Thank you for purchasing the XPORT Passage 4 Bike Hitch rack. This rack will securely carry up to 4 bicycles. The trigger and lift assist mechanisms allow the rack to tilt up or down allowing easy access to the rear of your vehicle. Please read all instructions for Assembly, Installation, Tilt Operation, and Loading before using your XPORT Hitch rack. otes: 1. Some vehicles, particularly those with a rear mounted spare tire or a recessed hitch, will require the use of the XPORT Hitch Extension sold separately. 2. The minimum vehicle hitch requirement is 2 receiver style rated as Class 1, bolted to the chassis. 3. Bicycles can be locked to the rack and the rack to the vehicle by using the XPORT XCLOSURE II Lock also available separately. Assembly 1. Insert the Upright Tube (A) into the Hitch Foot as shown in Figure 1. Attach the Upright Tube (A) and the foot together with the 2 3 4 Carriage Bolt (E) and Large Lock ut (F) using a 9 16 wrench (See Figure 1). Tighten until snug while still allowing the Upright to pivot in the Hitch foot. K C B 2. Insert the on Threaded Bolt (G) through the S shaped slot in the hitch foot. Make sure that the on Threaded Bolt (G) is lined up with the hole in the internal sleeve inside the Upright Tube (A). (The internal sleeve hole is the one that moves when the trigger is pulled). (See Figure 1). D L A F 3. Lay the Upright Tube and Hitch Foot assembly down on a hard surface (the side with head of the on-threaded Bolt (G) down). Carefully tap the Drive Cap (H) onto the on-threaded Bolt (G) with a hammer. 4. Place the Washer (R) and the Plastic Knob (P) on the threaded rod of the Hitch Foot (O). Thread the Plastic Knob (P) loosely onto the Hitch Foot (O). 5. Attach the two Spring Arms (S) to the Upright Tube (A) with the 3 1 4 Carriage Bolt (Q), both Plastic Spacers (J) and a Large Lock ut (F). See Figure 2. Tighten until snug, while still allowing the Upright Tube (A) to pivot in the Hitch Foot (O). figure 1 H P M R F J S E I G Q O 6. Attach a Bike Tray (B) to the Tray Support Platform (K) using a Cap Screw (C) and Small Lock ut (D). Insert a Cap Screw (C) through one of the small holes in the top of the Bike Tray. Tighten with the 3/16 Hex key while holding the Small Lock ut (D) with the 7 16 wrench under the Tray Support Platform (K). (See Figure 1). 7. Repeat step 6 for the other side of the Bike Tray and for the remaining 3 Bike Trays. (See Figure 1). 2
8. Insert the Tilt Saftey Pin (I) into the Hitch Foot and snap on the Safety Pin Clip (). (See Figure 1). F J A Q 9. Install the Spring Safety Pin (M) into the Upright Tube (A) and snap on the Safety Pin Clip (). (See Figure 1). 10. Make sure that the Sway Arms (L) are installed with the snap buttons protruding through the slots as shown in Figure 3. If not, press the snap button down and slide the sway arm into the correct position allowing the snap button to pop out in the slot. Installation 1. Insert the Hitch Foot (A) into the receiver hitch. If the Hitch Foot (A) does not slide easily into the receiver hitch, loosen the Plastic Knob on the Hitch Foot, and lightly push on the knob until the cam wedge is recessed into the Foot. (See Figure 4). figure 2 2. Align the Hitch Foot pin hole with the pin hole in the receiver hitch. Insert the Safety Pin (I) through the pin hole and snap on the Safety Pin Clip (). L 3. Tighten the Plastic Knob (B) securely to stabilize the rack in the receiver hitch. 4. Double check the tightness of the Plastic Knob (B) after the first 10 minutes of travel and occasionally during a trip. 5. To remove the rack, loosen the Plastic Knob (B), remove the Safety Pin Clip () and Safety Pin (I), and remove the rack from the hitch. If the Rack is difficult to remove from the hitch, unscrew the knob and tap it slightly to recess the cam wedge. Lowering the Rack with 0-2 bikes on the rack 1. Remove the Tilt Safety Pin (I) and Pin Clip () from the Hitch Foot. 2. Remove the Spring Safety Pin (M) and Pin Clip () from the Hitch Foot. M 3. Push forward (towards the vehicle) on the top of the Upright Tube(A) and pull the trigger to disengage the latch. Carefully lower the Upright (A). WARIG: Do not tilt an empty or lightly loaded (1-2 bikes) Upright Tube with the Spring Assist Pin (M) installed. The Upright Tube will rebound rapidly and forcefully without sufficient weight to dampen the spring. Lowering the Rack with 3-4 bikes on the rack figure 5 I 1. Remove the Tilt Safety Pin (I) and Pin Clip () from the Hitch Foot. 2. Leave Spring Assist Pin (M) and Pin Clip () in place on the Upright Tube (A). 3. Push forward (towards the vehicle) at the top of the Upright Tube(A) and pull the trigger to disengage the latch. Carefully lower the Upright Tube (A). (See Figure 6). figure 6 Returning the Rack to Vertical 1. Raise and push forward on the top of the Upright Tube (A) firmly until the latch in the hitch snaps fully into the slot in the foot. You will here an audible click when this happens. 2. Insert the Spring Assist Pin (M) into the Hitch Foot and snap on the Pin Clip (). (See Figure 5). 3. WARIG: Always double check that the Upright Tube is firmly restored to the upright position before loading bicycles or travelling. Check this by pulling back firmly on the Upright Tube (without pulling the trigger). The rack should not move. Loading 1. Rotate the two Sway Arms (L) down to the horizontal position. (See Figure 7). 2. Place the largest bicycle on first and position it closest to the vehicle. Make sure the bicycle is balanced in the Bike Tray (B) before strapping it in place. 3. Thread each strap over the bicycle top tube, through the strap ring, and pull back firmly before attaching the Velcro to hold the bicycle in place. 4. Place successive bicycles on the rack in alternating directions. (See Figure 8). 5. Rotate the Sway Arms up to their vertical position and wrap the bungee cords around the crank arm or the frame to prevent the bicycles from banging against each other. (See Figure 9). figure 8 6.
