Effective Performance Life and Warranty The warranty period for 3M Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 is based on field experience and rigorous exposure testing. When the graphics are processed and used according to 3M recommendations, they have a warranty duration as shown in the table below. Actual warranted performance depends on the following: The film is converted and applied by a 3M trained and approved converter/applicator The film is converted using the correct combination of film, ink, primer and adhesive The ink has been dried according to 3M recommendations The substrate has been confirmed as compatible with the film and has been prepared in accordance with 3M recommendations The film is cleaned and maintained according to 3M recommendations The film is deployed in approved applications and environments Warranted Durability Interior vertical and horizontally prone applications 6 years The warranty applies to films that are deployed internally in all applications other than those detailed in Limitations of Use. 3M does not warrant the film for external applications. 3M Commercial Graphics Division products are not tested against automotive manufacturer's specifications and are, therefore, not warranted for use in fabricating graphics for automotive OEM's. Fabrication Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 is suitable for screen printing using 1900 Series and 9800 Series line and 4 colour half tone inks and is also compatible with some digital printing systems, including Scitex Pressjet-W Digital Press with Series 4600 Ink. 8057 Primer is suitable for printing directly onto the dried ink coat. The primer provides both substrate hiding and adhesion promotion properties. For further information on printing for substrate hiding, refer to local Technical Service representative. NB. Care should be taken to ensure that the correct surface (i.e. the print receptor surface) is printed. Also note that as the printing will be on the underside (second surface) of the film, some detail may need to be printed in reverse and the sequence of colour lay down should be considered. Further, for digital processes, ensure that tracking is controlled and static build up is minimised. Adhesive lamination is compatible with most roll laminators. No heat is required. Refer to Instruction Bulletin 4.22.1 for how to apply this laminate. It is imperative that ink is fully dried prior to adhesive lamination. Refer to Instruction Bulletin 4.99.1 on the Printing, Lamination and of Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 and Instruction Bulletin on relevant Ink Series for information on drying and dryness test. Premasking The handling of Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 during the conversion and application processes may in some circumstances be improved by the use of SCPM 44X application tape, on small format graphics and SCPM19 application tape on large format graphics. Shelf Life, Shipping and Storage The shelf life of the film is 2 years. Film should be converted and applied a maximum of 2 years from the date of receipt. Converted film should be applied within 1 year of conversion. The shelf life of the adhesive is 2 years from date of despatch by 3M, when stored in the original carton at 21 C & 50% Relative Humidity. Converted film should be stored flat, in a clean area, protected from moisture and direct sunlight, with ambient temperatures below 38 C. Wrap stacks of cut sheets with polyethylene film and seal with tape to prevent moisture absorption by the liner, which will cause the sheets to curl or ripple. Processed film, if rolled during shipping, must be rolled film side out onto a core of no less than 150mm (6 inches) diameter. This method prevents the graphics and Premask from wrinkling and popping off the liner. Also reference Instruction Bulletin 6.5 For optimum print performance it is important to follow 3M s process recommendations. Refer to your local Technical Service representative for more details. Surface Preparation & For applications where there is a high risk of edge lifting, it may be useful to use an adhesion promoting primer on the substrate around the edge of the graphic - refer to the Instruction Bulletin 4.99.1 on the Printing, Lamination and of 3M Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050. Also reference Instruction Bulletins 5.1, 5.1.1 and 5.5 of Labels While the surface of the Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 is graffiti resistant, it is suitable for the application of small Warning and Instruction labels. To ensure compatibility, it is suggested that any labels are tested on a film sample prior to use. If the adhesion of these Warning and Instruction labels is considered insufficient, then a pre-treatment, such as abrasion or use of an adhesion promoting primer on the localized surface of the Scotchgard Protector Graphic Film 8050 is recommended. For more information, refer to your local 3M Technical Service Representative. Removal Various techniques can be deployed, including the use of heat. Selection of the most appropriate method can depend on the substrate type, the original substrate pre-treatment and any prevailing customer health and safety requirements. Refer to Instruction Bulletins 5.1.1 and 6.5 for further information.
