Dear Parents, Teachers and Performers It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the eighth year of the Robin Hood Festival of Music, Drama and Dance. The festival continues to strive to create an opportunity for the young people of Doncaster to perform and compete in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The festival has evolved into a hugely successful six-day event receiving individuals, clubs, groups, schools, choirs, and orchestras from all over the region. It is my hope that you will continue to support this wonderful project and encourage any potential competitor to join us and take part in this fun and friendly event. As we look forward to this year s proceedings, we are proud to once again welcome Coppice School to join us with our Music Making for Children with Special Needs and Disabilities. We are also pleased to introduce Dance as a new category to the festival. We have opened this section to 11yrs-19yrs only, however we may expand on this next year if it proves successful. The search for the next winners of the Atteys Cup for Musical Excellence, the ProAktive Cup for Dramatic Excellence, The Jessie Mellors Cup for Vocal Excellence, and the Junior Cup for the most outstanding Junior Performance of the festival has begun. I hope you enjoy reading this year s syllabus as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together and we look forward to receiving your entries, hearing your performances, and meeting you all throughout the festival. Please note that the closing date for entries this year is much earlier than usual. Responsibility The festival does not act in Loco Parentis. Please ensure that you provide adequate supervision of your child during their attendance at the festival. Mobile phones must be switched off during all performances throughout the festival. Refreshments will be available to purchase in the Cusworth Library throughout the festival. Festival Regulations Competitors may use the official accompanists or their own. Please state requirements on the application form. Please submit a copy of accompaniments with the application, noting the class number. This also applies to students using their own accompanists. Accompaniments must be presented in an acceptable manner for the accompanist to use on the day. Time limits must be strictly observed and in the case of own choice pieces, timings should be submitted on the entry form. No flash photography is permitted during performances. Any text/song material containing graphic language or swearing must be submitted in full so that an age appropriate audience can be accommodated. The panel reserve the right to reject entries that the panel deem unsuitable. Age limits are applicable as of the first day of the festival i.e. Thursday April 26 th 2018. Please Note, there will be a charge of 2.00 per adult on entry each day. Two-day tickets will be available for 3.00 and three-day tickets will cost 4.00. Children under the age of 18 will not be charged. The Festival does not accept liability for the infringement of copyright, recording or performing rights arising out of any entrant s accompaniment or performance. Teachers and Choreographers using music created from commercial recordings are advised that they are themselves responsible for seeking permission to record, from the recording companies concerned. Competitors must provide CDs. All must be clearly marked, and Festival organisers do not accept any responsibility for incorrect playing of CDs. Pointe must not be used in the 11yrs-13yrs category. The decision as to who is invited to this fantastic, evening performance remains entirely with the festival organisers. The following Trophies will be awarded on the evening: - The Atteys Cup for Musical Excellence will be presented to the most outstanding musical performance. The Jessie Mellors Cup will be presented to the most outstanding vocalist. The ProAktive Trophy will be presented to the most outstanding drama performance. The Robin Hood Junior Cup will be presented to the most outstanding Junior performance of the evening. The Ivy Hill Trophy will be presented to the most outstanding Dancer. The Laszkowicz Cup will be presented to the most outstanding pianist of the festival. The Robin Hood Music and Drama Festival Gala Evening In Aid of The Don Valley Music and Drama Festival The concert took place on Friday October 13 th and involved performances from Oliver Barker Evangeline Barnby, The Hill House Jazz and Guitar Orchestra amongst many others. The evening was a fabulous success and we raised 700 for the Don Valley festival team.
