Supplies Needed Main fabric (front, back, and side panels) 1yd Contrasting fabric and lining 2 yds 20in Coats heavyweight metal zipper 2/3 of a yard of VELCRO FABRIC FUSION brand fastener Dual duty xp thread Sulky Rayon embroidery thread Sulky Totally Stable, Iron on tear away Stabilizer 1 yd stiff double sided fusible interfacing 1/3 yd of medium weight craft type fusible interfacing 1 sheet needlepoint canvas Transparent tape 2 1/3yds of webbing Strap turner Medium size Safety pin 10 inches of ribbon The kit CUTTING Note: Enlarge pattern pieces from the gridded pattern, then follow cutting directions Pattern pieces for side panels and front and back panels: cut 2 each from main fabric and 2 each from lining fabric Large inside and outside pockets: cut 2 on fold from main fabric Top panel (with zipper): cut 19in x 6in rectangle, 2 from contrast fabric Bottom panel: cut 17in x 7 in rectangle 4 of contrast fabric Strap: cut 2 strips 3 ¼ in x 42 in from contrast fabric Cell phone pocket cut 2, 4in x 5in rectangles from main fabric Basic pocket: cut 2, 13in x 6 in rectangles from contrast fabric

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Apply following manufacturers instructions, stiff interfacing to front and back panels and bottom, and apply medium weight interfacing to the side panels 2. Baste or fuse lining pieces to front, back, side and bottom panels, wrong-sides together 3. Fold strap pieces lengthwise right sides together and stitch a ½ in seam on long side. Trim seam allowance to reduce bulk. Turn straps right side out and feed webbing through straps using a safety pin. Press straps. 4. Using the markings on the front and back panels of the bag attach one strap to each of the outside panels. 5. Fold piece for the inside and outside pockets in half on fold line, topstitch ¼ in from folded edge. Baste outside pocket to outside of front panel, matching bottom and side raw edges, stitch ¼ in seam. Baste inside pocket to inside edges of back panel, stitch ¼ in seam. 6. Attach 2 rows of VELCRO fastener to front lining piece, where you want your pockets. 7. With right sides together attach the bottom panel to the front and back panels matching lower edges, stitch ½ inch seam. 8. Machine embroidery: Using the top panel, cut a piece of stabilizer slightly larger than your embroidery hoop. Press this on to the wrong side of your top panel in the area you desire to place your embroidery. Fold this piece in half lengthwise and press to create a crease directly down the center. 9. Place your stabilized fabric in the embroidery hoop and setup the machine for embroidery. (Remember that you will have a zipper down the lengthwise center of this piece, so make sure your embroidery is positioned at least an inch from the center crease so that it will not be covered by the exposed zipper). Once this piece is embroidered, tear away the stabilizer and apply the interfacing. 10. Fold this piece in half lengthwise again and press to emphasize crease. Place the zipper teeth over this line making sure the zipper head will not be caught in the ½ in seam allowance and tape the zipper down. 11. Your zipper it will be longer than your panel so you must shorten the zipper. Stitch back and forth across the zipper teeth where you need it to end (make sure this is within your seam allowance) and then trim off the excess zipper portion. 12. Use your zipper foot and stitch close to the edge of the zipper tape on either side of the zipper. Place a second row of stitching 1/8 inch in from the first row on both sides of the zipper.

INSTRUCTIONS (cont) 13. Turn the top panel over and cut along the crease (through center of zipper) and press the edges away from the teeth. Topstitch this down along the seam you first used to attach the zipper 14. Fold the lining piece for the top in half and press. Cut down this new crease. Press under ¼ in along this edge for each piece. 15. Wrong sides together match the folded edge on the lining to the topstitching along zipper tape. Stitch close to the edge to hold in place. Baste the outer edges of the lining piece to the outside edges wrong sides together using a ¼ inch seam. 16. Attach the side panels to the top panel matching ends, right sides together, stitch a ½ in seam. 17. Stay stitch the long edges of the top panel 3/8 in from the edge. Clip to, but not through, this stitching about every ½ inch 18. Attach the top zippered panel to the front and back panels right sides together matching raw edges. Pin matching the center top, then match the top edge of the side panel to the top of the pocket (this will leave you with the seam allowance needed to attach this piece to the bottom). Open the zipper before doing the opposite side so that you will be able to turn it later. Stitch ½ inch seam from one side to the other, you will have ½ in overhang on either side panel for bottom seam. 19. Stitch the final seam for the bottom of the bag matching side panel to bottom with ½ in seam and clip corners. Turn right-side out. 20. For bottom stiffening panel: Using remaining 2 bottom panels, stitch right sides together with ½ in seam leaving one of the ends open, turn right side out 21. Insert needle point canvas cut to this shape into pouch. Tuck in raw edges and topstitch this piece can be placed in the bottom for extra support

Basic pocket 1. Stitch right sides together with ½ in seam leaving one long side open. Turn right side out and press. 2. Press in ½ in around the opening. Topstitch ¼ in around top edge. 3. Attach strip of VELCRO fastener parallel to top edge of pocket opening. Cell phone pocket 1. Attach interfacing to one piece of the pocket. 2. Iron ½ in down on top edge of each pocket piece. Topstitch ¼ in. 3. Right sides together, stitch together pieces of pocket using a 1/2 in seam. 4. Attach piece of ribbon folded in half to seam allowance on one side of pocket opening. Fold piece of ribbon in half. Sew to seam allowance on one side of pocket opening by stitching over topstitching. Stitch only in the seam allowance and make sure not to stitch into the pocket opening. 5. Clip corners of seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. Attach piece of VELCRO fastener parallel to top edge of pocket opening. With the front of the dress facing you, slide the scarf through the front casing left to right. Now, slide the scarf through the back casing right to left. Both ends of the scarf will hang out on the left side of the dress. Tie ends together and you re ready to go!
