Weibel Scientific Solvang 30 3450 Allerød Denmark Fixed head Doppler radars Network ready for the future

1. Introduction The network ready SL-xxxP family of fixed head Weibel Doppler Radar Systems are highly portable and based on state-of-the-art radar technologies. Transmitting and receiving antennas are microstrip arrays and all electronic components are integrated in the Antenna / Processor unit. The new SL-xxxP family of Doppler Radars can connect directly to your TCP/IP network - and can be accessed and controlled/monitored from any standard PC on the network running the software. This new unique feature enables some new configurations: Easy access to remote un-manned radars through a standard interface. A super user/supervisor can easily assist radar operators in the field. Remote assistance over the internet. Multiple radars and PCs networked together for maximum flexibility. The internal sample memory ensures safe operation on networks with low bandwidth. The fixed head Doppler Radar Systems are based on the renowned SL-520M/W-700 family and are designed to operate under field conditions. The SL-xxxP family incorporates the W-700 signal analyzer functionality into the antenna and a standard PC. The rugged mechanical system design combined with a robust electronic design ensures high reliability and resistance to blast and vibrations from the weapons firing. These radar systems operate on the Doppler principle. The radar antenna transmits a microwave Continuous Wave (CW) signal, receives the echoed signal from the target, and subtracts the transmitted signal from the received signal generating the Doppler signal. The Doppler signal is amplified and digitized in the built-in processor. The digitized Doppler signal are stored in the digital memory. The velocity is calculated using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) and digital signal processing. The use of FFT-based calculation enables the system to measure on all types of ammunition and calibers including: Bullets Artillery Mortars Tracers Base bleed ammunition Anti-tank rounds APFSDS Rockets The system is designed to measure velocities from 30 to 3000 m/s with an over-all system accuracy typically better than +/- 0.05%. The system can store over 1000 muzzle velocity results in a non-volatile memory. The Weibel Doppler radar systems incorporate a unique self-calibrating technology as an option. With this option, the system does not need any calibration during its entire life cycle, calibrating itself with the speed of light as a reference. 2. System overview The system consists of the a Doppler radar antenna, with built-in acoustic trigger, processor, and power supply, an optional Muzzle Flash detector FOT-2, peripherals (Power supply, laser printer and Instrumentation Controller) and cables. The Doppler radar system must use all of the Weibel manufactured items; however, the peripherals can be changed. The host controller must be a Windows compatible computer with the control and processing software installed. 2/9

The function of the sub sections SL-xxxP Block diagram Antenna: Microstrip based Doppler radar antenna including: All microwave components including front end narrow band filter. The narrow band microwave filter ensures that the receiver is not saturated by other radars such as high power pulse radars. The SL-xxxP also includes front end Low Noise Amplifier, I/Q mixer and I/Q low noise base band amplifier Built-in acoustic trigger Trigger system Data acquisition and data processing section for digitization and intermediate storing of the Doppler signal before transfer to the for processing. The hardware and software is based on the renowned W-700 Doppler radar analyzer which has been used worldwide for tests on proving grounds and in private companies. All processing algorithms are the same as used in the W-700. The Doppler signal are digitized and temporarily stored in the internal sample memory during the measurement. The digitized signal are transferred to the IC 700 computer after the measurement for further analysis and permanent storage. This reduces the required bandwidth on the connection to the antenna, and secures against loss of data due to network limitations. 4/9

The SL-xxxP software is programmed into non-volatile memory, but the software can be updated via the external interface from the Host-PC without opening the SL-xxxP system box. SeCa: MoCo: FOT-2: CAB-114: CAB-101: Self-calibration, the SL-xxxP system incorporates a unique self-calibration technology, and calibrates the measured velocity with the speed of light as reference. With this optional feature the system does not need regular calibration throughout its entire lifetime. Motion Compensation, the SL-xxxP system includes an optional active motion compensation allowing the system to accurately compensate for the platform motion (i.e. when the system is mounted on a mobile platform), this feature also allows accurate compensation for the actual gun jump when the radar system is installed directly on the gun system. Muzzle flash detector starts the storing of the Doppler signal in the SL-xxxP Radar System. The FOT-2 is optional. Power & communication cable between the SL-xxxP and the, 76 meters.
