Improve deepwater precommissioning economics Weatherford s deepwater precommissioning service requires fewer resources, poses less risk and takes less time. No more coiled tubing or flexible hose. No more expensive weather delays. In deep water, conventional precommissioning can demand enormous equipment-spread deployment a vessel with suitable deck space to accommodate a large-surface precommissioning spread, including downlines, correspondingly large crews, and all the risk and hassle that can come with a coiled-tubing or flexible-hose downline. Now there is an alternative. Weatherford s patented Denizen subsea pipeline precomissioning system enables you to downsize your investment and make the most of your budget while enhancing safety. The Denizen system can mechanically displace or introduce pipeline fluids using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Denizen pumping and testing skid deployed via ROV 2 2008-2012 Weatherford. Deepwater Precommissioning Services Flooding skid The flooding skid can flood, clean, gauge and chemically treat deepwater pipelines at a controlled rate without the use of a downline. The ambient hydrostatic pressure propels a pig train through 95-99 percent of the pipeline. All fill water is chemically treated and filtered by the flooding skid. The pressure of the compressed air in front of the pig then equalizes with the hydrostatic head of the seawater, halting the pig in the pipeline. The ROV with pumping and testing skid then docks with the flooding skid, and the onboard hydraulically driven centrifugal pump is actuated by the ROV s hydraulic supply, pushing the pig the remaining 1 to 5 percent of the line to the receiver. Critical information is recorded during flooding operations, including: Water-flow rate Chemical ppm Water volume Chemical volume Differential pressure across filters Injection pressure Pumping and testing skid Following flooding operations, the Denizen pumping and testing skid introduces fluids into the pipeline to perform hydrostatic testing of infield flowlines and export pipelines in up to 10,000 ft (3,000 m) of water. The ROV is then deployed from the vessel to the test location. The pumping and testing skid is connected to the pipeline end termination with a high-pressure hose, complete with projectspecific hot stab. The hydraulically driven high-pressure pump on the pumping and testing skid is then actuated by the ROV s hydraulic supply to introduce chemically treated (if needed) and filtered seawater (50 µm) into the pipeline to raise it to the required test pressure which can be up to 20,000 psi (1,380 bar). The hydrotest loggers transmit critical parameters such as pressure, temperature and flow in real time, via the system s display also recorded on solid-state memory. A custom setup will enable the ROV s umbilical to transmit this data. The flooding, filtration and chemical-treatment skid is deployed independently of the ROV and pumping skid for subsea wet mating. 2008-2012 Weatherford. All rights reserved. 3

Minimize crew and vessel requirements for maximum economic impact Economic impact analysis topside versus subsea comparison Using the Denizen system reduces deck size needed for typical topside pumping and downline equipment, saving time and cost. Many other factors result in significant operational efficiency, including the following: The system is less sensitive to bad weather than a downline and is either fully remote from the vessel or flexibly connected via the ROV tether management system. After free flood, the vessel can leave the Denizen system to complete approximately 99 percent of line fill, unassisted. The system can be wet-stored during free flood, saving a recovery and re-deployment operation should the vessel/rov be required to perform other duties. A remote data logger can log salient pipeline parameters during the hydrotest hold period while the system/rov performs other tasks. Pig speeds of 3.3 to 4.9 ft/sec (1 to 1.5 m/sec) are attainable in deep water since the system is not restricted by high-pressure losses from downline friction. Weatherford s innovative approach to deepwater precommissioning services slashes vessel and crew expenditures and lowers overall precommissioning cost. Inherent safety issues, mobilization and operational complexities associated with coiled-tubing or flexible downline operations are mitigated along with the high-pressure liquid/human interface. Minimizing weather-related risk Large boats and equipment are costly when weather disrupts a conventional precommissioning operation. Our Denizen system uses a light, mobile boat with crew; whether you are offshore in West Africa, Brazil or the Gulf of Mexico, inclement weather will not sink your budget. The system can be recovered to the surface quickly, while the pressure and temperature in the pipeline can be continually monitored for up to 30 days using our remote data-logging unit. When weather conditions improve, operations can quickly resume. Once the ROV is back on station, all recorded operational data can be retrieved and analyzed. 