Acoustic Unit made in Germany

More Mobility for the Blind Mobility for blind persons st Intelligent mobile societies in the 21 century include all people. The needs of elderly and handicapped persons find increasing consideration in street traffic. Safe guidance when crossing streets is an absolute necessity. Thanks to technical solutions at traffic lights, blind and visually impaired can also participate safely in social life. RTB's new acoustic unit BLX takes two additional aspects into consideration. It has become clear in the recent past that both are very important. Best noise protection for residents in the vicinity of the traffic lights One who lives in the vicinity of a traffic light has a right to as little unnecessary noise as possible. Through optimal alignment, RTB's acoustic units offer noise protection for residents in a quality which had not been achieved previously. Furthermore, the devices can be regulated depen-ding on ambient noise volume. Very easy installation RTB Acoustic Unit Traffic light manufacturers and municipalities desire the simplest and quickest possible installation of auxiliary devices at traffic lights. A particularly low-priced variant which can be connected to the traffic light pole via a plug connection was developed in close co-operation with practitioners.

Technology & Application Norms and guidelines Technical specifications Compliance with relevant norms and guidelines is documented by test reports and certificates from accredited testing agencies, among others the Technical Inspection Association Rhineland, which are formulated on the basis of prototype tests. The product norms define the demands on functional and electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and sonic characteristics. Among others, the following product norms have already taken effect; additional specifications can be released at any time. DIN VDE 0832-100, respectively Hd638 S1 DIN VDE 0832-200, respectively EN50293:2000 DIN 32981, respectively ISO 23600:2007 ÖNORM V 2100 and V 2101 CEI 214-7 Norm DIN 32981 requires an individual test for all the operational values of the acoustic unit which are relevant to safety. Unacceptable deviations cause a block that can only be reset manually. Thus malfunctions and dangers associated with them are excluded. Signal Tones Pilot tone: 1,2Hz ± 0,2Hz pulse sound with a range of approx. 4.5 m around the pole Walk tone: Signal mixture of harmonic frequencies with the dominant basic frequency of 880Hz ± 50Hz Warning signal/gong: 392Hz warning signal in accordance with DIN 32974 and many more. M O B I L I T Y T E C H N O L O G Y & A P P L I C A T I O N V A R I A N T S E X T E N S I O N S Internationally and individually applicable At present RTB acoustic units are operating worldwide. Of course, they must be configured to meet national requirements, particularly in regard to local standards for signal tones or national voltage. The automatic adjustment of volume based on the ambient noise level is important everywhere. This also applies to the flexibility of the signal alignment in accordance with street width and building density. Following the successful installation, the remote control offers flexible configuration options (also in English) for the individual adjustment of the signals at the crosswalk. Various special wishes can be achieved via optocoupling input and optocoupling output. This also includes a shut-off at certain times of day or a reduction of volume at night. 04 05

Variants Wide variety of device models GS WS (Walk signal) and extra GS (Guide signal) can be activated Step by step, RTB has expanded and refined the capacity of its products and its product spectrum. With the fourth generation of the acoustic unit, municipalities have access to a variety of possible solutions, which, due to a modular construction technique, can always be combined in new ways and adjusted to individual situations. Standalone devices Standalone devices have their own electronic components and a separate loudspeaker. Standalone devices for the walk tone and the pilot tone are also available. WS and GS from one loudspeaker Kombi devices Kombi devices are convincing due to the costeffective combination of walk tone and pilot tone. With these devices the values for the walk tone and the pilot tone are also freely adjustable. RTB Acoustic Unit

