Introduction of EMC Products-Beads
How Ferrite Beads Work? Bead is a frequency dependent resistor. At low frequencies, inductive impedance is low. At higher frequencies, the impedance increases and becomes resistive function. The resistive loss attenuates the unwanted frequencies through heat dissipating of the bead s ferrite material due to eddy currents.

Common-Mode and Differential Mode Signal Common-Mode Signals: Two signals on a pair of signal lines have the same amplitude and the same direction. Common-mode signals may also appear on single-ended signal lines and ground lines. Differential Mode Signals: Two signals on a pair of (differential) signal lines, have the same amplitude and the opposite direction. Common-mode signals are almost always harmful, such as the common-mode noise coupled from differential signal lines. So many design rules are designed to prevent the emergence of common-mode signals. Differential mode signals generally appear in the differential circuit, and as the data transmission carrier, it is necessary to be retained. So in circuit designing, it is needed to keep the Differential mode signal as much as possible.
Common Mode / Differential Mode Signal Diagram Common-Mode Signals Differential Mode signal Stray capacitance Noise source Stray capacitance Reference ground
Suppression of Common Mode Noise Method of common mode noise suppression (1) Method of common mode noise suppression (2) Common Mode Chokes Coil
Structure of Common Mode Choke Coil Characteristic: For common-mode noise, work as beads; for differential mode signal, work as short lines. The magnetic flux arose from common mode current adds each other and has a greater resistance. Equivalent Circuit The magnetic flux arose from differential mode current subtract each other and has a smaller resistance.
Noise Suppressing of Common Mode Choke Less Waveform distortion Common mode choke is suitable for the circuits which are sensitive to waveform distortion, such as video signal lines. Impedance reducing caused by magnetic saturation will not easily appear even by a large current. Common mode choke is suitable for noise suppression in high current circuits, such as power supply lines of AC/DC.
