Page 5 OPTIONAL EXERCISE For Reflection: o o o o o In what ways do I keep my ideal, successful business and my business goals held out in front of me, at a distance, as in Someday I ll? Page 6 Clarify Your Vision Exercise The quote attributed to Lewis Carroll is all too true: If you don t know where you are going, any road will get you there. It s easy to just keep speeding along in your life and your business without solid direction or goals unless you stop to clarify exactly where you intend to go with all your hard work. So let s do a little dreaming. No. Let s dream BIG! Imagine your ideal business two to three years from now. And imagine your ideal life as a whole. Feel the satisfaction and accomplishment. Then write out answers to the questions below. Let s figure out just where it is YOU want to go and what that will look like. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Take a few minutes to reflect on each aspect of your life that has relevance and importance for you. Use the examples here or provide your own. Relationships Health and Well being Spirituality Business Money and Finances Physical Environment Leisure and Relaxation Personal & Intellectual Growth Professional Growth & Continuing Education Community Engagement & Social Life 2. Then imagine your ideal situation for each area above. Write a paragraph or two describing YOUR ideal for that area of your life. 3. Now, using what you wrote for each area above (or the areas you chose to use), draft a VISION STATEMENT for yourself. Pull together the elements you described and write out your vision for your ideal business and your ideal life. Make it vivid; really focus in on pertinent details that speak to you about each area of importance.
Page 7 Core Values Clarification Definition of CORE VALUES: Principles, beliefs, traits, or qualities that guide your conduct and your relationships. They represent your highest priorities and who you are at your core or deepest level. Also referred to as guiding principles. Identifying and clarifying your core values is an important component of having an aligned business vision. We all have and live by personal core values, whether or not we re aware of it. We communicate our values to the world every day through our speech and our actions. Clearly defining your values serves as a compass point for developing your business and your vision for your overall best life. If you feel off track in life or business, you can easily see where you haven t been honoring (and living by) one or more of your values if they are clearly identified. Equally important, you will notice that your business and your personal life thrive when you honor your values. When you re in alignment, you feel fulfilled and your business can flourish. I want to clarify that this Core Values exercise is meant to identify the values you hold dear. That means they are values that you already stand for. These are not values that you wish you held or that you think you should hold. You re identifying the values that give YOUR life and work meaning. Ready? Let s get started! Step 1: Read through the list of values below, placing a check mark next to those that speak loudest to you. Take your time. Don t worry about how may (or how few) you choose.

Page 9 Step 2: Review the values that you marked on the previous page and choose your top ten (or fewer). List them here: Step 3: Whittle down the list above until you have refined your core values to a maximum of five, and preferably your top three. I know it may seem difficult to do. Allow yourself to reflect on the meaning of the words you chose for the list above and then see how you feel when you read or say each value. How can you boil down your list of values to represent your essence, your heart, and your truest convictions? When you re ready, list your top 3-5 here: Excellent work! You ve identified your core values. You can continue to use your values list as a compass when making decisions in your personal life and your business. That s how you stay in alignment.