M O B I L I T Y T E C H N O L O G Y & A P P L I C A T I O N V A R I A N T S E X T E N S I O N S Standalone device BLX FTM The acoustic unit BLX FTM is a standalone device which produces and transmits walk tones. This tone is defined by the relevant norm of the country or the wish of the customer. It sounds during the pedestrian walk phase and can be heard from the curb until the middle of the crosswalk. The volume is dependent on crosswalk length and building density. Standalone device BLX PT Kombi IV The acoustic unit BLX PT is a standalone device which produces and transmits pilot tones (orientation signals), which indicate the position of the traffic light facility to blind and low vision persons. The tone is emitted around the pole and indicates its position to the visually impaired user. This pilot tone also adjusts its volume to the ambient noise level; its values are freely adjustable. This Kombi device consists of two loudspeakers, one which emits the walk tone and one which emits the pilot tone. The greatest advantage: the device needs only one electronic component. BLX Kombi-S The Kombi S device contains an electronic component and a loudspeaker, which transmits both signals at the crosswalk. Additionally, the pilot tone is reflected behind the pole via a sound reflector. Kombi-200 The Kombi-200 contains the entire electronic unit (including loudspeaker) in a free optical signal housing. This solution is appropriate for traffic light facilities which offer little space for an acoustic unit. Furthermore, in the 200 series there are standalone devices to transmit the walk tone (FTM 200) or the pilot tone (PT 200). BLX Gong The BLX Gong is an acoustical warning signal to indicate dangerous situations. It complies with the requirements of DIN 32974 (acoustical signals in public space). 06 07

Extensions, Combinations net.1: economical retro-fitting net.1 central module Until now several cable wires were needed to install the wide variety of signals (among others walk tone, pilot tone and tactile signal) in the acoustic units at traffic light facilities. This expenditure for existing facilities was often not economical. This problem has now been solved by net.1, RTB's intelligent field bus. Both the power supply for the push button and the acoustic unit as well as transmission of the control signals are conducted via a separate signal transmitting cable between the external unit and the control device which can even be wired in a line topology. Thus expensive excavation work can be avoided. The effective use of the existing ground cable net is thus possible: retrofitting and modernisation of existing facilities become even more attractive. The central module is built into the signal control device. It consists of at least two single boards in European card format: The communication card represents the communication central of the net.1 bus in the external facility. Up to two interface cards each make six connecion groups for push buttons and acoustic units available. Both cards must be integrated together in available 3HE connections in the control device. F-connectors with crimping technology in accordance with DIN 41612 make maintenance-friendly contact possible and thus follow established technical standards. RTB Acoustic Unit

It consists of an add-on card, which can be ordered as an option for the signal transmitter for blind and visually impaired persons and then will be installed by the manufacturer. In the net.1 pole module there are connections for compatible push buttons which don't have to be connected to a ground cable. net.1 Central Module net.1 cable POLE GROUP 1 POLE GROUP 6 POLE MAST-GRUPPE GROUP 5 POLE GROUP 4 POLE GROUP 3 POLE GROUP 2 T(5,3) T(6,4) T(5,2) T(5,3) T(5,4) T(5,1) T(5,2) T(5,1) T(4,3) T(4,4) T(4,2) T(3,4) T(4,1) T(3,2) T(2,4) T(3,1) T(2,2) T(2,1) T(1,3) T(1,4) T(1,2) T(1,1) 08 06 09 07

Extensions, Combinations Intelligent combination By combining the acoustic unit and the push button when equipping traffic lights specifically for blind and visiually impaired persons, one achieves many advantages. Push Button Type PiT Control of the push button via the acoustic unit In the PiT push button, the control of the pilot tone takes place via the central electronic component in the acoustic unit. The user hears the pilot tone from both the push button and the acoustic unit, which makes it easier to find the traffic light pole. Push Button Type Plus In the Plus push button the vibration element is controlled via the electronic component of the acoustic unit. Through this innovation the costs for equipping a traffic light facility can be further reduced. PiT Plus RTB Acoustic Unit

M O B I L I T Y T E C H N O L O G Y & A P P L I C A T I O N V A R I A N T S E X T E N S I O N S & Accessories Easy setting via remote control With the assistance of the infrared remote control, an individual configuration of all devices is possible. The remote control regulates all device parameters such as setting the volume in regard to ambient noise, minimum and maximum volumes, drop-off rate or special solutions such as volume reduction at night. An integrated microphone, which makes the measurement of the current volume possible, makes it easier for the technician to set the parameters. The remote control is also used to configure the net.1. The software BLS.connect is a tool for configuration, documentation and analysis of RTB's acoustical signal transmitter. With this software, one can comfortably plan equipping a traffic light facility with a blindness-specific device in advance on a computer and then document the settings. The transfer of the configuration takes place via the remote control so that it is not necessary to use a laptop on site outdoors. In addition, a diagnosis tool makes it possible for RTB to offer improved and speedy service. 10 11
