Guest Instructions Playing one of our scavenger hunt mysteries requires no special acting abilities, just a willingness to have fun. Our site gives you all the details you need to prepare for the party including character descriptions of all guests, internal information about your character (do not reveal this to others), and costume/prop recommendations. During the party, each of you will be given clues. The clues provide all the information required to unlock the mystery. Each clue is designated as a clue to be concealed or a clue to be revealed. Conceal clues are generally information about your character that you try to hide (without lying) from the others. Reveal clues are ones that you should share with others in casual conversation. During the party, guests will mingle around asking questions about each other's character and about clues you have received. As the game progresses, you will gather more and more information and at the end of the allotted time you will need to sift through fact and fiction to decide who is the culprit. The characters can be played to suit the comfort zone of each player. If you like the spotlight or enjoy role playing, immerse yourself in your character s persona and live the night as you think they would. You may even decide to exaggerate your character s personality for even more effect. On the other hand, if you prefer to participate in a less theatrical capacity, you may want to sit on the couch and let people come to you, approach each character off to the side or just listen in on other conversations until you get your feet wet and are feeling a bit more comfortable. There are only a few simple rules to follow when playing our games. 1. Stay in Character. (Costumes are highly recommended) 2. Hide/Stretch the truth, but don't lie! 3. Interrogate others. Each game takes approximately 1-1/2 to 3 hrs, depending on the number of people playing. Host-Party.com Office Murder Mystery Games Page 3 of 10

Round 2 - Let the Mystery Begin! Round Instructions 1. Host rings the doorbell (as if the mailman has just hand delivered a package to the door,) or otherwise signals the beginning of the game, and instructs everyone to sit down in a circle. The host will have a letter in her hand (see Round 0: Pre- game preparation.) She will announce that the family has received a letter from Great Uncle Schlomo. She can explain that he is a distant relative that is an archaeologist, and the family doesn t hear from him often. Or, before the party, she can prompt another grown-up in the room to say it in response to her announcement that she has a letter. ( Uncle Schlomo? Isn t that your great uncle who s an archaeologist? ) 2. The host reads the letter aloud. She can pass the letter and the copy of the scroll around the circle, and ask what everybody thinks about it. 3. The host can suggest that they find the family s menorah and light it, to see if Great Uncle Schlomo s (or, GUS s) theory is correct. Or, before the party, she can prompt another grown-up in the room to suggest that they get the menorah and light it. 4. Somebody should be designated to go and get the menorah (other than the host.) The runner should quickly return with the news that it s been stolen! In the place of the menorah, there was a stack of lettersone for each guest (see Round 0: Pre-game preparation.) 5. The host should then pass out the clues and ask the guests to find their teams, if the guests are playing on teams. The guests can take a moment to read their clue. 6. The host can then read the General Clue (for Round Two) to begin the discussion. 7. Remind the guests to write down any information that seems pertinent to the case on their Whodunit Grid. 8. Hint: If you determine that it may clarify the game for the players, prepare a poster that resembles the Whodunit Grid, and write the information on the poster as the information is being revealed in the game. This way, the guests will know what to write and not miss any important information. General Clue (Share with all Guests) The group of thieves that took the menorah is still in this room! It s up to you to determine who the culprits are, and why they took it, before the end of the party. Good luck! Once you are sitting with your team, go around the room and share each character/team's description with the rest of the guests. Host-Party.com Office Murder Mystery Games Page 4 of 10

Character Information The information below will provide you with the basic information for each character. If you have assigned guests to the characters, these pages will include the guest name and login information. THESE PAGES MAY INCLUDE DETAILS RELATED TO SOLVING THE MYSTERY! You may want to avoid these pages if you intend to try to solve the mystery. This sample kit will only show the first two characters. Local Scout Troop (selling latkes for their fundraiser) Description: This spunky group of kids just happened to be out delivering fundraising orders to their customers. Their enthusiastic selling efforts landed them the coveted Super Seller patch. They re very proud of that. Motive: What they really want is to earn the Survival Skills patch. They can read a compass and identify edible plants in the forest. But none of them can figure out how to light a fire without a match. If they had the menorah that stayed lit without technically striking a match, it would technically count for the patch because technically, it isn t cheating.
