The undermentioned Houses are situate within the Boundaries of the Lower Division of Parish of Llandilofane Civil Parish [or Township] of Llandilofane (pt of) No. of Schedule 35 ROAD, STREET, &c, and No. or NAME of HOUSE No. 2 Upper Village HOUSES: Inhabited 1 NAME and Surname of each Person RELATION to Head of Family CON- DITION Males AGE of Females Rank, Profession, or OCCUPATION WHERE BORN Elizabeth Price Head Wid 66 Pauper Llandilofane Brecon Jane Prytherch Sister Unm 52 General workwoman Do Do Rees Evans Nephew 12 Scholar Do Do Explanation: No. 2 Upper Village was a house called Craig-y-felin in Village. Elizabeth Price, widow of Rees Price (Exhibit 16), was the daughter of William & Ann christened on 20 Sep 1807 (Exhibit 15). Rees Evans was the youngest child of Elizabeth s deceased sister Mary Evans (Exhibits 25 and 26). This census record indicates that Elizabeth Price had an unmarried sister named Jane Prytherch. According to this census record, Jane was born in 1818-1819. However, the age of Elizabeth Price is off by three years (She was only 63), so this may not be the best indication of Jane s age. Application: Although circumstantial evidence shows that Jane Prytherch was close to the family of William & Ann (Exhibits 22 and 28-30), this is the most direct evidence that she was their daughter. There is, however, no record of her being christened. It s possible that she was adopted. There are some indications that she may have been a troubled soul, maybe mentally or physically challenged. She was sometimes called Jane and sometimes Jane Prytherch. She had a daughter out of wedlock (Exhibit 28), but she did not raise the child (Exhibits 29 and 30). The census records are inconsistent as to her age and place of birth. Here is a summary of her census records: Glanrhosen, Cilycwm, Agricultural 1841 Jane 20-24 Carmarthenshire Female Servant 1851 Dderw-fawr, Jane Prytherch 30 House Servant 1861 Dderw-fawr, Jane Prytherch 35 General Servant Craig-y-felin, 1871 Village Jane Prytherch 52 General Workerwoman Noyadd-llwyd, 1881 Yskervechan, Merthyr Jane 63 General Servant Cynog, Breconshire Beiliglas No. 1, General 1891 Jane 71 Village Industry Beiliglas No. 1, 1901 Village Jane 82 Pauper not in Carmarthenshire, Breconshire Merthyr Cynog, Breconshire, Breconshire Merthyr Cynog, Breconshire Merthyr Cynog, Breconshire Merthyr Cynog, Breconshire 10