4 2008-2012 Weatherford. Deepwater Precommissioning Services Remote connection capability to overcome vessel limitations Remote subsea hydraulic connection The system can be readily configured for a remote subsea hydraulic connection when connecting the pumping and testing skid to the underside of the ROV is hindered due to height or weight restrictions. Combines flooding and pumping skids into one unit, allowing hydraulic hot stab to provide power to the system s pumps. The flooding and pumping/testing skids are deployed deployed independently or via ROV. Environmentally responsible chemical recovery and sampling Jumper flushing and containment Denizen technology is capable of subsea jumper flushing with hydrate inhibition fluid (monoethylene glycol/methanol/super Dry 2000). While simultaneously flushing from one end of the jumper, discharge is collected at the other end using our subsea collection system. During installation and precommissioning of infield pipeline jumpers, it is advantageous to flush jumpers before final connection. A hydroscopic chemical flushes out any sea water that enters the jumper during deployment. Any discharged chemicals, original jumper fluid content, or overpumped hydrate-inhibition fluid can be captured and contained in a unique chemical containment skid, enabling the precommissioning chemicals to be recovered at the surface and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. Displaces liquids from jumpers. Collects and stores displaced chemicals, original jumper fluids and overpumping of hydrate-inhibition fluid in a unique chemical containment skid. Benefits Simultaneously pumps fluids and collects discharges subsea, eliminating the need for expensive dual downlines and topside pumping equipment. Chemical sampling The system can be configured so the hydrotest pump draws fluid from a pipeline rather than adding fluid. This functionality proves useful when testing for leaks, reducing pressure for hydrate remediation, or when a sample of a subsea pipeline s contents is required. Draws fluids from the pipeline. Collects and stores fluid samples. Benefits Pipeline content samples can be taken without deploying a downline. Pressure inside the pipeline can be decreased to check for leaks and to assist in hydrate remediation. Chemical samples can be analyzed to validate chemical efficiency (Denizen system does not prove chemical efficiency). 2008-2012 Weatherford. All rights reserved. 5

Fit-for-purpose, high-quality remote logging Remote logging Denizen remote hydrotest loggers provide a record of all salient parameters during the hydrotest of a subsea pipeline. There are two versions of the Denizen logger system a skid-mounted logger and a stab-mounted logger both of which can be configured to suit project-specific requirements. Wireless subsea communication via acoustic link enables the hydrotest logger to communicate remotely with a suitably equipped ROV. Using the ROV s umbilical communication system, a link is created between the hydrotest logger and the surface-based vessel operator, facilitating topside monitoring of realtime data with the logger on the seabed. Acoustic modems enable wireless data transfer across reasonable distances of open water, allowing the ROV to perform tasks such as pressurizing adjacent pipeline while still maintaining contact with the logger and surface vessel. 700 Hydrotest Logged Data Pressure (bar) Sensor Temp. (ºC) 25 Enables hydrotest data to be logged and acoustically transmitted in both logger versions, freeing up the ROV. Records pressure, temperature, time and date. Enables pipeline hydrotest pressures up to 20,000 psi (1,380 bar). Rated to depths of 10,000 ft (3,000 m). Benefits Pressure, temperature and time can be monitored remotely, freeing the ROV for other tasks. Run time lasts up to 30 days. For longer test periods, logger batteries can be recharged by the ROV via the wet-mate electrical connector. 600 20 500 Pressure (bar) 400 300 15 10 Temperature (ºC) Denizen remote hydrotest logger 200 5 100 0 0 11/6/08 4:10 11/6/08 5:58 11/6/08 7:47 11/6/08 9:35 11/6/08 11:24 11/6/08 13:13 11/6/08 15:02 11/6/08 16:51 11/6/08 18:41 11/6/08 20:29 11/6/08 22:18 11/7/08 4:10 11/7/08 1:57 11/7/08 3:45 11/7/08 5:35 11/7/08 7:25 11/7/08 9:14 11/7/08 11:03 11/7/08 12:52 11/7/08 14:41 11/7/08 16:30 11/7/08 18:29 11/7/08 20:08 11/7/08 21:57 11/7/08 23:46 11/7/08 1:35 11/7/08 3:24 11/7/08 5:12 11/7/08 7:00 11/7/08 8:49 11/7/08 10:39 Time/Date Hydrotest data collected from the data logger showing pressure, temperature and time/date. 6 2008-2012 Weatherford. Deepwater Precommissioning Services Efficient dewatering from deep to shallow water Why the Denizen system? Dewatering control skid (DCS) The DCS is a subsea skid that acts as a variable restriction at the discharge end from the pipelines being dewatered. The progress of the pig train is monitored by an attendant ROV via the lightemitting diode (LED) display on the PCM. The DCS is connected to the pipeline receiver by crossover hoses and 3-in. stabs. Ensures maximum allowable pig speed is enforced while maintaining sufficient backpressure in the pipeline through use of ROV operable valves. Records and displays water-flow rate, system pressure, cumulative volume and 30-day run time. Rated to depths of 10,000 ft (3,000 m). Flow rate can increase up to 15,538 ft 3 /hr (440 m 3 /hr). Equipped with variable-restriction-discharge pipe work. Benefits Efficiently dewaters from deep to shallow water, controlling pig speed to avoid pig train acceleration. Maintains backpressure in the line when using production gas while dewatering to ensure gas pressure remains above the cricodenbar pressure so that condensates do not form. Whether you need standard subsea precommissioning or our next-generation deepwater precommissioning service, count on the world s largest provider of pipeline and related specialty services for superior performance.
