Christmas Story Starters Just one week before Christmas, Santa Claus had started feeling sick. Now it was Christmas Eve and he was feeling worse than ever! Just when the elves were starting to think that they would have to cancel Christmas, Mrs. Claus told everyone she would deliver the presents for Santa It was night time and all the lights in the house were off, except the ones on the Christmas tree. Under the tree sat the toys, ready to come alive and play... All of Santa s reindeer had snuck into the candy room at the North Pole and eaten all the chocolate. They all had stomach aches from eating so many sweets and wouldn t be able to pull the sleigh. Santa Claus will need your help to think of another way to deliver the toys. The elves at the North Pole want to have a break from work and have some fun. They decide they should hold the first ever Elf Olympics. No one would ever believe how crazy things could get! Tiny Tommy was the littlest elf in the North Pole. He was too small to do most of the elf jobs. Tiny Tommy felt like there wasn t anything he could do. He didn t know that Santa had a special job for him that only he could do.

Quick and easy craft ideas Transparent Ornaments Place shavings from crayons between two sheets of waxed paper. Use a warm (not hot!) iron to press them together. Students can then cut out shapes from the paper. Dab the sides with glue and sprinkle with glitter. Glue a black paper outline around the shape before punching a hole in the top to hang. These look beautiful either hanging on a tree or used for a mobile. Candy Cane Reindeers Each child will need: 1 candy cane 2 pipe cleaners (any colour is fine but green and brown look great) 2 googly craft eyes 1 small red pom pom (optional) Wrap the pipe cleaners around the top of the candy cane to make antlers. Glue the two googly eyes on the curved part of the candy cane. Glue the red small pompom on the end of the candy cane to make Rudolph s nose. Stained Glass Stars Each child will need: 1 large star, photocopied onto an overhead projector plastic sheet Various paint colours mixed equally with white craft glue Students paint the plastic star using the paint/glue mix. The glue makes the paint stick to the plastic and once dry, becomes clear. All that remains is the paint, thus making a stained glass window. Cut out the star and stick onto classroom windows. Gorgeous! Quick Ideas Make some Christmas placemats for the end of year class party. Use A3 sized paper and then laminate them so each child can take their creation home. Use potato printing to print Christmas shapes. When the page is dry, shade the background with pencil or chalk. Paint a large piece of paper to represent a mantelpiece, fireplace and bricks. Have each student colour and cut out a stocking with their name on the top. Paste these along the top of the mantelpiece for a classroom display. Santa s legs poking out the bottom of the chimney might be cute too!
