INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing a Pro-Cut On Car Lathe. Your lathe should provide you with years of safe duty when properly used and maintained. This is the safety and specification manual for all models of Pro-Cut On-Car Brake Lathe. This document as well as the accompanying Owner s Manual are to accompany all new lathes. Copies of these manuals can also be obtained by contacting your local Pro-Cut lathe distributor. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 3

GENERAL This Safety Manual and the accompanying Owner s Manual should be kept in a safe place for future reference. They have been written for the lathe operators who must read and fully understand them before using the Pro-Cut lathes. Reading and understanding of both of these manuals provides a minimum of training in the use of Pro-Cut On-Car Lathes. If you require further training, or re-training, please contact your local Pro-Cut Lathe distributor who will be happy to assist you with ongoing training needs. Pro-Cut International and its associated distributors decline any responsibility for any breakdown, damage or injury caused by non-observance of the instructions contained within the Safety and Owner s Manuals. Read and understand all manuals before using this machine. Failure to do so may cause harm, injury or death to operators or others. Only trained maintenance staff should service this lathe. Improper service can lead to an increase in danger or harm, injury or death to the operator or others. PG / 008 800.543.6618

SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS REGARDING THE USE OF YOUR LATHE. (continued) Do not use this machine below floor or grade level or in an atmosphere with any explosive gas. This machine creates electrical arcs and sparks and may cause an explosion. No loose clothing or hair. When turned on, this lathe has exposed rotating components. Long hair or loose clothing could become entangled and cause injury or death. Do not wear loose clothing or long hair when using this lathe. Do not remove guards or covers. This lathe contains several guards and covers. These guards and covers are there to protect the operator from hazards underneath. Do not remove any guard or cover. Do not operate the lathe with any guard or cover removed. If the lathe requires service, contact authorized service personnel through your Pro-Cut distributor. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 009

Use eye protection. During operation this lathe generates flying dust and debris. Do not use compressed air to clean the lathe as this can propel brake dust and create a hazard for the operator or those nearby. Safety glasses help protect your eyesight from these hazards. Do not touch any moving part. Contact with rotating parts can cause many types of injury or even death. Keep all body parts clear of rotating parts. If you need to access something near a rotating part, switch off the lathe first. PG / 10 800.543.6618

SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS REGARDING THE USE OF YOUR LATHE. (continued) Inspect all electrical connections before using lathe. Prior to using this lathe: Check that all cords are free from damage and that all insulation is intact. Do not use a cord with cut or damaged insulation.. Replace cord if damaged. Check that all cords are fully seated in their sockets. Seat cord firmly in socket if it is loose. Do not disable they machinery/earth grounding pin on the cord. Do not use with a wall socket without earth ground. Do not use any cord or adapter which would eliminate the connection to earth ground. Electricity can kill! Use caution when moving the lathe and trolley around the shop. Your shop area should be level and free of obstruction. Move the lathe and trolley slowly, being certain not to jam the wheels on such things as hoses, cords or open grates. Do keep all vehicle adapters attached to the base of your trolley when not in use. Do put the lathe in the lowest position prior to moving it around the shop. Do not use in a shop without a smooth, level floor surface. If the lathe topples it can cause property damage or injury, possibly death. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 11

SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS REGARDING THE USE OF YOUR LATHE. (continued) Never use lathe without the accompanying trolley. The lathe and trolley are a unified system. The trolley is designed to safely support your lathe and to prevent it from rotating during the cutting procedure. Use of a lathe without the accompanying trolley can cause harm to the equipment, the operator or those nearby. Always use the lathe on vehicles that have been properly hoisted and supported. This lathe is meant for use in professional automotive repair facilities with fixed hoists. The lathe puts forces on a vehicle which could cause the vehicle to shift, topple or fall down if not properly supported. Serious injury or death could result. Do not move the lift or hoist up or down with the lathe attached to the vehicle. Lifting up may cause the trolley wheels to come off the ground, or reduce their ability to react to torque from the lathe. This may cause a condition where the lathe and trolley rotate quickly and violently when the lathe is switched on. Moving the lift down may put excess pressure on the lathe components, causing extensive damage to the lathe and trolley when compressed by vehicle weight. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 13

Never use lathe without the accompanying trolley. SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS REGARDING THE USE OF YOUR LATHE. (continued) Do not manually lift the lathe past the limit of the trolley gas spring when mounting the lathe to the vehicle. With the lathe off the vehicle, lower the vehicle until the lathe can mate to the adapter without lifting. Lifting the trolley wheels from the ground may reduce the trolley s ability to react to torque from the lathe. This may cause a condition where the lathe and trolley rotate quickly and violently when the lathe is switched on. Always keep your body and limbs clear of the wheelwell and lathe body when switching the lathe on. This practice will reduce the risks that the lathe will injure you if the lathe or trolley is not properly secured, or if the vehicle s transmission locks suddenly. Always secure the trolley locking lever before turning on the lathe. Failure to tighten this lever can allow the lathe to rotate violently when it is switched on, causing harm to the operator, equipment or those nearby. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 15

Be aware of opposite side rotation. If the transmission of the vehicle allows it, other wheel hubs may rotate when the lathe is engaged. Always place the vehicle in neutral and disable any center clutches on four-wheel-drive vehicles. Be certain to prevent access or mark the possible hazard presented by these other wheels any time the lathe is attached to the vehicle. Use good lighting. This lathe should be used only with adequate lighting. It should be non-blinding, not stroboscopic and not over 200 lux. Use additional task lighting if the ambient light is insufficient. Use a clean workspace. A clean, orderly work space reduces hazards. Keep the chip tray emptied and the lathe clean using a stiff brush. Do use only original replacement components purchase from an authorized Pro-Cut dealer. Third party products have not been evaluated by Pro-Cut International for quality nor safety and could potentially create unforeseen hazards. PG / 16 800.543.6618

SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS REGARDING THE USE OF YOUR LATHE. (continued) Modification of this lathe is not allowed. Modifying the lathe or using it an a manner other than for cutting brake discs on passenger cars and light to medium duty trucks may present other, unknown risks. Pro-Cut and its affiliates cannot be liable for unintended use of this machine. Do not use if unsure of anything does not appear or sound correct or if you are unsure if you are qualified to operate this lathe safely. WWW.PROCUTUSA.COM PG / 17
