FIRST FAMILIES OF ISABELLA COUNTY, MICmGAN OBJECTIVE The main objective of this organization is to identify and honor the early settlers of Isabella County, Michigan. MEMBERSIllP REQUIREMENTS Any applicant who can prqve they are a direct descendant of an individual (s) who settled in Isabella County, Michigan by December 31, 1899 may join the First Families of Isabella County, Michigan. Original applications for membership in the First Families of Isabella County, Michigan, must be accompanied by a non-refundable $10.00 fee which covers all pioneers listed in that submission. This fee covers a certificate that the applicant will receive. Each supplemental application for other ancestor(s) at a later date will have a non-refundable fee of$3.00. A certificate will be awarded for the supplemental application. Applicants who have had their descent approved will receive a membership certificate and become a member of the First Families of Isabella County. APPLICATION INSTRUCnONS Please tyre or handprint all known information within the spaces provided. We realize that you may not have all the required information to fill in every blank. However, please try to complete the blanks with as much information that is known..it is necessary to prove each step of descent by submitting copies of various supporting documents (see HELPFUL HINTS). Do not send original documents, retain them for your files and submit only copies. After completion, mail the application form, fee and five-generation chart, along with all supporting documents. Be certain to sign the application on the back page. All evidence submitted will become the nronertv of the Isabella County Genealo2ical Societv. Surname lists may be prepared for our website so that others researching the same family lines can make contact with the person submitting the application. No personal information will be printed or given to anyone without your permission. HELPFUL HINTS All proof of descent should be sufficient to clearly demonstrate that the applicant is indeed directly descended from the pioneer ancestor(s) named on page one of the application form. Acceptable forms of proof are: 1. Birth Records 8. County Histories 2. Marriage Records 9. Census Records 3. Wills & Administrations 10. Newspaper Clippings 4. Estate Records 11. Military Records 5. Guardianships 12. Tax Records 6. Land Deeds 7. Old Letters 13. Tombstone Photographs 14. Cemetery Records.

BASIC RULES OF EVIDENCE 1. Primary Evidence: Primary evidence from vital statistics (birth, death, and marriage certificates), courthouse or other government records such as military, land records, deeds, wills, land warrants, naturalization records, tax lists, guardianship, ward, trustee, church ( birth, baptism, marriage, death), funeral home and school records are considered to be excellent proof. 2. Secondary Evidence: Secondary evidence can come from census (must include photocopy of census sheet including heading and enumeration lines of the family). People who are in the same household on the census are not necessarily relatives unless expressly stated on the census-additional evidence will be required; newspaper clippings and obituaries (name of newspaper and date of publication are necessary), old letters (dated), Bible records (with title page and publication date of the Bible, or other family records created at the time of the fact reported and county histories (supported by primary evidence). 3. Circumstantial Evidence: Circumstantial evidence implied by facts or hearsay is not considered proof unless backed up by primary or secondary evidence. This includes oral or written family history with no source documentation. 4. Indexes: Indexes and books of county records compiled by a genealogical society for library use may be copied as secondary proof, listing book title, author/compiler and page.
