NAVY ENLISTED OCCUPATIONAL STANDARD FOR NAVAL AIRCREWMEN (HELICOPTER) (AWS) SCOPE OF RATING Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) (AWS) are members of multi-mission helicopter integrated tactical crews; perform Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, Airborne Mine Countermeasure (AMCM) operations utilizing sonar, magnetic, mechanical, and acoustic mine sweeping systems and logistics support; perform aircrew operations administration, flight and ground training, internal and external cargo movement, Medical Evacuations (MEDEVAC), passenger transport, aerial gunnery, small arms handling, Special Operations Forces (SOF) insertion and extraction operations, Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), and Night Vision Device (NVD) operations; and conduct observer duties for safety of flight. This Occupational Standard is to be incorporated in Volume I, Part B, of the Manual of Navy Enlisted Manpower and Personnel Classifications and Occupational Standards (NAVPERS 18068F) in Chapter 12.
