Creating a coour that matches a referenced vaue in RoandVersaWorks under Iustrator On www.hexis-graphics.com/en, HEXIS provide you with free-downoad profies for your printing media and your «machine» configurations (printer-ink-coours and RIP). A media profie contains: Certain printer parameters adapted to the media, ike heating temperature, suction, etc. A caibration of ink quantities appied to the printing media which aows optima use of the ink consumption whie maintaining the argest possibe reproducibe range of coours. An ICC profie which characterises the coorimetric response of the printing system. What to expect from this media profie? A support profie optimises the printing quaity on a media to accuratey print coours and to contro the quantity of inks used. Caution! A media profie is ony vaid for a given printing configuration RIP - Printer - Ink - Printing mode. Certain media-reated printer settings cannot be incuded in the media profie. It is imperative to reaise them to obtain a nice printing quaity (feed caibration, bidirectiona adjustment). See Product Buetin No.2. The profies downoadabe from our website are caed «generic» because they were not reaised directy on your printer. Even for an identica mode, there are differences from one printer to another. For greater coorimetric accuracy, the profie must be reaised directy on your printer, or at east be reinearised. Product Buetins being aready avaiabe: FPT.IMN.001: How to carry out quaity prints on your HEXIS digita printing media FPT.IMN.002: Setting up your printers according to your HEXIS media FPT.IMN.003: Introduction to coour management Assistance contact: assistance@hexis.fr Printing Division contact: profis@hexis.fr 1/17

2.1.2. PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 Seecting the printing mode Seect the resoution, printing direction and number of runs according to your printing constraints, as we as productivity and quaity needs. Resoution Advantages Disadvantages Limited coour range Poor quaity of fat tints Low detai accuracy Poor printing stabiity Low Maximum coour range High quaity of fat tints Detai accuracy High printing stabiity High Number of runs Higher printing speed High quaity of fat tints Accuracy of the coorimetric rendering Drying time more adapted Printing direction Advantages Unidirectiona Bidirectiona Printing in 720x1440 Disadvantages Poor quaity of fat tints Limited coour range Lower printing speed Printing in six runs Printing in tweve runs Disadvantages Detai accuracy (text, etc.) High quaity of fat tints Drying time more adapted Printing speed approximatey divided by 2 High printing speed Require a precise bidirectiona aignment of the heads Sensitivity to media bucking Quaity amost aways ower than that of the unidirectiona one Printing in 540x720 High ink consumption Low printing speed Advantages Few Many High printing speed Low ink consumption Unidirectiona printing Bidirectiona printing A ow-quaity fast printing wi further promote the appearance and perception of defects reated to the state and setting of the machine (cogged nozzes, bad print heads aignment, etc.) than a high-quaity sow printing. 6/17

HEXIS PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 2.1.3. Configuring the input ICC profies and coorimetric rendering Cick the «Properties» button in the «Coour Management» frame to seect the input ICC profies and coorimetric rendering intents according to your work habits. By defaut, HEXIS recommend to use the srgb in RVB and CoatedFOGRA39 in CMJN because these are the most current standard profies. In the «Matching Method» heading, HEXIS further recommend to print with the «perceptua» rendering intent. As the input ICC profie «CoatedFOGRA39» is not avaiabe by defaut in RoandVersaWorks, you can add it by foowing the indications presented beow: 1. Cose RoandVersaWorks. 2. Open the HEXIS website: http://www.hexis-graphics.com. 3. Under the «Professionas» tab, seect «ICC Profies». 4. Cick the «ICC Base Profies» tab to downoad this profie. 5. Open the «Workstation» window, then cick twice on your «oca disk C:». 6. Enter the foowing fie path: C:\Program Fies \Roand VersaWorks\Profies. 7. Insert (copy/paste) the CoatedFOGRA39 fie in the «CMYK» foder. 8. Restart RoandVersaWorks. 7/17

