Creativ 5c02 Antique marble technique Antikmarmortechnik with Latex Plastic ELF 904 for expressive, divided surfaces in contiguous coloring with marble character The figure shows a variant of the creative technique and should convey an impression of the surface effect to be achieved. There is no guarantee that the exact color will be reproduced. Substrate: Super Latex ELF 3000, base color shade Scala 99.00.54 Decorating step: Latex Plastic ELF 904 mixed with Dolomit ELF 900, color shades Scala 99.00.54 and 99.00.63 Overcoat: Lacryl-PU Wood Sealer 264, colorless Date: 28.10.2013 Stone interpretation techniques Seite 1 von 7

Characteristics Exceptional texture technique with a finely nuanced color effect and a smooth surface. This technique is a reconstruction of the historical marble stucco technique using modern materials. To achieve this, plastic material is applied and tinted emulsion paint (accent colors) is worked into the wet paint film and the surface modeled. The overall surface has a harmonized effect and is visually coherent. After drying, a nuanced, dynamic, fine-relief-type surface results. Field of application For unique designs on interior walls. Suitable for visual emphasis of wall mirrors, base surfaces, decorative bands, etc. This technique can be used very effectively on individual room elements, such as pillars and columns. Application Substrate condition The substrate must be solid, dry, clean, load-bearing, pore-free and smoothly filled using, for example, Mineral Hand-Applying Filler 1886. Prime the sanded, dust-free surfaces with Lacryl Deep Penetrating Primer ELF 595. Prime coat Apply a uniformly covering coating of Super Latex ELF 3000, white, without texture using Microfiber Paint Roller 1221. Lightly sand the surfaces after drying with fine sandpaper. Surface division and joint creation (optional) Division into partial areas For a particularly convincing implementation of the creative technique, the surfaces should generally be divided into individual partial areas with appropriate sizes. Realistic surface divisions, such as in rectangular block shapes, including joints, are particularly suitable. Before applying the actual creative technique, the partial areas must be treated as described in the steps below to achieve clearly pronounced joints. Step 1 Surface division Determine the surface division (the joint pattern) and carefully draw the outlines with a lead pencil. Mask the joints in accordance with the designed surface division with Tesaflex Fine Line Tape 3008, 3 mm. Step 2 Filling Apply Latex Plastic ELF 904 white (or tinted up to max. 5% with the prime coat material) in medium layer thickness over the entire surface using Paint Roller 1492 and texture while distributing uniformly using the Foamed Texturing Roller 1104. Smooth the wet layer with the Double Blade Spatula with Soft Grip 1289 or with the ETICS Surface Filler Knife 1341. Immediately remove the tape. After the coat has dried, sand the surfaces with fine sand paper by hand or use a Festool Rotex Ro 150 E-Plus 3247 with dust extraction until the surface is smooth. Step 3 Prime coat Apply a prime coat of Super Latex ELF 3000, white or tinted, with the Microfiber Paint Roller 1221 in a uniform, thin layer with as little texture as possible. After the prime coat has dried, cover the joints again with Tesaflex Fine Line Tape 3008, 3 mm. Before starting the decorating step, we recommend covering the partial area to be treated along the precise contours using Super Painter Masking Tape gold 1795. Apply masking tape only just prior to each filling step and remove it again immediately afterwards. Stone interpretation techniques Seite 2 von 7

