ENGINEERING CENTER BENELUX DISCOVER THE OF TOMORROW GLOBAL ENGINEERING PROTOTYPING TESTING INSPIRATION CLEANROOM SERVICE

3 Koen Adams Managing Director Nefab Benelux NEFAB ENGINEERING CENTER BENELUX Nefab operates in 30 countries and offers complete packaging solutions to international companies. We focus on transport packaging and offer engineered solutions that optimize cost and ecological footprint. The Nefab Engineering Center Benelux supports this activity. In one location we group engineering, sales, production and material sourcing. The center accumulates our know-how plus insights and acts as a central place in Nefab for innovation and development. The vision of the Nefab Engineering Center in Eindhoven is to excel in the ability to offer smart, functional and multi-material solutions. The mindset should remain free with no dominance of a specific production nor should any material be preferential in the solutions we create. Our Engineering Center Benelux has been given the mission to support our growth and to materialize our experience and competence. To reach this, we engage to be: A center for multi-material design with the effective need of the customer as key driver for the solution. A creative platform for development and innovation that is always on the move. A central location within Nefab for sharing experience and training Nefab people from all over the world. An environment that leverages on the multicultural influences of our Nefab colleagues who operate in more than 30 countries and serve mainly international customers. SEE IT, HEAR IT, TOUCH IT, SENSE IT The Nefab Engineering Center Benelux facilitates engineering, testing, prototyping, production, cleaning, training and brainstorming in one building. Our engineers meet with our customers and our sales people. All can test, prototype or analyze as they wish. The unique layout of our Engineering Center promotes interaction with each other. This gives a cross fertilization and learning process of a different dimension. That is our drive for new ideas, concepts, materials and solutions. Come and visit us. Sense and experience our capability to create the best packaging solution around your product. Our team is motivated, highly skilled and customer driven! ENGINEERING CLEANROOM PROTOTYPING INSPIRATION TESTING SERVICE

5 DESIGN YOUR TELL US YOUR NEEDS, SHOW US YOUR PRODUCT AND WE WILL DESIGN A COMPLETE SOLUTION When you operate within a broad scope and you offer complete packaging solutions, you need to approach a design request systematically. This is even more vital if you consider cultural differences between regions and countries. The Nefab Engineering Center supports requests from all over the world and deals with a broad range of materials. Our center has developed a systematic approach to develop the right solution for you. FEM analysis, Environmental Life Cycle analysis, Cushion Calculation and specific Costing Models are internally developed tools that our engineers use on a daily basis. All engineering is 3D based and we communicate our concepts and solutions with CAD files and through web-based applications. We can also include an indication of the ecological footprint. Testing (ISTA certified lab) and prototyping go hand in hand with engineering and often a prototype accompanies the presented solution. The Nefab Engineering team is part of a Nefab Global Network of over 120 engineers. This platform groups all solutions and drawings and exchanges people and experts in function of capacity and need. PRODUCT DESIGN Thanks to our extended test capabilities we are able to assist companies in the design or testing of products. This is particularly the case when functionality is more important than design or when product fragility and specific technical requirements are key.

7 PROTOTYPE YOUR WE PRODUCE YOUR PROTOTYPES AND YOUR ORDERS WITH A FLEXIBLE PLANNING Our 3D engineered solutions allow us to easily produce samples on our plotting tables. We operate 2 tables and have a wide range of packaging materials on stock for testing, prototyping and small series production. We produce solutions in wood and metal and are able to manufacture thermoformed packaging solutions in house (from design of tooling to prototype and production). Several other machines are available to rapidly prototype our engineered solutions. In one location we design on the spot, make the prototype. In your presence we immediately test and evaluate the results in the test lab. That is what we call experiencing and it is amazing how well the interaction between customer and engineer becomes in such a setting. This is the strength and the drive of our Engineering Center. SMALL SERIES PRODUCTION Our machinery and production setup allows us to produce small series in foam, corrugated, plastics and wood. We have a wide range of materials on stock, production and prototyping go hand in hand in the same location.

