of the screen, click on shelf. Both way will take you to loans and holds. To open the book to read or listen, you will either open the new book or resume an old book. Tap Resume to continue a book. Tap Go to Shelf. Tap Open Book to start it. Tap Shelf.
Navigating Libby At the bottom of the screen, you will almost always see Libby. On her left, it says Library and on the right, it says Shelf. Library takes you to the catalog. Shelf takes you to your loans and holds. Tap here to go to the catalog. Tap here to go your loans & holds. Returning a Book To return an book, you will need to go to the Loans Shelf. Find the book you want to return and click Actions at the left of the book. Then tap return title to the library. On the final screen click return. Tap Actions. Click Return Title to Library. Tap Return. The book is now returned.
