Welcome to the Yageo MLCC training module. This module will introduce the properties and construction of MLCCs, different MLCC types and their applications, and explain Yageo part number coding rule. 2

Yageo offers the Selection Guide shown on this slide to assist users to choose appropriate products for their applications. As can be seen, there are different series for General Purpose and Special Applications. 3

Follow this decision tree, we start with the application temperature, it is quite simple, only two different ranges. Higher temperature from-55 to 125 degree C, then is the capacitance stability or change rate. For very stable capacitance goes to NPO, others go to X7R. 4

Start with T.C (X5R or X7R), and choose General or Special Application, then consider capacitance and voltage. 5

This table illustrated the Yageo MLCC offering series, key features, segment/application and key specifications Temp. Characteristics, case size, capacitance and working voltage.

This slide provides an MLCC map to enable the designer to review what Yageo MLCC product series corresponds to a given type of application.

Fixed Capacitor can be categorized as film, ceramic, aluminum, glass, mica and electrolytic double layer, etc, Yageo mainly focus on ceramic capacitor. 8

Different types of capacitors can be used in various applications depending on the capacitance and frequency. 9

This chart illustrates the performance comparison between different types of capacitors.

Commodity and high capacitance MLCCs can be used in almost all applications. They are available in case sizes from 01005 to 2220, in capacitances from 0.22 pf to 220μF, and with rated a voltage of 50 V or less.

Yageo s specialty high voltage series capacitors have a voltage rating from 100 V up to 3 kv, and use NPO or X7R materials. Main applications for these capacitors are power supply, networking and lighting.

Ceramic capacitors have very low ESR; the HCV series in particular has high capacitance for storing more energy. Available in chip sizes ranging from 0805 to 2220, the high CV MLCCs have rated voltages from 50 V to 100 V and capacitance values spanning from 1μF to 10μF.

Yageo's SC series MLCCs are certified with TUV/UL criteria such as X1/Y2 and X2/Y3. These MLCCs lead energy to ground, protecting operators and circuit boards from voltage surges. With higher reliability, SC series MLCCs are applied in power supplies for lighting, base station, and several industrial uses.

Yageo s soft termination CS series MLCC with case size from 0402 to 1812, featuring improved resistance to thermal stresses and increased mechanical performance.

Yageo's Hi Q series can effectively reduce the power dissipation of wireless signal. With copper as the inner electrode, Hi Q series MLCCs have extremely low ESR for use in VHF, UHF, and microwave frequency band applications.

The capacitor array, CA series, is four capacitors in one package. Yageo's CA series allows space savings and enhanced manufacturing efficiency. It is available in 0508 (4x0402)/0612 (4x0603) size capacitors (of the same capacitance value) per array.

Yageo's low inductance MLCC effectively suppresses HF noise and reduces ripple voltage on DC lines. The special reverse design improves the ESL of the capacitor which becomes a necessary feature for application in IC packages and modules.

Since ceramic capacitors can generate piezoelectricity, they sometimes will cause acoustic noise with high frequency vibration. Yageo's CN series MLCC, manufactured using an improved powder, can effectively restrain acoustic noise. These MLCCs have excellent DC bias characteristics and are typically used in filter and regulating circuits.

Yageo s industrial grade MLCC can withhold high humidity of 85 / 85% RH, with 100% AOI & SPC monitor to ensure high quality.

Compared to general purpose MLCCs, the AC series are automotive grade qualified with AEC-Q200 criteria to ensure their reliability.

In summary, Yageo has been releasing quality, technologically advanced, multi-layer ceramic capacitors and have many products for the future. They offer many types of capacitance including high voltage, high capacitance, soft termination, high frequency, and ultra small MLCC. Class I, II capacitance differ in many ways including accuracy, efficiency and temperature. Lastly, Yageo s miniaturization is leading to higher, thinner, smaller, shorter designs 23
