HELLO PARENTS AND PERFORMERS! Sandbox After School Special INFORMATION The WESTCHESTER SANDBOX THEATRE is thrilled to bring its own brand of theatrical magic BACK to Quaker Ridge School after our first successful year. Our wish is that every student who participates has a fun, terrific experience and even learns something along the way! Our goal is to create an environment where every student can succeed and be a part of a great show. Below is some information that we hope will be helpful to you as you take this journey with us. PETER PAN The classic musical will fly into the auditorium at Quaker Ridge School. All the songs and characters everyone knows and adores will be a part of our show! Songs like I Won t Grow Up, Neverland, I Gotta Crow, and Ugg-A-Wugg will have all our young performers having the time of their lives on stage! 1

ALL ABOUT AUDITIONS Audition can seem like such a scary word. You immediately picture a large room with a bunch of people sitting behind a table looking at you! But have no fear! We aim to make auditions as fun, relaxed, and comfortable as possible. Every performer will be seen by one member of our artistic team in a small, comfortable setting like a classroom. No big stage. No big worry! The important thing to remember about auditions is that we are trying to get to know you. We want to see your personality. So no matter what, be yourself and have fun! That is what it is all about Below you will see that we have broken down the audition process by grade level, so that each performer knows what to expect. We are always happy to answer any questions you might have along the way, so do not be shy. It is always better to ask than to wonder! FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN PERFORMERS! Then, because we want to get to know you a little, we might ask you a question or two about yourself..."what's your favorite thing to do?" or "Who is your favorite character from Peter Pan?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?" And finally, we will take a line that one of the characters say in PETER PAN, something like "Boy, why are you crying?" and give you some instructions on how to act it out! Then you'll get to say that line and act it out for us in your own way. More lines are listed on a sheet available on the above download. 2

FOR OUR FIRST GRADE PERFORMERS! Then, because we want to get to know you a little, we might ask you a question or two about yourself..."what's your favorite thing to do?" or "Who is your favorite character from Peter Pan?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?" And finally, you will have the chance to act out a short speech from PETER PAN. You will get to act it out any way you like to show us how YOU would play the character. You can either read it or we can help you by saying it first with you repeating it back to us. FOR OUR SECOND GRADE PERFORMERS! Then, because we want to get to know you a little, we might ask you a question or two about yourself..."what's your favorite thing to do?" or "Who is your favorite character from Peter Pan?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?" 3

FOR OUR THIRD GRADE PERFORMERS! Then, because we want to see your personality, we might ask you to talk a little about yourself things you like to do, places you like to go, other shows you have been in FOR OUR FOURTH GRADE PERFORMERS! Then, because we want to see your personality, we might ask you to talk a little about yourself things you like to do, places you like to go, other shows you have been in and maybe even what characters you most want to play in PETER PAN! Now, we want to see just how wonderful a performer you are! So, we want you to SING a small Pick a song that is going to best show off your voice and your personality! 4

FOR OUR FIFTH GRADE PERFORMERS! FINAL THOUGHTS We can t stress enough that the most important thing about any of this is to have FUN! We promise that everyone will have a good time doing this show, no matter what role you play. Everyone will get to wear truly fun costumes, sing wonderful famous songs and have a blast doing it! Again, don t hesitate to ask questions! We are always here to help!
