Stabilize fabrics, except fabric for piping, with spray starch or a starch alternative such Best Press Starch Alternative. Follow cutting and piecing instructions in How to Sew a Simple Tree Skirt Guide, with these modifications: - After cutting out the fabric in step 2, stabilize entire tree skirt top. - Embroider; then remove excess tear-away stabilizer according to stabilizer instructions. Use Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer in conjunction with Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer. First, stabilize the entire wrong side of the tree skirt top fabric with Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer. Next, use the Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer rather than hooping the fabric. Simply hoop the stabilizer and adhere the fabric to the sticky area of the stabilizer. Economize by using stabilizer on a roll. Instead of cutting the stabilizer to the size of the hoop, keep the stabilizer on the roll when you hoop. After embroidering the first section, carefully tear away the fabric from the stabilizer. Give the stabilizer a quick press to smooth out the wrinkles from the first hooping. Then rehoop the next section of stabilizer and continue embroidering. The following pages picture seven embroidered scenes, plus optional word and snowflake additions. Each scene indicates the order in which the various designs making up that grouping should be stitched. In each instance, start with background designs and work toward foreground designs. Some designs are embroidered over portions of other designs. To determine placement of the scenes, divide the skirt into seven sections. Print templates for each of the designs, arrange scenes with templates and embroider. Note: Although you can use conventional printer paper to print templates, printing on Translucent Foundation Paper allows you to see through the paper, making it easier to position designs. Optional embroidered additions: - Embroider word designs Let It Snow and Winter Wonderland alternating in between scenes. - Embroider snowflakes in and around scenes and words, as well as above, as desired. When embroidering on dark fabric or when stitching one design on top of another, you may find that the fabric or the stitching underneath shows through the embroidery. We recommend using White Stabilize It! Permanent Topping Stabilizer to prevent those stitching issues. With the exception of the snowflakes, position topping stabilizer before stitching each design. 2012 Nancy s Notions ; 333 Beichl Ave., PO Box 683; Beaver Dam WI 53916-0683
Layout and Modifications The guides on the following pages indicate which designs were used, where those designs were placed on the tree skirt, and how the designs were modified (resized, rotated, mirror imaged, and/or thread colors modified from those indicated with the designs), as well as the design stitching order. If thread colors are not listed, use the colors specified on the color chart included on the CD. = Degrees to rotate left = Degrees to rotate right = Mirror image horizontally % * = Percentage to resize design = Modified thread color Scene 7 Scene 1 Scene 6 Scene 2 Scene 5 Scene 3 Scene 4
