Before this my work history was working at Community Mental Health Facilities in case management and coordinating a day program for those with mental illness. I graduated from the University of North Alabama with my Bachelor s of Science, majoring in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Psychology. My Masters is in Criminal Justice. I have 3 grown children that suffer from mental illness. My son has struggled with ADHD since Kindergarten. The medication helps with the attention but not with the social ineptness that often comes with ADHD. My oldest daughter has Borderline Personality Disorder and struggles greatly with personal relationships. I struggle with the appropriate boundaries; to help or not to help. My younger daughter has been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and is non-symptomatic currently. I also am diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, severe, recurrent. I ve seen the deepest, most excruciatingly painful hole that exists in the universe and got out a step at a time, mostly due to the 5 different medications I m on now. I have faced stigma from General Practioners that told me I just needed some goals, to a college professor that counseled me to not request reasonable accommodations because of the label that would be attached to me. I stave off my depression, mostly, by taking my medication and fight stigma by beginning with my own voice. Board of Directors Update 8/25/2017 Page 5
