About the Product The AMB-1200C controller connects to an AMB-1200A countertop antenna to detect and deactivate low energy security labels. The controller can be mounted horizontally or vertically. CAUTION: The AMB-1200A antenna is not magnetic media safe. Deactivation performance: 97% deactivation on a single-pass Maximum deactivation rate: 1/sec., noncontinuous Low energy label detection range: Up to 20cm (8in) Low energy label deactivation range: Up to 13cm (5in). Internal Features Adjustments to transmit and deactivation fields to correct for different operational environments Remote key switch port Status LED for power on, communication activity, and basic diagnostics. Software configurator used to adjust performance and to troubleshoot problems. Front Panel Features d. Advanced Replacement SD Card: The configuration of the controller is kept on this card. If a replacement controller is required, plug this card into it. e. SERVICE port: This 4-position modular jack provides RS-232 communication to a laptop computer used as a configurator for advanced setup and diagnostics. Rear Panel Features a b c d a. Power: External AC power cord connects here. Power cord length is 183cm (6ft). The cord connects the controller to an AC outlet. The type of cord used depends on the country of use. b. ANTENNA port: Receives the antenna cable. c. RS-485 (Network) ports: These 8-position modular jacks provide RS-485 communication between the deactivator and Sensormatic Smart EAS devices. d. REMOTE port: This 6-position RJ-11 modular jack supports the legacy Sensormatic remote alarm module. Deactivation can be disabled on this port. a. Speaker. a b c d e b. Volume Button: Using a pointed instrument, press this button repeatedly to cycle through the volume levels or to turn the volume off. c. Status LED: For indication of power on/antenna connected (green), antenna disconnected (flashing red), deactivation disabled (green blinking), deactivation (orange blinking), and non-recoverable fault (red). Setup A software configurator is used to setup the controller. The configurator: Installs on a laptop computer that plugs into the SERVICE port. Requires Microsoft Windows XP operating system software on the laptop. Requires Universal Service Configurator 3.0.20 or above. Upon power up, synchronizes the AMB-1200A antenna to the transmitter burst of the detection system. Transmit bursts of any additional AMB-1200A antennas must be within 50µsecs of the transmit burst of the detection system. Synchronization enables the controller to sync its transmission to other nearby EAS systems to prevent their interference during tag detection. The Universal Sync standard (wired sync) is supported on the NETWORK port as either transmit or receive mode, and is set up in the software configurator. LED Indications Status LED. Note: Orange may appear yellow. Green on Orange blinks once Green blinking Red on Off Orange blinking Red blinking Unit ready Deactivation attempted Deactivation disabled Non-recoverable fault No power Detection Antenna disconnected Product Limitations Device Interaction Nearby Devices Deactivation affecting nearby devices. The antenna s deactivation field can affect devices such as credit card and check readers (alone or in keyboards). As a rule, keep these devices at least 30.5cm (12in) from the antenna. If they cannot be moved further away, contact Sensormatic technical support for guidance. Nearby devices affecting deactivation. Computer monitors, TVs, switching power supplies, laptops, and neon displays can affect deactivation. Keep the antenna as far from these devices as possible. Checkout Counters DO NOT place the antenna on top of metal countertops. Also, ferrous metal around the antenna can distort the antenna field and significantly reduce label detection. Always test the performance of the antenna after modifying the counter. Between Deactivators Keep antennas at least 15cm (6in) from each other. Nearby Security Tags Do not place detached hard tags within 30.5cm (12in) of the antenna. Remote Alarm Module (if used) Green on, red off Red blinks once Green blinking One beep Slow beep until a hard tag is removed from the field. Multiple fast beeps Red on Unit ready. Deactivation attempted Deactivation disabled (via Key switch OFF or Configurator ), transmitter disabled, or Controller in detect only mode. The controller attempted to deactivate a label. The controller is in Hard Tag Test mode. Label present in Doublecheck or Detect Mode. Label present in Detect Mode. INSTALLATION GUIDE 3 of 6
Installation IMPORTANT! The controller can be placed horizontally or vertically on a flat surface. The antenna can only be placed horizontally on the countertop. DO NOT place the antenna on a metal countertop. Hardware Setup Equipment Required AMB-1200C controller Ferrite clamp for ZPSTP-RA Remote Alarm Module, if used AMB-1200A tabletop antenna Hard tag (non-deactivateable Ultra Max tag) Ultra Max deactivateable low energy labels. WARNING! Plug the power cord of the controller into an unswitched AC outlet having less than 0.5Vac between neutral and ground. This system is designed to be operated on a power system that includes a protective earth terminal. WARNING! Do not plug or unplug ANY controller cables with power on. WARNING! Ferrous metal in the counter can affect antenna operation. ALWAYS test the antenna before leaving the installation site. WARNING! This device is only intended to be installed as described in the installation guide. WARNING RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! Keep the power cord and antenna cable away from cash drawers and other items whose operation may pinch or otherwise damage them. Failure to do so can damage equipment or injure people nearby. Procedure 1. Ensure the controller is powered off. 2. Place the AMB-1200A antenna on the countertop (see Note below) and plug its cable into the ANTENNA port on the controller. Note: Three other mounting methods are available: Rubber feet: Remove the adhesive liner from each foot. Then affix a foot over each of the six screws on the underside of the antenna. Double-backed adhesive tape: Remove the adhesive liner from one side of each piece of tape. Then affix a piece of tape over each of the six screws on the underside of the antenna. Remove the remaining adhesive liners and affix the antenna to the countertop. Keyhole mounting: Using the template supplied (P/N 8200-2693-01): a. Place the template on the countertop in the intended mounting location. Check the area directly underneath the template for obstructions. Remove the adhesive liner from the template and affix the template to the location. b. Drill four pilot holes at centers marked A. Then thread an M4 or #8 pan head screw into each pilot hole until its head is just high enough to seat fully into the keyhole slot. If routing the cable through the countertop, cut a 31.75mm (1.25in) hole B at center marked C. c. Remove the template and clean the countertop just below it. Position the antenna keyhole slots over the four screws, push down on the antenna, and slide the antenna towards its cable end. Note: Compression between the antenna and countertop is controlled by the height of the screw heads. INSTALLATION GUIDE 4 of 6
3. Plug the power cord of the controller into an unswitched AC outlet having less than 0.5Vac between neutral and ground. Note: While the controller auto-synchronizes (if enabled), the Status LED may briefly blink green and red. Auto-sync can take up to ten seconds. Note: If the Status LED is solid red, replace the controller. Specifications Electrical Voltage input to power supply... 100 240Vac (±10%), 50/60Hz (±5%) AC line current... 1.5Arms max.
