Can we wear different colored cloths without changing? HOW DO WE SEE COLOR?

Write down what you see

Colour blind people cannot see red because red cones on the retina are. damaged The dress what is its color?

Why is grass green? What happens when we see grass in white light? The grass absorbs the Red and Blue light Your eyes only receive reflected Green light.

Why is an apple red? What happens when we see an apple in white light? The apple absorbs the green and Blue light Your eyes only receive reflected red light.

Why is are daphadiles yellow? What happens when we see an apple in white light? The flower absorbs the Blue light Your eyes only receive reflected red and green light.

Why is grass green? What happens when we see grass in blue light? The green grass absorbs the blue light. Nothing is reflected. The grass appears black

Why is your paper white? White paper reflects all colours of light. white light white light

In white light a red object will reflect red light. a blue object will reflect blue light. a green object will reflect green light. a white object will reflect white light.

In red light a red object will reflect the red light. a blue object will absorb the red light. a green object will absorb the red light. a white object will reflect the red light.

Coloured light activity

Filters let certain colours of light pass through, but absorb all other colours.? filter Object

Filters Filters are used to make coloured light from white light. How do they work? White light is made up of 3 primary colours Red Filter Red light The green and blue light is absorbed. The red light is transmitted.

Try These what colour will the transmitted light be?

Try These what colour will the transmitted light be? Red Green What colour will these filters absorb? Blue

In different colours of light this kit would look different: Red light Shirt looks red Shorts look black Blue light Shirt looks black Shorts look blue

Some further examples: Object Red socks Blue teddy Green camel Magenta book Colour of light Red Blue Green Red Blue Green Red Blue Green Red Blue Green Colour object seems to be Red Black Black Black

Using filters Filters can be used to block out different colours of light: Red Filter Magenta Filter

Investigating filters Colour of filter Red Colours that could be seen Green Blue Cyan Magenta Yellow

Spot the mistakes!

Key words Absorption when light is taken in by a material Filter lets only certain colors through and absorbs the rest Transmit to send along or pass through Primary colors three main colors making white light, red, green and blue Secondary color the colors made when two primary colors mix

Plenary: 1) For the following objects, say which colours are reflected: Red car Green grass Yellow book 2) What colours of light would a blackboard/whiteboard absorb? 3) How is a rainbow formed?
