CLARITY OF COLOR at ART Elements Gallery show catalog
CLARITY OF COLOR June 23 August 20 I am a great believer in the fundamentals of painting; drawing, composition, color theory and the thought that paintings communicate an idea through this vocabulary. The process of bringing a concept to a complete image is deeply compelling and satisfying. My painting process is a very active one where my first marks and impressions are usually bold and gestural. Then I settle in and make assessments and refinements. The last marks are usually slow, quiet ones, as I am making small moves to find my way towards the finished piece. I m hoping to capture the aha! that originally attracted me to my subject. Each one of my original pastels is done on museum grade sanded pastel paper. I use a variety of brands of soft pastel, each with different characteristics that I use to accomplish a variety of strokes and washes within a piece. ABOUT THE ARTIST A prolific painter and teacher, Marla s artwork and workshops are nationally sought after. Her work has been represented throughout the country for over 30 years. Contributing to many art publications such as Pastel Journal, she is a signature PSA member and an IAPS Master Circle Recipient. Marla graduated from Art Center College of design in Pasadena, Ca. She worked as a commercial illustrator for 25 years. After moving to Oregon in 1993, she was inspired by the beauty of the Willamette Valley and began painting landscapes that blend realism and abstraction that convey a sense of calm and balance. Her Among her numerous awards and honors are Arts for the Parks Annual Juried Exhibition. She has been featured in the Pastel Journal and is included in Pure Color: The Best of Pastel and Sketchbook Confidential II. She is the author of Step by Step Pastel by Walter Foster Publishing. Her paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections throughout the country. While she makes her home in Portland, Oregon, Baggetta travels extensively throughout the United States teaching painting workshops and jurying shows. Marla is a sought after workshop instructor, adept at helping students develop an individual painting style. Baggetta s approach to painting reflects both the formal art education she received at Art Center College of Design and the years of experience that can only be gained from behind the easel. It s a great honor to work with students to pass on some of the knowledge I ve gained from my many great instructors and my own discoveries as a painter. I m a true believer that the fundamentals of painting combined with our individual voices make painting a uniquely satisfying endeavor. As a teacher, I provide a strong base of the fundamentals of painting to guide every student in reaching their unique artistic intentions in a supportive, nurturing and creative environment.
