Through My Lens ~ Available as 1 hour, 2 hour or 3 hour talk/discussion ~ In this presentation you will see a selection of the best digital images that I have captured in the last 10 years. I will discuss the salient points of each image, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about each one. We will look at photographs of animals, birds, nature, landscapes, cityscapes, HDRIs, infrareds, and many others. Through this presentation I hope to encourage you in your own photographic endeavors with images that will inspire and challenge you. See some of Jeff s latest work in the Gallery section of: Come and enjoy some creative images and find out how and where they were created!

Total Fitness Workout ~ Available as 2 hour or half day workshop ~ Are you stuck in a rut with your photography? Would you like to get some ideas about how to improve your image making skills? We will look at some exercises you can practice that will expand your creativity and strengthen your repertoire of skills. Learn some techniques and procedures that will enable you to quickly improve your pictures and communicate with more visual impact. This presentation will cover two sets of exercises: the first one is designed to help you increase your compositional and aesthetic skills, and the second one will cover the technical controls you should incorporate into your artistic vision. Come and energize your creative side!

A Tutorial on HDRI (High Dynamic Range Imaging) ~ Available as 2 hour, half day or full day workshop ~ If you have ever photographed a high contrast scene, you know that selecting the correct exposure means compromising either the bright highlights or the dark shadows without being able to capture either end of the scale for maximum visual effect. Enter HDRI as a solution to the problem! High dynamic range imaging (HDRI for short) is a set of techniques that allow a far greater dynamic range of exposure than normal digital imaging techniques. The aim is to accurately represent the wide spectrum of intensity levels found in everyday scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to deepest shadows, by means of multiple exposures layered together. An HDR image offers the advantage of much greater dynamic range making it possible to capture both the brightest and darkest parts of an image without sacrificing one for the other. In this tutorial you will learn how to capture HDR images on your digital camera. You will find out how to process these images in Photoshop and PhotoMatix to create stunning prints. Many examples will be shown, and appropriate subjects for HDRI techniques will be discussed. See some of Jeff's HDR images here: then navigate to the Gallery http://psa newmember.org/firstyearhappenings/hdr_photography.html Come and find out how you can make stunning HDR images yourself!

Gadgets & Gizmos ~ Available as a half day or full day workshop ~ This fun tutorial/demonstration is about how I set about to shoot some of my more creative images and covers the equipment selection and use. The program starts with the tools I use for doing the research before a shoot, continues on with the equipment and settings used during the shoot, and finishes with some processing suggestions and demonstrations. You will enjoy quite a lot of practical demonstrations such as setting up the camera and displaying the live view image on the digital projector. Do you use a smartphone or tablet to wirelessly control the camera? Have you seen a pole in use? We will also look at the apps for automatic control of the camera like Triggertrap, ioshutter, DSLR Controller, CamRanger and Promote Control. We will look at how you can automatically shoot images by breaking a beam or by sound triggering, not to mention auto time lapse, star trails, bulb exposures and HDR sequences. Learn how Gadgets and Gizmos can strengthen your creative photography! All of these workshops include demonstrations of the photographic techniques and equipment, the image workflow in Photoshop, and any specialist software required. There are plenty of examples used to illustrate concepts and many opportunities to get answers to all of your questions! I really enjoy working with photographers of all ability levels.

Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) ~ Available as 2 hour or half day workshop ~ ACR is built into all recent versions of Photoshop CS/CC, Photoshop Elements and Lightroom. It is arguably the best Camera Raw File processor available. In this tutorial I will cover how to extract the best quality image out of your raw file. We will cover the workflow and some of the advanced tools available. I will spend some time answering your questions and if time allows tackling some of your image problems.

Photoshop Layers 101 Tutorial ~ Available as 2 hour or half day workshop ~ Have you ever used Layers in Photoshop? If not you are seriously missing out on the most powerful feature of image editing. In this tutorial we will look at the concept of layers, how and what to use them for. We will learn the most important features and controls while seeing examples of how they can be used in image editing. This tutorial can be conducted in Photoshop CS/CC or in Photoshop Elements

Light Painting ~ Creatively Painting with Light ~ Available as 2 hour or half day and evening workshop ~ We will start in the club room with some light tool construction, then test and practice the techniques of painting with light. Next we move on to discuss the camera settings and capture techniques required. If time allows and we are not out shooting we follow up with a Photoshop session where image processing and composite techniques will be practiced. After the break or after the meeting we can optionally all go out to a dark and (maybe) interesting location to paint some winners! It could be just the camera club car park or a local park (ponds, canals and rivers are good for reflections). Example images here: /workshops/elm/lp/ Light painting is really fun but please do expect perhaps a later night ; )

Improving Your Landscape Photography ~ Available as 2 hour, half day or full day workshop ~ You would think that landscape photography should be easy. You are in a gorgeous location and the sun is shining on a wonderful scene in front of you. You grab the camera, fit your wide angle lens, and set out to capture a great image. But when you get home and view your image, you wonder why the result you got does not match the great experience you had. In this tutorial you will learn what you can do to photograph the landscape at its very best. It will also cover the ways you can capture the atmosphere and convey the emotion of these great scenes. Many examples will be shown to inspire and challenge you. Technical issues, composition, and aesthetics will also be fully discussed. Come and find out how you can produce stunning landscape images yourself!

Photographic Composition ~ Available as 2 hour, half day or full day workshop ~ Learn the basic skills of photographic composition in order to elevate an ordinary shot to an extraordinary one. This class is about looking, not just seeing! How you compose a photograph can determine what your image communicates. This tutorial will help you bring together subjects, lighting, colour, depth of field, focal length, camera angle, and design elements to produce images that make powerful statements. Explore the options of framing, subject placement, use of space, and incorporating design elements into all your photographs of people, places or things. We will consider perspective, mood, feelings, emotion, impact, message and storytelling in images. If you know your camera controls and have mastered the technique of getting a clear, wellexposed photograph but want to take the next step by turning your pictures into images, then this tutorial is for you.

A Tutorial on Digital Panoramic Photography ~ Available as 2 hour, half day or full day workshop ~ In this presentation we will examine ways to capture creative digital panoramic images by viewing many examples of them, some taken by simply rotating the camera on a tripod, others with a special "nodal point" accessory. I will also demonstrate the equipment I use to capture panoramas. We will examine some of the special software and hardware tools to help you create stunning panoramic images, and we will discuss the optimal camera settings that allow you to easily and seamlessly stitch images. There will also be demonstrations of Photoshop and specialist programs for stitching panoramas. Printing options will also be explored. See some of Jeff's panoramas here: then navigate to Gallery 1 Panoramas Come and find out how you can make stunning stitched panoramas yourself!

A Tutorial on Digital Infrared Photography ~ Available as 2 hour, half day or full day workshop ~ Infrared can be a dreamy, fantasy world of bright white fluffy clouds, jet black skies and water, and snow white vegetation. It is almost like stepping onto another planet during a magnificent spring day into a radiant, airy, serene dreamscape! In this presentation you will find out what you need to know to get great infrared images with digital tools. We will examine ways to capture creative infrared images and see many examples, some taken with a filter on a normal digital camera, others captured with a specially modified camera. Digital camera modifications will be covered, and modified cameras will be shown. There will also be a Photoshop demonstration of the workflow used to process Raw files of both monochrome and false colour digital infrared images. See some of Jeff's infrared images here: then navigate to the Gallery http://psa newmember.org/firstyearhappenings/digital_infrared.html Come and find out how you can make stunning infrared images yourself!
