State of Tennessee Department of State Tennessee State Library and Archives 403 Seventh Avenue North Nashville, Tennessee 37243-0312 KOLTICK, LONA BLACK (1923- ) GENEALOGICAL MATERIALS 1984-2004 Processed by: Harry A. Stokes Archival Technical Services Date Completed: May 10, 2005 Accession Number: 2004.099 Location: XIII-H-5-6; VII-D-3v Microfilm Accession Number: 1767 MICROFILMED

INTRODUCTION This finding aid focuses on the genealogical materials of Lona Black Koltick, born in Caddo County, Oklahoma, a long-time resident of Winchester, Tennessee, and presently residing in Janesville, Wisconsin. Spanning the years 1984-2004, the papers contain the genealogical research compiled by Mrs. Koltick in the production of her self-published books, My Heritage, 1986, and My Colonial Ancestry, 1999. The genealogical materials contained in the collection include the Black and Koltick (Koltyck) families as well as collateral lines (Acklen, Brandon, Brown, Colville, Constable, Dabbs, Evans, Farris, Gibson, Howell, Kendall, McKain, Lattemore, Lee, Moon, Moore, Norfleet, Odom, Reeves, Taylor, Whitworth, Williams, Winchester, and Young). In addition to genealogical data on the families cited, there is substantial information on the mysterious Melungeons of the Appalachian area of Tennessee and North Carolina (Box 7, Folder 6). The materials in this finding aid measure 4.5 linear feet. There are no restrictions on the material. Single photocopies of unpublished writings in the Lona Black Koltick Genealogical Materials may be made for individual or scholarly research.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The Lona Black Koltick Genealogical Materials containing approximately 855 items, span the period 1984-2004. The collection is composed of associations, institutions, etc., clippings, genealogical data, melungeon information, photographs and negatives, writings, and several miscellaneous items. The major portion of the collection consists of genealogical data relating to the Black and Koltick (Koltyck) families and collateral lines Acklen, Brandon, Brown, Colville, Constable, Dabbs, Evans, Farris, Gibson, Howell, Kendall, McKain, Lattemore, Lee, Moon, Moore, Norfleet, Odom, Reeves, Taylor, Whitworth, Williams, Winchester, and Young. There are numerous photographs and negatives. Where possible the photographs have been identified and there respective negatives have been matched accordingly. These negatives are housed in the vault of the Tennessee State Library and Archives. The research work of Mrs. Koltick resulted in the publication of two books on her family history: My Heritage, 1986, and My Colonial Ancestry, 1999. The later book may be found in the library holdings of the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
