Here we are at the end of the 2017-2018 program year and what a year it has been! I would like to thank everyone for participating in RING 12 this year. I feel honored to have served as President of this fine organization over the past year and appreciate all of hard work and cooperation of our Membership and Board of Directors. Thank you all for a memorable time! Thanks to Skip Cooper for volunteering for the Teaching Table. It was a lot of work coordinating it and he did a great job. The Teaching Table just shows what great talent we have in this club.
Unfortunately due to my medical problems I missed a few meetings but the ones I did attend were great. We had some great lectures came in and the lectures from our own members were just as good. I would like to encourage everyone to attend the June meeting as this will be the last time we will see each out her for a couple of months. Editor s Letter We ve come to an end of another great season of Ring 12, we laughed, we loved, and we learned magic from some of the best talent in the room, which includes talent in our ring. I myself took a step and got an amazing mentor to help me with everything. I set a goal to be able to do parties and help Scott Hood, and do charity work. My next step would be maybe other gigs. I have so much material and I need to utilize it. I hope you all utilize and practice and perform to the best of your abilities. Have an amazing summer and good luck on exams. Thanks for reading, Shlomo Birkan May s Meetings We had our May ring meeting in April, as per usual. We usually get a FFFF member. This year was no different. Our lecturer was Michael Vincent, who is not only a member of FFFF, but also a member of England s Magic Castle. He talked about how, in magic, there are exclusive clubs where you have to prove yourself to get in. He s an excellent magician, and it is obvious that he spent a lot of time, by that, I mean decades, practicing. I don t know if I agree with exclusive clubs, but to each their own. There are enough workshops a year that I can go to, where what prohibits me is the price. Maybe one day there will be a free workshop, in Buffalo, or at an allexpense paid location with kosher food for ring reporters. Enough getting off topic. Michael Vincent had an awful lot of fantastic illusions. He had a coins across illusion turn into a fancy miser s dream (producing many coins into a cup) instead of picking coins from the air, he had a pretend slot machine in his hand. He did some card illusions that blew everybody s mind. For example, he had the jokers find a thought of card. He had other illusions with other props, but he also had tips. He had 3 M s for an illusion, Magical, Memorable, Meaningful. This was among others. Another unique aspect of this lecture is that Michael Vincent didn t bring anything to sell. I probably would have bought explanations of his illusions. But, I m actually sitting right now getting my car expensively repaired, so that money is going use elsewhere.
Bonus May Meeting We had a bonus meeting in May, yay bonuses. We began with a teaching table by Jake Weiland s dad, he goes by Tony. He discussed the importance of practice and some tips for double lifts. He also showed some card illusions using a double lift as well as a spelling illusion using cards. Now, it was our lecturer Dan Fleishman. I have seen some of his L & L videos, I knew he would be good and he did not disappoint. He began with rope illusions, such as professor s nightmare and ring on rope. He did an excellent linking rings routine with only 4 rings. He did a cup and olive routine with a final load of a lime. He performed quite a few excellent card illusions, such as oil and water and an illusion with famous painting and a chosen card, climaxing with Mona Lisa holding the chosen card. All excellent material for close-up, especially restaurant magic. Another excellent meeting, a great bonus for all who attended.
