July 2013 ISR Designer of Sports Products The Institute for Sports Research (ISR) is a Singapore-based international collaboration between the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and Loughborough University (LU) in the UK, created in July 2011 with the support of Economic Development Board (EDB). ISR aims to quickly become the leading international Sports R&D center in Asia-Pacific that constantly delivers impactful innovations through cutting-edge research and strong collaboration with stakeholders. The ISR imagines new possibilities offered by science and technology to create sports solutions and inspire the sports market through collaborative and interdisciplinary research support. The ISR has a strong focus on disruptive innovation for product R&D and is conducting research work for key international sports brands. Exciting research areas within the ISR include sporting equipments (racquets, golf club, helmets, Bike frame ), apparels, footwear, and artificial playing surfaces. The ISR is recruiting a Designer of Sports Products with proven expertise in the domain of sports equipment s (bike frame, helmets, rackets ) and footwear (running and cleat categories). Responsibilities: Explore new horizons of sports product design for true end-user benefits: generate concepts and functional prototypes in the different product categories : footwear, equipment, apparel, accessories Work closely with Researchers and R&D Project Managers to illustrate new technology possibilities into tangible product design and user experience Execute some product design mission given by our sports brands clients. Establish a permanent link with the School of Arts Design and Media (ADM @ NTU) to collaborate and leverage from their resources ( http://www.adm.ntu.edu.sg/pages/home.aspx ) Stay tuned with sports product design evolution and generates design market reports to inform and educate the team.

Propose new product developments and initiatives with local and external parties. Assist in grant proposal writing, project management and student project supervision. Requirements: Visionary product designer with sense of reality. 2 to 5 years working experience in the domain of sport products design or similar consumer goods. Skills in both CAD Design software and hands-on approach on prototyping. A true interest for new possibilities offered by science and technology and willing to work with engineer and scientists. Experience working within a large academic or research entity. Excellent communication skills in English. Have a passion for sports practice and related products to be user centered. Work closely with Researchers and R&D Project Managers to illustrate new technology possibilities into tangible product design and user experience. Requirements: MSc in Sports Science and/or Materials Science Engineering from a leading university. 2 to 5 years working experience in an athletics footwear company. Good marketing sensibility. Skills in Biomechanical Testing, Analysis of Footwear and Footwear Technology Development would be a preferred, however not a prerequisite. Have led / managed sports technology projects from a science / engineering angle. Excellent communication skills in English. Requirements: Textile Engineer or MSc in Materials Science applied to textile from a leading university. 8 15 years working experience in a technical sports apparel company or in a sport industry textile supplier. Skills with exercise and sports science testing would be preferred, however not a prerequisite. Have led / managed sports technology projects from a science / engineering angle. Successful experience in managing a team. Good marketing sensibility and willing to manage a strong relationship with our partner to secure the deliverable of R&D and the overall added value and output of the Joint Innovation Center. Responsibilities: Lead and produce the realization of R&D missions for our clients of the sports industry: sports brands and material suppliers. Lead and manage the progress of various research projects and collaborations. Contribute to the implementation and management of a Joint Industry Program of research on new composites applied to sports products (Bio-sourced materials, Thin Plies, Thermoplastic composites, Nano-Composites). Propose new research directions and initiatives with local and external parties. Assist academic supervisor in proposal writing, project management and student project supervision. Provide support in the lab setup, research work activities and equipment training for end-users.

Requirements: MSc or PhD Degree in Materials Science / Engineering from a leading university. 2 to 10 years working experience in a related field. Skills in inorganic materials or textile would be a plus. Have led / managed sports technology projects from a science / engineering angle. Excellent communication skills in English. The ISR is recruiting an R&D Sports Science Project Officer with biomechanics, physiology performance and sports product testing expertise. The role will be positioned within the soft goods department of ISR and will eventually become a part of a planned product performance laboratory to be established within ISR. Responsibilities: As part of a group of R&D project officers and reporting to the ISR R&D Programmes Director, the job will consist of sports science tasks surrounding the R&D effort required for relevant sports product related projects embraced by the center. Work closely with Researchers, R&D Project Officers and Managers from other disciplines to evaluate the performance benefits of sports products and determine the efficacy of sports products. Liaise closely with other Sports Scientists from the Physical Education and Sports Science Departments at National Institute of Education (Singapore) and Loughborough University (UK), and the Singapore Sports Institute.

Further develop and conduct applied sports science testing methodologies on sports product consumers and analyse the human interaction with sports product. Assist the R&D Programmes Director to identify new technology possibilities for athletes and product performance testing equipment in order to propose strong innovations driven by end-user benefits. Keep abreast of technological development throughout sports science from around the globe and with the latest evolution of testing equipment to inform and educate the R&D team. Propose new research directions and initiatives with R&D Programmes Department. Requirements: Graduate in Sports Science and/or Sports Engineering from a leading university. 2 to 5 years sports science working experience within organisations such as Institutes of Sport, Sports Academies, Sports Companies, High Level Sports Clubs or Associations. Skills in research methodological design, biomechanical and physiological testing, data statistical analysis. Have worked on sports technology projects from a sports science / engineering angle would be preferred, however not a prerequisite. Excellent communication skills in English.
