MARYLAND 4-H HORSE JAMBOREE July 7-9, 2017 Patuxent River 4-H Center Arts & Crafts Contest GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION 1. The Arts & Crafts Contest is open to all 4-Hers registered to attend Horse Jamboree, in both the residential (overnight) and non-residential (not staying overnight/saturday only) tracks. 2. Entries must be related to HORSES or the 4-H Horse project. Items that do not have a clear equine connection will be disqualified. 3. Entries must be the work of the 4-Her submitting them to the contest. The entry must have been made/completed within the past 12 months (July 2016 - July 2017). 4. Entries must be clearly marked with the Exhibitor s name, 4-H age, county and phone number. Identification should be on the back or underside of items, or otherwise securely attached to the exhibit. 5. 4-Hers may submit one entry per class. 6. Classes will be divided by age group (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) for judging. Each entry will be judged on its own merit and ribbons will be awarded according to the Danish system (blue, red white). 7. Champion and Reserve Champion for each age group will be awarded in each Division. 8. Entries will be submitted by 4-Hers when they arrive for Jamboree (Friday afternoon or Saturday morning). 4-Hers should know what Division and Class to enter their items in upon check-in (review the attached class list and entry form). 4-Hers attending the full Jamboree will enter their exhibits on Friday afternoon at check-in. 4-Hers attending only Saturday Jamboree events will enter their exhibits on Saturday morning at check-in. All exhibits MUST be present and checked in by 9:00 am on Saturday morning. Exhibits will not be accepted after that time. 9. Paintings, drawings, posters, graphics, and photos must be ready to hang. Framing is not required. Items framed with glass will NOT be accepted, for safety reasons. See Division rules for more information about preparation and display of exhibits. 10. Entries will be displayed on throughout Jamboree. Judging will take place on Saturday morning and ribbons will be displayed with exhibits. 11. 4-Hers must take their exhibits with them when departing Horse Jamboree on Saturday evening (for one-day attendees) or Sunday. Exhibits not claimed by noon on Sunday may not be returned. 12. All reasonable efforts will be made to safeguard exhibits. However, contest and Horse Jamboree organizers will not be responsible for lost or damaged items. DIVISIONS Clothing & Textiles Crafts Fine Arts Photography Visual Arts

ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW DIVISIONS AND CLASSES Division A: Clothing & Textiles Garments must be appropriate for people (not dolls or animals). Items can be decorative or useful. Garments should be on a hanger and ready to display. A1 Sewn Garment Shirt sewn by 4-Her to wear while showing horse A2 Sewn Accessory Tote bag sewn to carry horse gear Scarf made of horse print fabric A3 Sewn Horse Item Saddle pad or bridle bag sewn by 4-Her A4 Decorated Garment Sewn or purchased garment that 4-Her has personalized with paint, beads, jewels, rhinestones, patches, etc Division B: Crafts Items can be made of any medium appropriate to the class. B1 Nature Craft Horse made of pinecone; rock painted to look like horse B2 Fiber Craft Ribbon hair bows to wear while showing; horse-themed string art; braided nylon cord fun reins B3 Clay Craft or Ceramics Horse-shaped painted ceramic; hand-built clay horse B4 Paper Craft Decorated scrapbook page; handmade greeting card B5 Notions Craft Horse-themed jewelry; horse made of buttons B6 Needlework Cross-stitch, embroidery, punch embroidery, etc B7 Floral Craft Wreath, arrangement, centerpiece, etc made with silk or real flowers, horse-themed arrangement B8 Misc Craft Papier mache horse, suncatcher, decoupaged item, barn made from popsicle sticks, etc (Any type of craft that does not fit in a class listed above) Division C: Fine Arts Entries must be original works of art. No cartoon or copyrighted characters, figures, logos, etc may be used. Drawings and paintings must be no smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches and no larger than 24 x 24 inches. No paint by numbers, scratch art kits, etc. Works must be mounted on sturdy backing; matting is encouraged but not required. Framed artwork with glass cover will not be accepted. All entries must be ready to hang. Division D: Photography Photographs must be no smaller than 5 x 7 inches and no larger than 24 x 24 inches in size. Photos may be color or black and white. Entries must be mounted on sturdy backing or matted; they should NOT be framed. Photos for sequence and story classes must be mounted on the same board. Photos must have been taken by the 4-Her (they cannot be the subject of the photo). Posters may be of any medium and may be oriented horizontally or vertically. Graphics must be created using a computer program and must be printed. Graphics must be no smaller than 8 x 10 inches and no larger than 11 x 14 inches, and must be mounted on sturdy backing or matted. Entries should NOT be framed.