Decorating step The overall look can be comprised of individual partial areas (rectangular blocks) that partially differ with regard to their texture flow. If the surface is divided up as described above, the partial areas are processed individually. Rectangular blocks with the same appearance can be processed at the same time. Base mixture Use a base mixture of Latex Plastic ELF 904 and Universal Hand Applying Filler 1882 for most of the decorating steps. Mix these two materials (2 parts Latex Plastic ELF 904 and 1 part Universal Hand Applying Filler 1882) in a ratio of about 2:1. Color this mixture with Dolomit ELF 900, tinted (mixing ratio of about 2 parts base mixture to 1 part Dolomit ELF 900) depending on the decorating step. Always prepare the base mixture just before application. Full Color and Tinting Paint 951 can also be used for tinting the base mixture. Creating the veins Lay out the vein structure before the decorating step for a realistic representation of the marble effect. The base mixture in the selected color is applied to create highlighted diagonal streaks with a Pointed Brush 1380 or a pastry bag. Remove the masking tapes immediately after that. Texture coat, main color shade including the accent color shades After the veins have dried, mask the joints with Tesaflex Fine Line Tape 3008, 3 mm and apply a uniform medium coat of the colored base mixture using a flat brush. Using an Paint Brush Fine Liner, round 1239, work two intertwining accent colors (base mixture) into the wet layer. Always use the same color shades in the individual areas to be formed. Carefully remove the masking tapes immediately after the work is finished Texture sanding After drying, sand the larger textural bumps using a Cork Sanding Block 1267 or Festool Rotex RO 150 E-Plus until a uniform, relief-like surface is obtained, and remove dust from the surface (do not sand smooth). Filling intermediate coat Before applying the filling coat, mask the joints again. Use a Heating Radiator Paint Roller 1492 to apply a medium coat of Latex plastic ELF 904, tinted with, (mixing ratio max. 5:1) and distribute and smooth uniformly with a Flat Paint Brush 1209 (do not fill flush with the surface). Then remove the tapes from the joints again. Intermediate sanding After drying use a Cork Sanding Block 1267 or Festool Rotex RO 150 E-Plus to lightly sand down the remaining textural bumps until a uniform, relief-like surface is obtained, and then remove dust from the surface (do not sand smooth). Fine filling First mask the joints again. Use a Double Blade Spatula 1289 to smooth the last uneven areas flush with the surface using the patch filling method in combination with Latex Plastic ELF 904, tinted with Dolomit ELF 900 tinted, (mixing ratio max. 5:1). Then remove the tapes from the joints again. Fine sanding When dry, use a Cork Sanding Block 1267 or Festool Rotex RO 150 E-Plus 3247 for coarse presanding and then use fine sandpaper to carefully sand the surfaces manually. Overcoat First mask the joints again. Apply two uniform coats of Lacryl-PU Wood Sealer 264 without texture using a Short- Fiber Paint Roller 1217 and then immediately roll over with a Round Foam Paint Roller 1135. Before applying the second coat, sand the surfaces with fine sandpaper after they are sufficiently dry and remove the tape. Step 4 Creating joints This is only required if the surface was previously divided up to create joints. Work Universal Hand Applying Filler 1882, slightly tinted with, into the joints with a finger or cloth. Gently remove excess material immediately with a damp Viscose Sponge 1270. When dry, dampen the surface again with a Viscose Sponge 1270 and carefully remove any remaining streaks. When the surfaces are dry, clean them well and sand them again if necessary, then paint them over with Lacryl-PU Wood Sealer 264 gloss, diluted with water 2:1 Stone interpretation techniques Seite 3 von 7

Notes Masking tapes Masking tapes should only be applied immediately before each decorating step and removed again immediately after the work has finished. Perform the decorating steps properly Texture quickly and only once. Repeated texturing of the surfaces will produce visible changes in the surface finish. Take the coating thickness into account If Latex Plastic ELF 904 is applied too thickly, the surface may crack during drying. Additionally, if the relative humidity is high, the plastic texture may sag. Forming joint edges Trim the joint edges subsequently with a cup-cutting knife or a phase tester (screwdriver). Assessing the test areas The description of how this technique is performed is a triedand-tested standard method which can be modified and expanded according to the user's own creativity. The general appearance of a creative technique is determined by the color choice and combination, how the technique in question is performed and by the decorator s individual style. We recommend preparing test areas to get an impression of how the surface will look. Remark This information is the result of many years of practical experience.
