The Medtronic Academy website (www.medtronicacademy.com) offers learning plans to provide educational opportunities for health care professionals from the beginner to advanced stages of their continuing professional development. Certificates are available to print after the completion of each online learning module.
CRHF Educational Opportunities for Cardiac Physiologists The Cardiac Physiologist Partnership Programme has been designed as an educational opportunity for Band 6 Cardiac Physiologists in hospitals actively implanting and following up pacemakers, icds, and cardiac resynchronisation devices. Each module has been designed to provide intense structured training with relevant Medtronic programming and implant support skills as the primary focus. Candidates can request an application from their local Medtronic Territory Manager or Technical Consultant. Each module will require pre-reading on www.medtronicacademy.com Module 1: Virtual Pacemaker Clinic The first module of the programme will focus on practical application of pacemaker follow up skills. This module will cover choosing the correct device for the patient, how to use the data a pacemaker provides, and understanding algorithms and their clinical use. 9th & 10th March 2016 14th & 15th September 2016 Module 2: Understanding ICD Algorithms The second module of the programme will utilise case studies to teach ICD sensing, detection, therapies and discriminators. A review of the latest clinical evidence and how to interpret device diagnostics will help students learn how to get the most out of Medtronic devices. 4th & 5th May 2016 19th & 20th October 2016 Module 3: CRT Implant and Follow Up Day 1 will provide cardiac physiologists with information about Medtronic CRT equipment used in implant. Catheters, venograms and leads will be discussed in relationship to patient anatomy. Plastic hearts will be used to simulate implants and allow physiologists an opportunity to place LV leads. 4th July 2016 23rd November 2016 Day 2 of the CRT module will provide a clinical papers overview, review of NICE guidance and a chance for attendees to review patient cases and discuss which devices would be most appropriate. CRT algorithm application will be taught through patient case studies. 5th July 2016 24th November 2016
Other exciting CRHF Educational Opportunities in 2016 Introduction to Devices A one day course designed to teach Band 5 physiologists the application of the basic principles of pacemakers and ICDs. Online pre-reading at www.medtronicacademy.com is required as the day is spent in a virtual clinic setting. Heart Failure Devices for Nurses A one day course designed to provide heart failure nurses with an understanding of how Medtronic devices can add value and save time in their centres. Please speak with your local Territory Manager, Technical Consultant, or member of the Patient Access Team team to set up a local date. Dates: 11th February 14th July 8th September 9th November Advanced Technologies An opportunity for heads of departments and those senior physiologists wanting a refresher on the latest Medtronic algorithms, clinical evidence, and a place for discussion about local best practice. This course will be held regionally twice a year. Please contact your local Territory Manager or Technical Consultant for more information and dates. CareLink for New Centres A one day course run in our Watford UK Headquarters designed to help new CareLink Centres in setting up a device service effectively utilising connected care. Getting the Most out of CareLink Patient Management A one day course run in our Watford UK Headquarters for centres who would like to take their current use of Connected Care to the next level. Talks from centres experienced with implementing CareLink and review of case studies make this an ideal course for centres having used CareLink but would like more help with improving work flow. CRHF Educational Opportunities for Specialist Trainees Foundations of Device Therapy This stand-alone course provides students with an introduction to cardiac device concepts. The course will provide a framework for device follow up as well as teach pacemaker implantation skills using implant simulators. Attending this course is not a pre-requisite to attending Medtronic CRHF University. Please contact your local Medtronic Representative for further information. Medtronic CRHF University 2016 The CRHF University has been developed in partnership with an advisory board of UK cardiologists in order to provide trainee cardiologists with hands on device training to complement current opportunities available in late stage cardiac device specialty training. The University programme consists of three modules run over the course of 8 months. Upon successful application to Medtronic CRHF University the applicants will be enrolled in each of the 3 modules. Each module involves a topic relevant to becoming a consultant who will ultimately be heavily involved with cardiac rhythm management devices on a daily basis. The Medtronic CRHF University modules are designed to provide intense hands on training around Medtronic device implantation, programming, and troubleshooting.
Faculty Medtronic CRHF University has been developed with our board of faculty advisors. Applications to Medtronic CRHF University will be reviewed by our faculty advisors in the relevant geographical area. All applications received by the 14th December 2015 will receive a response within one month. The first module takes place in May. Medtronic University Programme: Module 1: A highly interactive two day training course designed to provide trainees with the skills needed to implant and follow up complex devices. The course will also familiarise trainees with the latest device guidelines and clinical research. Module 2: A two day course held in a virtual catheter lab setting. Participants are filmed taking part and leading various cath lab scenarios. Feedback is then provided by experienced consultants in device implantation, human factors, and teamwork. Module 3: A two day course held in the Medtronic Customer Innovation Centre in Galway, Ireland. The course includes sessions on complex device case troubleshooting, the latest advances in Medtronic miniaturisation technology, changes in the NHS and case study reviews with the experts.

Application Process Applications are available from your local Medtronic representative or rs.watcvg@medtronic.com Applications for the Cardiac Physiologist Partnership Programme and the Medtronic CRHF University, must be submitted before the 14th December 2015. All applications for Medtronic CRHF University will be reviewed by the faculty member closest to the local deanery. Applicants should expect to receive a response by the end of January 2016. Applications for the Physiologist Partnership Programme will be reviewed on a local basis and applicants will be notified as places open up on the programme. Application submitted for EBAC credit.
