Quick Installation Guide ARM-X4404 Advanced Radio Modem Before setting the product, please read the following recommendations Do not plug 110 or 220V power supply to the radio modem (Operating voltage: 15-30 Vdc) For your security, the connection of the power supply to the ARM radio modem must be realized power off. Check the module s power supply is cut before all intervention. Do not install directly the ARM radio modem in outdoor. It is not waterproof and if such installation is required it needs to be integrated in a waterproof case or electrical cabinet. When using a metallic electrical cabinet, the antenna must be installed outside. Before connecting or disconnecting the antenna, make sure to discharge to the ground, static electricity as the antenna input is very sensible. Connect the metal DIN rail and consequently the ARM to the ground. If the antenna is fixed to an outdoor pole, the later must be also connected to the ground. A surge protection module must be inserted on the antenna cable, between the antenna and the ARM radio modem. Respect the standards by using only recommended cables and antennas in order to be within the ERP authorized by the regulations (500mW or 27dBm). QIG ARM-X8800uk v1.0 26.02.07 Page 1

2. INSTALLATION 2.a. Antenna We recommend to use our antenna range : ANT868-14S-L (¼ wave antenna): to operate appropriately this antenna needs a metallic ground plan. It can be mounted on a connection cabinet for example or on the roof of a car. ANT868-12S-L (½ wave antenna): it doesn t need a ground plan to operate. It can be installed directly on the polyester slate of a vehicle or on a PVC casing. The ANT868-12FSC version can be directly mounted on the radio modem. The radio wave propagation is highly influenced by the position and the height of the antenna. It is recommended to install the two antennas line of sight (without obstruction between both antennas) and to place the antennas as high as possible. For outdoor long distances, prefer a mast mounting antenna (ANT868-BZ) with low loss cable (CFP10). Try to have the shortest coaxial cable (for example for a 25m CFP10 cable, the loss is about 3dB (that means the ERP is divided by 2). Position of the antenna: It is recommended to install the antenna at a minimum height of 2 m (the farther you want to send information, the higher you must install the antenna). No metallic obstacle within a radius of 1m of the antenna. 2.c Radio channel selection Select a free channel with the coding wheel. If there are several radio devices in the area for different applications, it is recommended to set up a frequency plan : same frequency for all devices operating in the same application. Leave a free channel between the channels of 2 applications. Channel Frequency (MHz) Channel Frequency (MHz) 0 869.800 8 868.425 Max. ERP : 25mW 1 868.075 9 868.475 Duty cycle : 1% 2 868.125 A 868.525 3 868.175 B 869.850 Max. ERP : 5mW 4 868.225 C 869.900 Duty cycle : 100% 5 868.275 D 869.475 Max. ERP : 500mW 6 868.325 E 869.525 Duty cycle : 10% 7 868.375 F 869.575 The output power level depends on the radio channel. The D / E / F channels allow to send information at farthest. For a power of 5 mw you obtain a range up to 1000m, for 25mW a range of 2000m and for 500mW up to 5km in cleared environment (LOS). (These distance ranges are given for information and depend a lot on the environment). Use the maximum emission power only if necessary. 3.
