Background Malaysia has adopted the resolutions proposed in the Ministerial Conference in a Ministerial Declaration to Get Everyone in The Picture and Regional Action Framework (RAF) for the Decade. 2

Country strategies and achievements on CRVS 1. Improvement on legislation Revision on Birth and Death Registration Act (Act 299) 1957 in 2016. Special provision as to registration of birth and death Births and deaths can be registered at any NRD in Peninsular Malaysia (online system).

Extending the period of birth registration up to 60 days and abolished late birth registration. The extension of the death registration/confirmation of death and post mortem from 12 hours to 7 days.

Country strategies and achievements on CRVS 1. Improvement on legislation (cont.) Combining burial permit with death registration as well as to introduce on line system for this two procedures. National Statistical Review to strengthen DOSM to obtain administrative data from other agencies.

Improvement in service delivery especially on birth and death registration Empowerment of NRD Outreach Program to facilitate and deliver services to the people's doors, especially the rural people in remote areas that are less able in terms of transportation, physical and also income. also determine each citizen has access to basic services ie obtain identification document. Services and facilities in Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) and also Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).

Country strategies and achievements on CRVS 3. Improvements on Cause of Death Statistics To improve Medically Certified Death by using verbal autopsy approach. To increase certification of coders that will improve data quality on Causes of Death.

Country strategies and achievements on CRVS 4. CRVS Digitization a. NRD has setup an integrated system to register births and deaths online at any NRD offices and kiosk in Peninsular Malaysia. It was not necessary that every vital events such birth and death must be register within the area of particular NRD offices

Enhancement of Integrated Online System of Death Registration with Burial Permit Online death reporting at police station and without form. Fast and accurate death status updates. Solve problems dumping unquoted death certificates

Enhancement of myindentity ID Number (Mykad) as the ultimate reference number at all government agencies and this identification information was shared between immigration department, inland revenue board, Police and more than 25 other agencies.

More organized and effective database structure. The digital record kept is accurate and with integrity.
