step Installing Your Rainbow HD Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) Your kit contains the following items needed for connecting your DTA to your TV*: DTA Box Coax Cable Power Adapter Remote Control Batteries HDMI Cable *For customers connecting to a Digital TV, you will not need to use the provided white coax cable. For customers connecting to a Non-Digital TV, you will not need to use the provided black HDMI cable.! If you are missing any of these components, call Rainbow Customer Service: (800) 892-0163 2
step 2 A Connecting to a Digital TV If you purchased your TV less than 10 years ago and have an HDMI port on your TV that connects to the provided HDMI cable, follow these instructions. If your TV does not have an HDMI port, skip this page and refer to, Connecting to a Non-Digital TV. 1. Currently you have a coax cord that runs from your wall outlet to your TV. Unscrew the coax cord from your TV and connect it to the Cable In port on the back of the DTA. 2. Connect the provided black HDMI cord from the HDMI port on the back of the DTA to the HDMI port on your TV. 3. Connect the provided black DTA power adapter from the Power input on the back right of the DTA box to the electrical outlet on a wall closest to your TV. 4. Turn on your TV with your existing TV remote and tune it to the HDMI input. 5. See page 5 and 6 for instructions on pairing and programming your DTA remote. B Connecting to a Non-Digital TV If you purchased your TV more than 10 years ago and have only a coax connection on your TV, follow these instructions. If your TV has an HDMI port, refer back to page 3, Connecting to a Digital TV. 1. Currently you have a coax cord that runs from your wall outlet to your TV. Unscrew the coax cord from your TV and connect it to the Cable In port on the back of the DTA. 2. Connect the provided white coax cord from the To TV port on the back of the DTA to the Cable In, RF In, or ANT connection on your TV. 3. On the back of the DTA, make sure the switch is over to number 3. 4. Connect the provided black DTA power adapter from the Power input on the back right of the DTA box to the electrical outlet on a wall closest to your TV. 5. Turn on your TV with your existing TV remote and turn it to channel 3. 6. See page 5 and 6 for instructions on pairing and programming your DTA remote. step 3 Pairing your Rainbow DTA remote control Pairing your DTA remote to your DTA box Once your DTA is plugged in and your TV and DTA are powered on, you can pair your DTA remote to your DTA box. Pairing the DTA remote to the DTA box will allow you to use all functions of the DTA box, such as the GUIDE and MENU. Your DTA remote will work with your DTA right out of the box. However, there are times when pairing a DTA remote to the DTA is necessary. For example, if you would like to put your DTA behind your TV (out of line of sight of the remote), you will need to pair the remote to the DTA. Customers also need to pair the remote to the DTA if they have several TVs that are close together to eliminate changing the channel on the wrong TV. 1. Put provided AA batteries in the remote. 2. Point remote at DTA. < 3. Press and hold SETUP until the LED at the top of the remote blinks twice and then press MENU 4. LED will blink continuously until paired. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete pairing. 5
step 4 Programming your Rainbow DTA remote control Programming your DTA remote to your TV Once your remote control is paired to your DTA, you can program your DTA remote to your TV. Programming your DTA remote will allow you to turn your TV on and off, switch the channel as well as change the volume. TV ON < 1. Point remote at TV. (Make sure TV is on). 2. Press and hold SETUP until the LED at the top of the remote blinks twice. 3. Press and hold OK/ENTER key.! 4. Release OK/ENTER key when TV turns off. DTA Troubleshooting My DTA won t power on. Make sure your DTA box is plugged into an electrical outlet. If using a power strip, ensure that the power strip is turned on. I have no picture on my TV. If you re using a Digital-TV you need to ensure your TV is on the correct HDMI input. If you re using a Non-Digital TV you need to ensure that the switch on the back of your DTA is to channel 3 and that your TV is tuned to channel 3. How do I change my TV input? To change your TV input, press the Input or Source button on your TV remote. What does pairing a remote mean? Pairing a remote is another term for programming your remote. My DTA is plugged in correct but my picture is frozen. Power cycle your DTA by unplugging the power adapter from the back of the DTA. Wait three minutes and plug it back in. If the picture is still frozen, check the batteries in your remote. How long does it take the guide to load on my DTA? The guide can take 20-30 minutes to load. Every time I change something on the TV in one room, it changes the channel on the TV in the other room. The DTA remote needs to be paired to the DTA box. Refer to the instructions on page 5 for Pairing your DTA remote with your DTA box. My picture has black bars across the side and bottom. On your DTA remote: 1. Click MENU 2. Scroll to Set Up 3. Select 1080 Wide (This only works for customers using a Digital TV.) My guide only shows programming 11-16 hours in advance. I want to see what is on tomorrow. DTA guides only show limited programming on the guide. If you would like to see additional programming, you can upgrade to a digital receiver or a DVR. Customers can also visit the TV Guide website for a full programming guide. 8
How do I set up parental controls? 1. Press MENU on your DTA remote. 2. Select the Parental Control on the menu options. 3. Create a 4 digit pin. Using your DTA remote, key in a 4 digit code that you will remember. 4. Confirm 4 digit code by reentering it with your DTA remote. 5. Set parental controls by certain channels, movie ratings, TV ratings. In addition you can hide TV titles and descriptions of adult-oriented programming. How do I change my screen resolution? 1. Press MENU on your DTA remote. 2. Scroll down to HDMI Setup The HDMI setup will default to auto but it can be switched to 1080i normal, 1080i wide, 720p normal, 720p wide, 480p (16:9), 480p (4:3) and 480i. How do I turn on closed captioning? There are two options for closed captioning, auto and custom. Auto will let your DTA box decide the closed captioning options, where custom allows you to set them yourself. You can change the font size, font color and font opacity. To turn on closed captioning: 1. Press MENU on your DTA remote. 2. Scroll down to closed captioning 3. Select your preference in closed captioning options.!
