Born: August 4, 1961 Hawaii Lives in Chicago, Illinois Has served 1 years in office and has 2 years left
Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senatefrom 1997 to 2004 Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School
His presidential campaign began in February 2007, and after a close campaign in the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton he defeated Republican nominee John McCain and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009
Obama began his education in Hawaii's public schools then once he was through with his elementary, middle and high school he was enrolled in Columbia University. He majored in political science with a specialization in international relations. Though Obama s Columbia grades fall below the Harvard norm, affirmative action-adjusted black norm at Harvard and then Obama began Harvard Law School in 1988.
When he was at Harvard University, he was able to be elected as the president of the Harvard Law Review. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School.
In 2003 Barack Obama took his knowledge of the law and began to run for the Illinois Senate position and luckily the current Senator had to quit his position because of a sex scandal so then Barack went right up and took his spot.
For the 2008 election, Barack first had to overcome his own personal political running mate who was Hillary Clinton. Once Barack Obama did that then he had to run against his republican opponet, John McCain. During the campaign, John McCain was liked because he was a military man and would know what to do in the war, but at the same time, Barack Obama was liked because he was black and was a very talented speaker. It came down to the last speech and Barack Obama took the crowd and that finished John McCain s hope in being President of the United States of America.

Obama s first year can be taken two different ways, either a success or a failure. Based on the polls that were taken, the citizens of the United States had high hopes for him but by the time his first year was almost up, he had lost a lot of citizens trust. Many things made Obama look bad such as the debt that he walked straight into when he became President. He made the debt even more worse by passing a 800 billion dollar stimulus package. For a short time people were starting to recover from the unemployment s and the poverty but soon another stimulus package had to be passed again which just made our debt even worse again. As of now, Obama is liked but not as much as he was when he had first began office.
It is to early to tell if any of his actions have been failures because he is such a new President but there are some convtroversies. When he was running for office, many people questioned whether or not that he was actually a born U.S. citizen. His mother was American but his father was Nyanza. Another controversy was whether or not he had done drugs. He openly admitted to smoking marijuana by saying that if you grow up in Chicago, you re bound to smoke it whether you want to or not. Another reason why there aren t a lot of controversies is because Barack Obama stayed out of the media and when he decided to run for President, he did is so unexpectedly and fast that no one had enough time to find the flaws in his personal life.
