Becker Mining Systems Tagging and Tracking in Underground Mining

BECKERTAG System Principle FUNCTIONAL FEATURES Vehicle, Beacon, Personnel Tags Pseudo Random Transmission Unique ID Number Battery Status Monitoring Multiple Antenna Types Multiple Configurations 2

Backbone Communications using Leaky Feeder The Radiating Cable Backbone is ideally suited in the following conditions: Mobile Tag Readers Tipping Points Beacon System Where medium latency is acceptable 3

Backbone Communications using Fiber and Copper The Fiber and Copper Backbone is ideally suited in the following conditions: Fixed Tag Readers Existing Fiber backbone Decline Traffic Information System Redundancy Where very low latency is required 4

Backbone Communications using Wi-Fi and Ethernet The WIFI and Ethernet Backbone is ideally suited in the following conditions: Mobile and/or Fixed Tag Readers Existing Ethernet backbone Where medium latency is acceptable 5

Active Tag Reader The Becker Electronics ATR400 Series Active Tag Reader is specifically designed to receive unique Tag Identification numbers as well as Telemetry Metrics Information radiated from their range of Active Tags. The unit is enclosed in an IP68 enclosure and is ideally suited for installation in the extreme environmental conditions typically encountered in underground mining installations. Power and Communication connections are easily made to the dedicated top printed circuit board via standard 5mm pitch screw terminals. 6

Active Beacon Tag The Becker Electronics Beacon Tag is designed to transmit a unique Tag Identification number using an active radio frequency carrier. The unit is completely self contained and utilizes high reliability Lithium cells for its power source. It is capable of reliable performance within the harsh operating environment typically found in underground mining conditions. The unit is intended to be mounted at a fixed position, transmitting a signal that allows mobile Active Tag Readers to detect it. 7

Active Vehicle Tag The Becker Electronics Active Vehicle Tag is specifically designed to transmit a unique Tag Identification number using an active radio frequency carrier from the metallic body of a vehicle, locomotive, carriage or hopper. The unit is completely self contained and utilizes high reliability lithium cells for its power source. It is capable of reliable performance within the harsh operating environment typically found on underground mining vehicles. The unit is typically bolted to the chassis of the vehicle, preferably in the centre of the vehicle roof, although it has been proven to perform, even when mounted underneath the chassis of a typical underground hopper.

Active Personnel Tag (Self Powered) The Becker Electronics Personnel Tag is designed to transmit a unique Tag Identification number using an active radio frequency carrier. The unit is completely self contained and utilizes a high reliability Lithium cell for its power source. It has a Motion Detect feature built in, that senses if the tag is moving or not. This information is used to reduce the period of Active Tag ID retransmission in order to save battery life. The unit also includes a Battery Status Reporting feature that allows the user to monitor the battery life. This reporting tool indicates the battery life in steps of 200mV, allowing the user to accurately predict and schedule a service of the Lithium battery cell. The custom re-enterable enclosure allows on-site service of the battery. 9

Active Personnel Tag (Powered by Cap Lamp TCT0) The Becker Electronics Cap Lamp Battery Tag is designed to transmit a unique Tag Identification number using an active radio frequency carrier. The unit is intended to be installed inside the cover of the Cap-Lamp Battery, utilizing the battery as its power source. An advanced quadratic loop antenna ensures a consistent and omnidirectional radiation pattern. The electronic components are sealed using conformal coating and a custom ultra sonically sealed enclosure The unit is compatible with the Becker Electronics ATR- 200/300/400/500 series active tag readers, as well as PAS and CAS readers. 10

Active Personnel Tag (Powered by Cap Lamp TCT1) Our new generation Cap Lamp based UHF Transceiver with 802.15 based Wireless MESH capability. Compatible with exisiting tag readers and Collision Avoidance Systems in the field. Includes UHF NBFM Radiating Cable receive functionality and BSCI. 11

Active Tag Communication Interfaces UHF ASK 433.05 to 434.79MHz : High transaction speed & high volume RFID packets. Best modulation format for underground mining multipath environment. Used for backwards compatibility to existing Active Tag Reader equipment. UHF GFSK 865 to 869.65MHz : IEEE 802.15 derived Wireless MESH packets. Used for power efficient Becker Wireless Sensor Networks (BWSN s). Best propagation distance in typical mining tunnel environments. UHF 460 to 480MHz FSK Radiating Cable Data Receiver. Used for Remote Evacuation Signalling (RESS) and general signalling on existing UHF Only mobile backbones. SHF 2.4 to 2.5GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g (s) Wireless MESH packets. Used for RESS, low volume RFID, Connectivity to WiFi Mobile Backbones. 12

CATS Active Display Unit for Active Tag Test Point The CADU100 integrates an industrial grade 17 LCD monitor and a set of 3 solid state LED traffic lights. The status of the traffic light indicators as well as the LCD display content is controlled via long range RS485 serial connectivity, allowing the unit to be deployed at great distances from the controlling PC/PLC. Since the units are individually addressable, multiple CADU s may be controlled from a single multi-drop RS485 connection. Typical applications include the displaying of detail information to personnel and drivers in industrial / mining environments whilst simultaneously providing basic GO/CAUTION/STOP indications. 13

Kit Check Passive Tag Reader Solution A Passive Tag is an RFID tag that does not contain a battery, the power is supplied by the reader. When radio waves from the reader are encountered by a passive RFID tag, the coiled antenna within the tag forms a magnetic field. The tag draws power from it, energizing the circuits in the tag. The tag then sends the information encoded in the tag s memory. The Passive tag is critical in insuring accurate detection of personnel and equipment since the Passive tag can be read only at very short distances. 14

What is CATS / Pantha? The Pantha Suite is the evolution of the original Centralised Asset Tracking Software (CATS) standalone application, consisting of applications that bind various Becker Systems together: Tagging & Tracking Leaky Feeder Diagnostics (RBDA) Remote Evacuation Signaling (RESS) Collision Avoidance (CAS) Decline Traffic Information (DTIS) and more 15
