Make a Fortune Teller Hip Scarf Your step-by-step tutorial for making a hip scarf to go with the Fortune Teller Costume. Designed to fit 18-inch dolls. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a hip scarf with coin embellishments. A hip scarf is a great addition to the Fortune Teller Costume pattern: Supplies: To make the Hip Scarf, you will need the following: 4½ by 25 inch piece of lightweight fabric with good drape such as chiffon, polyester crepe, rayon or blends 100 or so small coin decorations. I used this product: http://etsy.me/2wmp1qv Round seed beads in a complementary colour 12 larger accent beads for the ends of the scarf Bead thread Bead needle or needle small enough to fit through your seed beads Scissors or rotary cutter Tailors chalk or similar non-permanent marking method 2

Instructions If you have any difficulty with this tutorial, please don t hesitate to email me at support@kelibudesign.com with any questions you might have. 1. Cut out the attached pattern pieces and join them. Simply line up the triangle of one half of the pattern piece with the triangle on the other pattern piece. Tape them together. 2. Fold your fabric on grain and cut your Hip Scarf out on the fold. 3. Hem your scarf on all edges using your chosen method. You could do a rolled hem, a serged rolled hem or simply fold the edges over twice, press and stitch. 3

6 inches 6 inches 4. On the top edge of the scarf, find the centre and mark it with a pin. Measure out six inches from the centre pins on both sides and mark with a pin. You will not apply coins and beads past this area so that the ends are easier to tie. 5. Thread your needle with bead thread and tie a knot in the end. Pour out your seed beads into a shallow dish or bowl to make them easy to access. Get your coins ready to go. 6. Knot your thread and bring it up from the wrong side of the scarf on the bottom corner of the right side. String 6 seed beads on and two of the bigger round beads. 7. String on a coin and then bring your needle back down through the two bigger round beads only, not the seed beads. 4

8. String on 6 more seed beads and take a small stitch about 3 /8 inch away from where you started. 9. Repeat Steps 6-8 two more times and then knot the thread off and cut. Repeat on the left edge. 10. Bring your needle up from the wrong side of the scarf on the bottom edge at straight down from the right pin marker. String 6 seed beads on and then one of your coins. 11. String another 6 seed beads on and take a small stitch about 3 /8 inch away from where you started. 5

12. Repeat Steps 10 & 11 until you reach the point straight down from the pin marker on the left side of your scarf. Knot off the thread and cut it. 13. Using tailor s chalk or some other nonpermanent marking tool, mark a line 1 ¼ inch above the bottom edge between the two marker pins. 14. Repeat Steps 10 & 11 until you have completed a second row of beads and coins. 15. Mark a line 1 ¼ inch above the second row between the two marker pins. 6

16. Repeat Steps 10 & 11 until you have completed a third row of beads and coins. You ve Finished! 7