9 WE KNOW WHY AND HOW TO TEST TEST YOUR Testing packaging is a specialization. Every product and industry needs a specific approach and know-how. The understanding of the test standards is critical to serve our diverse customers. We have skilled engineers with more than 20 years of testing experience. They have developed a strong intuition and know-how to interpret the test results. Recent investments in additional test equipment makes our Nefab Engineering Center state of the art and we now have a fully equipped ISTA certified test lab. Some key machines are: 2 vibration tables 2 compression testers A shock table for product testing An incline tester A drop tester A climate chamber In total the lab has over 18 different kinds of test machines. You are always welcome to join our engineers during the tests. In case of failure, design changes can be discussed on the spot. Most other test labs, on the contrary, simply generate a report pass/fail and don t assist in presenting a solution. Buffering solution MTS PRODUCT TESTING Our long experience, mechanical background and understanding of our test equipment allow us to assist companies to test products. This goes beyond testing the packaging and it requires full understanding of the test results. We determine the physical handling limits of your product and predict at what values it breaks or fails. The test report includes suggestions for design improvements and cost savings.

11 DISCOVER YOUR OUR CREATIVE MINDSET RESULTS IN NEW IDEAS AND THE USE OF NEW MATERIALS Our long experience and our engineered solutions for different industries gives us a good base for customized designs. Whether you need a solution in wood, metal, corrugated, plastics or foam, we are familiar with it. On top of this experience we are material neutral. That means that we design with the best material for your application. Our design optimizes the situation for you and it considers ecological values. The different Nefab tools are helping us in our discovery. Our GreenCalc software gives us the carbon footprint of our invented solutions. It guides us in our research for future needs and long-term sustainability. The activity of the Nefab Engineering Center fosters innovation and the use of new materials. Every day new ideas are born and we regularly test new products and production methods that can benefit our customers. Our center is known for this: ideas, new products and suggestions reach us globally from all over Nefab. This is a strong concept and unique in the market. The number of visitors to our Engineering Center inspires and results in countless ideas. It is all about interaction. MULTI- MATERIAL DESIGN The nature of our business and the bundling of experts in different disciplines come together in one Engineering Center and it encourages design with an open mind. We develop what you need and choose existing or new materials that fit your application best. In an intense dialogue with you we consider economic and ecologic factors to optimize the design.

13 CLEAN YOUR WE OPERATE IN AN ISO CLASS 5 CLEANROOM AND CLEAN YOUR Our cleanroom was built to produce a returnable cleanroom packaging for a specific customer. This modular packaging is used globally to connect cleanrooms. The packaging allows to transport clean products from one cleanroom to another with minimum handling and precautions. The Nefab Cleanroom delivers this packaging and services it further during its lifecycle. That includes repairing, preparing it for a new cycle, upgrading and cleaning. Meanwhile our cleanroom activities have expanded. We wet clean industrial parts and tools for specific customers. We produce customized clean PE bags and we pack cleaned products. We kit and specifically pack cleaned products for customers according to their specifications and needs. We develop, produce and sell special cleanroom packaging equipment like handsealers and cleanroom furniture to store packaging or to work on. We sell a range of cleanroom packaging that can be used in cleanrooms up to an ISO class 5 level. The interaction between our cleanroom and engineering has given us a specific competence to develop packaging that is easily cleanable. Our material competence is extensive and we have experience with cleanliness and outgassing characteristics of commonly used packaging materials. PRODUCT CLEANING From cleaning packaging we have evolved to also clean products and pack them. Nefab cleans, packs and labels clean products in accordance with the specifications of the customer. Most commonly cleaned products are tools, instruments, furniture and all kind of products that need to be cleaned before entry in a cleanroom.

15 SERVICE YOUR WE ASSEMBLE, REPAIR, REFURBISH OR KIT YOUR The variety of activities and the specific layout of the Engineering Center give us the possibility to service your packaging. We permanently assemble and clean high-end packaging products. We kit and prepare sophisticated packaging solutions that are shipped in a ready to use condition to customers. Our cleanroom team also refurbishes returned packaging products (test, clean, repack). We have developed specific software (RFID enabled) to support our services and the collected data is available through a web based application. We are capable to support our customers in the management of their packaging and we can independently service your packaging pool. This includes reverse logistics and sorting and repairing your packaging for re-use. The Nefab Engineering Center is our competence center and it interacts and cooperates intensively with the 4 other Nefab locations in the Benelux. This includes a 10000 m 2 logistics platform in Belgium (Ghent) and 3 warehouses in the Netherlands located in north, center and south. KITTING AND ASSEMBLING Nefab has extensive warehouse capabilities connected to the engineering center. That gives opportunities for storing products for JIT supply or assembling to order.
