Any slight imperfections can be lightly sanded. Wipe with a damp cloth. Painting Instructions: SANTA S COAT and HAT Basecoat the coat and hat solidly in Wasabi Green this will take 2 coats. (This does NOT include the center area (his robe), we will paint that in a following step, this is for the outer coat (and hat) only. Once your basecoat has dried, drybrush these same areas with Eggshell. Basecoat the trim area down the front sides of his coat, on his sleeves and his hat (including the hat s ball) with Egg- 1
shell. Drybrush those areas with Bleached Sand. Thin a bit of Plantation Pine (to an ink consistency) and shade this along the outside edges of the coat s trim. I also used this to shade around his hat (in the creases) and also in the creases of his coat (around the arms and the outside edge of the trim on the sleeves as well). We will complete the hand painted details on the coat in a later step. The holly leaves on his hat are painted solidly with Hauser Dark Green. They are then drybrushed with Kelly Green and lightly highlighted with Wasabi Green. The pine needles are painted solidly with Plantation Pine and drybrushed with Hauser Medium Green and then again with Wasabi Green as a highlight. The pine cone is based solidly with Espresso and drybrushed with Honey Brown. ROBE The center area in the front (his robe) is basecoated with an equal mix of Bleached Sand and Warm White. Once that has dried, drybrush this area with Warm White (only) and then again with Snow White to highlight. Shade with a bit of thinned Tomato Red down the inside edges of the robe, under his beard and lightly across the bottom. All of the lettering and scrolls were done with the thinned Tomato Red paint. If you aren t comfortable painting this on, you could always use an ultra fine red marker, such as a Sharpie to write the words instead. SANTA S FACE and BEARD Basecoat Santa s face with Warm Beige (formerly Fleshtone). I applied two coats for a solid coverage. Once dry, drybrush the face with Natural Buff to highlight. With a very dry, drybrush, use Tomato Red to drybrush the cheeks and the end tip of his nose. You can add Natural Buff to the same brush to tone this down. You can control the amount of red on these areas by applying as just a little or adding more Natural Buff to your brush and going over these areas. The eyes are based in Snow White. Let dry. The irises are painted with Hauser Medium Green and the pupils are Black. I finely outlined around the eye a bit with Black. Also add a tiny Snow White dot in each eye as a highlight, you can also add a fine line of Snow White as an accent, if you wish. 2
Basecoat the beard, mustache, and eyebrows in Dove Grey. Make sure you get into all of the creases. Once this has dried, thin some Neutral Grey (to ink consistency) and wash this over the Dove Grey areas. Let dry. Drybrush these same areas with Dove Grey first, then again with Bleached Sand and lastly with Warm White to highlight. Paint the inside of his mouth with Black. His lip is painted with a mix of Fleshtone and a bit of Tomato Red. MITTENS Basecoat each mitten solidly in Hauser Dark Green (this may take two coats). Let dry. Drybrush each mitten lightly with Kelly Green and then highlight with Wasabi Green. WALKING STICK Basecoat stick solidly with Espresso. Let dry. Drybrush by pouncing with an equal mixture of Espresso and Natural Buff. If this appears too bold, simply tone it down a bit by pouncing over it again with mainly Espresso. LANTERN Basecoat all of the window panes in solid Marigold. Let dry. Now mix a bit of Warm White and Marigold and pounce this mix in the center of the X on each side. Mix a bit of Tomato Red with Marigold and shade this mix around the outside edge of each window pane. Once this has dried, you can paint the remainder of the Lantern in solid Black. The bow is basecoated solidly with Rookwood Red. Drybrush this with Tomato Red to highlight. The bunch of pine needles are painted solidly with Plantation Pine and drybrushed with Hauser Medium Green and then again with Wasabi Green as a highlight. The two pine cones are based solidly in Espresso and then drybrushed with Honey Brown. 3 DETAILS PAINTED ON COAT To start, thin some Plantation Pine to an heavier ink consistency. With your liner brush, create the limbs where your pine needles will be. Let these dry. With the Identi Pen, line over the branches with a fine Black line. Also create your first layer of needles with the Black pen. Once finished with this part, go back to your thinned Plantation Pine and create your second layer of needles. Let this dry. Basecoat all of the pine cones by
dabbing on Espresso quite heavily. This will give them a touch of texture as well. Let dry completely. Then add sections to the pine cones with solid Honey Brown and let this dry as well. Using your Black Identi Pen, outline the pine cones and outline a bit around the sections to help give your pine cones some extra definition. To finish our hand painted design, I used the end of my stylus to create random Hauser Dark Green dots throughout the coat. Finishing: Finish with several light coats of Americana Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher Matte. I certainly hope this Santa brings you much Joy and Peace over the Holiday Season! Thank You! 4