HEXIS PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 Additiona options When configuring the input ICC profies, RoandVersaWorks presents two additiona options: Function «Preserve Primary Coours» When this box is checked, each pure CMJN coour in your fie is excuded from the coorimetric ICC conversion. Exampe: A 70 % back wi be printed ony with back ink, a 30 % yeow ony with yeow ink. This can be particuary usefu for deicate etterings and barcodes when you want to avoid ags between cyan, magenta, yeow and back. Function «Use the integrated ICC profie» Check the case «Use the integrated ICC profie» in order to preserve the input profie contained in the origina image to the detriment of the settings carried out in the «Simuation Target Profies» section. The advantage of this too is to preserve the coorimetry of the origina image by avoiding an erroneous interpretation of the numerica vaues of the fie. For more information on these options, pease refer to the Product Buetin No.3: «Introduction to coour management». 2.2. «Machine» settings Some printer settings can be controed at the RIP eve. You can choose which settings are used: those set on the printer or those originated from the media profie; otherwise you can directy customise them. Cick the button. The printer setting vaues on this window (feed, suction, heating temperature, etc.) can be changed, by checking the «Use Custom Settings» command. When printing, the entered data wi be taken into account for the benefit of those originated directy from the machine. 2.2.1. Feed Caibration Contro Since the feed vaue is different at the beginning and at the end of the ro, HEXIS recommend to caibrate this setting directy on your machine, and to seect the «Use Printer Setting» function. 2.2.2. Heater Contro When downoading the media profie on the HEXIS website, the temperatures corresponding to the media are entered. HEXIS recommend using the heating temperatures of the profie, by seecting the «Use Defaut Media Settings» command. However, these temperatures can be modified by the user depending on the surrounding temperature and humidity conditions. 8/17

HEXIS PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 For more information on the printer caibration, pease refer to the technica data sheet no.2: «Setting up your printers according to your HEXIS media». 2.3. Using spot coours Cick the button. Spot coours are used to print the coours of an image reated to ibraries (Pantone, Ra, etc.) coorimetricay as cose as possibe. 9/17

PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 To activate this option and the printing of the referenced coours on your image in spot coours, check the case «Convert Spot Coour» under the «Fie Format» tab and seect the «absoute» matching method. For more information, pease refer to the Product Buetin No.3: «Introduction to coour management». The setting carried out above wi be appied by defaut to any image inserted in the queue. When using another HEXIS printing media for exampe, you can easiy change the media profie in the Quaity section, and adapt the resoution, number of runs and printing direction according to your printing purposes. 3. How to print Pantone, Ra or HEXIS coours. Some ibraries are aready embedded in RoandVersaWorks, but other ones can be added. 3.3.1. Importing the HEXIS coour ibrary into RoandVersaWorks 1. Go to the HEXIS website: http://www.hexis-graphics.com. 2. Under the «Professionas» tab, seect «Coour Paettes». 10/17

PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 8. Seect «Suptac ibrary» for exampe, then cick OK. 9. Check if the Suptac ibrary is taken into account. 3.3.2. Creating a coour ibrary in RoandVersaWorks 1. Cick the Edit tab. 2. Seect «Spot Coour Setting». 12/17

PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 3. Cick «Create New Library». 4. Name the ibrary, and seect the Lab setting. Press OK. 5. Cick «Create New Spot Coour». 13/17

PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 6. Enter the Lab vaues of your coour. Measure the reference coour to be reproduced using a spectrophotometer. 7. Cick «OK». 3.3.3. Creating a coour that matches a referenced vaue in RoandVersaWorks under Iustrator 1. Seect the image. 14/17

HEXIS PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 2. Cick the «New Swatch» button. 3. Enter exacty the same swatch name than that in RVW. 4. Seect «Spot Coour». 5. Reference the LAB vaues matching the desired visuaisation coour. 6. Cick «OK». 7. Save the fie. 8. Open the image in RoandVersaWorks. 15/17

PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 9. Doube-cick the image. 10. Open the «Fie Format» tab. 11. Check if the coour is taken into account. 16/17

HEXIS PRINTING DIVISION Product Buetin N 4 12. Cick the «Detais» button to contro the printing accuracy of your spot coours using Deta E. Deta E is a vaue which expresses the coour ag perceived between two cooured swatches. The smaer the dispayed vaue, the ower the coour difference perceived between the two swatches. Deta E Vaue de<1 1<dE<2.5 de>2.5 Correspondence between two coours very cose acceptabe distanced Some spot coours are not printabe by your machine (outside the gamut). For exampe, the Deta E Vaue shown here is 43.1. This means that the printed coour using the above setting wi be different from the referenced coour. 17/17
